If you were to compare Batman: Gotham Knight to the first two DC Universe films and the other animated Batman projects that Kevin Conroy has done how good would you say it is? I'd say Gotham Knight is better than the first two DCU films. It's also better than Mystery of the Batwoman, Return of the Joker and SubZero but Gotham Knight is not better than Batman: Mask of the Phantasm in my opinion.

nice compilation of short stories. i watch it more for the aesthetics than the stories tho. the deadshot part had some beatiful scenes in it.

I liked the stories well enough (though one of them was previously done), and the various takes on the look of Batman was interesting. What killed me most was at the end, during the credits. Geesh... isn't there an American animation studio willing to tackle these projects? Just another case of outsourcing, I suppose.

I thought the idea was to make it in Japanimation. Hence, Japanese artists etc...

Working Through Pain was my favorite segment. Crossfire was great too.

I liked a few of the stories but for me some of them lost the integrity of the batman. Some of them felt too anime and not comic book.

I agree that parts of it were absolutely stunning looking, but overall I didn't care for it at all.

I'd say 50/50. I really dug certain stories and was turned off by others. Some were TOO stylized, some were TOO "typical Anime", etc etc etc.
I'd say it's decent. I prefer "Justice League : The New Frontier", "Batman Beyond : Return of the Joker", and "Batman : Mask of the Phantasm" as far as animated DC fliks go, though. Better than "Superman : Doomsday", "Batman : Curse of the Batwoman", and "batman : Subzero" IMO.
I still argue that "Justice League : The New Frontier" is the best "based-on-a-comic-book" animated film made to date. It was just amazing IMO. The book was obviously better, but, on its own merit, it was really solid.

Didn't see K.C other DTV's
About "Gotham Knight":
"Do I have a story to tell you": The story is OK, the art is great for the backgrounds, but the charters design is poor; the arms are too long and the lips are too thick, Batman looked fat.
*Story: B. Art & Designs: D. General rate: C.
The second Story: Characters designs are much better than the previous story, all the scenes showed much improvement in characters design, the cop hating Batman was good and how he changed his opinion about Batman is worth watching. The homage to artist "Jim Lee" looks great when Batman is posing on a building, it looks much better than the art of "Jim Lee". Why is "Commissioner Gordon" titled as Lietanint?
*Story: B. Art & Designs: B. General: B.
Story 3: "Bruce Wayne" looks like a mix between "Yagami Light" & "Totta Matsuda" from "Death Note" and this is great, the art of "Death Note" is the best anime art IMHO.
*Story: A. Art & Designs: A. General: A.
Story 4: Killer croc looks odd, that's all I can say about it.
*Story: A. Art & Designs: A(minus 3 points for the figure of Croc). General: A.
"Dealing With Pain": This one is my favorite, specially the hospital scene (always wanted to be an M.D), the art is great and makes it much worthy to see. Bruce looks like Kyosuke from "Rival Schools"
*Story: A. Art & Designs: A. General: A.
"Deadshot": Not such a great story, but Deadshot is a great villain and his shooting ability is great. The designs: Bruce looks like a middle aged man, Alfred looks like Watari(L's old friend from "Death Note").
*Story: B. Art & Designs: B. General: B.
The film in general: B
In all the scenes Gordon looks like "Gary Oldman" (is it because this film is continuum to "Batman Begins"?)

I was looking forward to this almost as much as dark knight, but the fact that the storys were more set peices and i didnt like the animation(i like anime just didt sit right for me mostly) the time i hung my head was the look of croc and even more so batman gliding abit well and punching a frickin bullet!!! Batman is a human not superman and this was just a huge disapointment for me.

Well in The Dark Knight Batman bent a gun barrel and that was kind of a Superman moment.

He used some kind of hydraulic device to bend the gun. It was the same thing he used to grab and cut into Scarecrow's van.
Overall I enjoyed Gotham Knight, but as a bridge between the two movies, I don't think it did the job at all. It didn't shed new light on anything from the films, or set up the Dark Knight at all. Some of the segments seem like they can't possibly fit in the continuity. Maroni should be in jailfor shooting at cops, or instance.

Strengh is nothing like punching a bullet, batmans a human that does the amazing not a superhuman that does a okay job considering powers

But they did tell you what happened to the narrows after Batman Begins and I think the reason why Batman: Gotham Knight didn't bridge the gap too well between the two movies is because they wanted you to enjoy those movies without watching Gotham Knight and vice versa.

The Narrows island and Arkham aren't referenced in TDK at all, to my recollection. So even that tidbit doesn't seem like a link. In fact, I think the idea of the whole island being turned into an asylum feels too over-the-top for these movies. Gotham never comes across a city which only a year ago had to isolate and abandon thousands of its citizens to madness.
Better examples of works that really bridge things together, but aren't required viewing or reading are the Clone Wars micro series that came out in between Episodes II and III, and the Heroes webcomics. You can follow the main events just fine without seeing them, but they do add stuff that can enhance the experience.

Well maybe they didn't have enough time to reference the narrows and Arkham island in TDK.

I was glad to watch it and view another incarnation of the Batman character. I didn't know it was supposed to be in continuity with the Nolan films.
I liked "working thru pain" a bunch, but I always love those Bruce-in-training flash backs.
Never got used to the art. Kevin Conroy's Batman on B:TAS got me so used to the square-jawed look that I couldn't handle Bruce with such a pointy chin. I had to keep asking, "wait is that Bruce? That's Bruce right? Is that really Bruce?"

I liked it but agree it didn't exactly bridge many gaps. It wasn't nearly as influential on TDK as say the Animatrix was on The Matrix films, (I think one of those shorts was the direct prequal to the 2nd film or something?)
It's kind of weird too when you see Batman jump about the place like an acrobat, stand on top of a burning car, and that cool fight with the scarecrow, then watch TDK and he's all 'slow' and whatnot

Yes, the CG one, "Final Flight of the Osiris" shows the humans discovering that the machine army is drilling toward Zion.
The "Gotham Tonight" fake news segments were more of bridging device for TDK than the cartoon was.

dissapointing. I thought it could have been sooo much better. the writing generally, the animation was in fine most cases, great in some.
I seem to remember liking the one where Bruce was getting trained by that woman. that was actually pretty damn cool I thought. the rest.....second rate. especially the one with Montoya and Allen, wtf. the Croc Scarecrow ep was a real letdown too.
still, I hope they try it again in a few years.
