Rather to end the Colossus and kitty pryde's relationship, marvel trap Shadowcat in a missile and throught her in space. We lost a great character because Marvel didn't have nerve to end the thing that should've never happen in the first place.

Marvel did nothing. Only those involved in the comic itself are directly involved.
That said, being a Shadowcat fan, I'm not really sure I want her to return.
And if she does, it might work best as part of the Starjammers story.

Why is that? I always call her Shadowcat, but why is she officially just Kitty Pryde?I guess it's just b/c she went so long without a consensus codename that her real name really just took hold by default.
Along the same lines, when did Jean Grey ditch "Marvel Girl" and go just by "Jean Grey" (like in the TAS)? when did she (not the Phoenix Force mimicking her) officially start using the codename "Phoenix?"

Er... No.

I always associate Shadowcat with the Blue Jacket costume she was wearing when she left Uncanny and joined Excalibur. After it was gone I kind of feel so was the name. She was just Kitty Pryde. Or Just Pryde in late Excalibur - as in Pryde and Wisdom. An excellent pairing.

Let's see, Kitty has been fused with a metal bullet shooting through space. A metal bullet that only had so much air in its widdle plot-device chamber. Can Kitty even breathe when she's phasing? Well, it doesn't matter much because she doesn't have any air or water or anything.
So even if someone figures out how to stop a speeding intangible bullet and someone else figures out a way to separate Kitty from the bullet somehow, she's probably a vegetable. or dead. or a dead vegetable. maybe all the asparagus blather was quite on point.
Oh wait! I know! her friends can do a magic spell to bring her back from what they are sure is the eternal torment of death! And then she can get very annoyed by it because she was actually in magic fun land! And she can SING to them about how pissed off she is to be back to the land of mutants!
yeah, that's it.

yeah, that's it.
Ok Mister Nay-Sayer, Kitty can sustain herself indefinitely while phased. The longer she remains phased to the bullet, the more it becomes a part of her. That means after long enough time passes, she'll be able to control the bullet and steer it!
After that, she just needs to find a big enough planet to crash into then just unphase herself. All that time in space will afford her plenty of time to meditate and improve her powers.
When she gets back, she will be more powerful than you can possibly imagine.

i never use the codenames...the characters deserve to be called by the names they were born with...

This is really so true. I mean, in the Ultimate Universe mutants took monikers based on their powers or whatever as away of claiming they were reborn, at least this was Magneto's followers philosophy. I don't think that was in the case in 616 though, as they apparently took monikers just for the sake of having different names to call each other in the field. I mean, really with all the Scott's in the world, I hardly think that calling him Cyclops is going to make him in less noticeable considering he's the only person to my knowledge with that kind of power.
However then you have the monikers that just so easier to say than the real names. Like Dust, I don't even think I can pronounce her first name correctly and I don't really wanna try.
I especially notice amongst the younger X-Men, first name calling is the norm, even in missions. No one calls Cessily Kincaid Mercury on missions, its just Cess. Surge, Rockslide, Wolfcub, all of which called by their real names more than their monikers.

09-23-2008, 06:21 AM
You need to respect their privacy and call them by their codenames while in public. Otherwise their secret identity will become public.
Cyclops is being very confusing regarding name use. He talks about how he is building an army, but the new "rule" is that the kids are on a first name basis with the adults while not in the field. That doesn't seem very Army-ish..

when she does eventually return, you know their all just gonna make fun of her forever. Kittycat and the big bullet express, Katya bit the bullet and got carried away, what really sucks about what happened to her is that she doesn't even officially get to die. Just exist as a part of a ridiculously big bullet. So no afterlife, no resurrection from the dead. She'll just crash into a planet made of adamantum and live there until the natives give her a ship home.
You know what would be cool, if Kitty was used as a plot device for Marvel's very last comicbook as the bullet that killed Galactus.

Remember that the bullet is travelling at or near light speed without the benefit of stargates or warp drive or other comic book tech. If Einstein's Theory of Relativity holds, then by the time they retreive her from the bullet(which I figure will happen in a few years at most, long enough to respect Whedon's arc but still keep the Kitty fans happy), by her perspective she'll only have been gone for a few hours or days.

When did it accelerate to reach light speed without engines? If the initial thrust did all the acceleration Kitty should have been totally squished by the resulting G-force as she was not phasing when it launched.
Edit: I know, I know, comic book physics.

It is a magic bullet. It already traveled from a planet that took half a day to reach through hyperspace without going through hyperspace.
Am I the only one who is scared that Kitty will return as some kind of Widget-like thing?

You see, I always call her Shadowcat because that's what she was called when I was first introduced to her.
Mind you, I was introduced to her through a trading card back during the '90s. So, with the word "Shadowcat" written across it in big letters, it seemed pretty likely that was what I was supposed to call her.
I remember that in Generation X, it seemed like the names were pretty much just nicknames that they branded each other with. I remember M saying something like "I guess the other kids are calling him Chamber now".
Anyway, the names are just part of the whole superhero mystique. Without colorful names to call everyone, it wouldn't be quite as much fun.

If it wasn't at or better than light speed, that bullet would take over a hundred years to reach Earth anyway, so this issue would be moot since she'd have died of old age!
Yep, comic book physics. What can ya do?
What I wanna know is why there isn't a large chunk of Manhattan Island without any electronics, since anything electronic would have shorted out when she phased the bullet through anyway!
