The Killing Joke clearly is one of the best Batman stories, but I wouldn't consider it a trade.

I'd like to pick up NO MAN'S LAND, but that's quite an expensive haul for all the books. I notice that Rucka did a novelization of the series. If anyone has read that, is it possible for me to get the whole story in one paperback, or is it essential to read the trades?

The novel is amazing, and I highly recomend you check it out.

Go to your public library and check out No Mans Land if you dont want to spend the money. I just got done reading it myself and it is pretty good, a enjoyable read but I wouldnt spend that much to own it.
