I have recently picked up the HCs for Batman and Son and Black Hand and I was a little confused as to why the trades to not contain uninterrupted runs of Batman issue. Both books skip around in the numbering. I don't read the book monthly, so I am unsure if a different writer handled the missing issues. Could someone help me out with my confusion.

You're not missing much. there was a reeeeally slow John Ostrander arc called Grotesque between Batman & Son and the Joker issue, and the Ressurection of Ra's Al Ghul issues (both by Morrison still) fill the gaps in Black Glove. both are pretty average. they were annoying at the time

Out of curiousity what did you think of them, having read the story line all together the storyline in presumably less prolonged and fragmented timeframe?

I enjoyed them. As with any Morrison stuff, they are very heavy on backstory and obscure references. I couldn't imagine this stuff in singles though, with not only a month in between some issues but also interruptions with fill-in stuff. I think reading this in trade form is making for a much more cohesive reading experience for me.

The "Grotesk" arc was a fill-in while Andy Kubert worked on the final three chapters that he contributed. The Joker story was, as mentioned, an interlude and a set up for "R.I.P.".

I would suggest reading the resurrection of ra's al ghul as well...or at least the Morrison issues.

the story's not the greatest, but I still enjoyed it alot and i suggest reading it for the sake of completeness in the Morrison run since Damian is such a big part of it.

yeah that's the best thing about the Ressurection arc - Damian gets some fighting time alongside batman and especially Robin. It would actually be kinda jarring to go from Damian at the end of the Batman and Son arc, to Damien teaming up with Tim after RIP (as we're assuming will happen), without reading the Ressurction arc inbetween, which is slightly unfortuate since most of the arc's a stinker. what was that rubbish about the magic armour? and it kind of trivilialised Ra's Al Ghul, he was cooler before this happened imo.

Yeah, I believe that's available as a HC as well. Pick up all three if you want all of the Morrison material (pluse RIP, of course).

Thanks! I will go pick up that Ra's al Ghul hardcover this weekend. Do we know when R.I.P. will be finishing up?

the last issue is out next week. then we have the wrap up, two Denny O'Neil issues and two Neil Gaiman issues, that's the furthest we know so far. they are called Battle of the Cowl and Whatever Happened to the Caped Crusader.

Uh, no. The issue next week (680) is actually the penultimate issue in the storyline. The final part is 681, which is scheduled to ship November 5.

O'Neil's is called LAST DAYS OF GOTHAM. What exactly BATTLE FOR THE COWL will entail has not been revealed.
