Run D.M.C.
Jeff Beck
Chic
Wanda Jackson
Little Anthony and the Imperials
The Stooges
War
Bobby Womack

And some small, do-nothing band from San Francisco called Metallica.

Metallica will get in, no doubt about that. And Jeff Beck should. Run D.M.C., I don't know about. They had a couple hits, but their influence had a larger impact than their music. Chic is iffy. They had a couple hit songs and Nile Rodgers is a legend, but that was more as a producer.

I don't know the others.

Jeff Beck might already be in it twice...
Hope he gets another go. They might make Iggy wait a few more years. Run DMC might get in so they can revisionist them into being a rock group.

Jeff Beck is in as a member of the Yardbirds.

I'm still mystified how anyone with no connection to rock and roll gets nominated (Run DMC) much less voted in (Madonna).

Jeff Beck & the Stooges deserve it the most. They have influenced many rock-n-roll musicians/performers etc...

No connection? There was this little jam with Aerosmith....

That and all the hard rock samples...though I actually kind of agree with Deathstroke on this one. While they have more connection to rock'n'roll than say, De La Soul (another great hip-hop act) it is the Rock'n'Roll Hall of Fame. It's devoted to rock music so why does hip-hop get in there beyond building up the mythology that Jan Wenner's personal museum is anything more important than just that.

Metallica, Beck, and the Stooges are probably shoo-ins by this point. (Run-DMC will have to wait until the average voting age decreases due to attrition. I'm sure the surviving members give a shit about being acknowledged by a bunch of aging hippies.)

Wanda Jackson (first woman to RAWK), Bobby Womack (the missing link between Sam Cooke and Marvin Gaye), and War (Latin Funk in excelsis) deserve it far more, particularly as rock & roll is a far broader church than guitar obsessives think.

Chic is bigger and better than rock & roll anyway, and Little Anthony is sheer pandering to the grumpy contingent who think that rock & roll died at the British Invasion. He's no Frankie Lymon.

The jam with Aerosmith does not make them ROCK AND ROLL. It means they did something with a rock and roll bent.

I once played on a championship volleyball team in 7th grade...it doesn't make me Karch Kiraly.

How is Chic nominated when Rush is ignored?

Sucker MC's should call me sire
To burn my kingdom, you must use fire
I won't stop rockin' till I retire

And my hip hop knowledge is not what I'd like it to be, but wasn't Run DMC one of the early users of rock riffs instead of R&B or disco?

As I said earlier, because the Rock'n'Roll Hall of Fame is influenced by the personal biases (and personal politics) of the nominating committee. (Which includes the same generational group of rock critics that Jan Wenner hails from.) And as Jon said it still boils down to getting nods from a bunch of aging hippies. People just think it's a big deal because the museum has a huge budget and lots of publicity, just like the Oscars.

They were and did much to popularise it.

Well, and the name. Phrases like "Hall of Fame" and "Best [fill in the blank]" tend to make people listen.
