I am fond of music and you can say that music is tension buster for me. I would love to hear music while I work. May be on my ipod with minimum sound.

Tell me guys ... do you prefer to hear music while you work ??

Yes. Every day before I leave the house, I grab a handful of CDs for work.

CD's? That's so quaint.

I either hook my iPod up at work or stream some radio off of the web.

Yeah, being an ardent collector of many things, I prefer tangibles.

Bingo.

Even if I would go for a populist mix so as not to alienate my co-workers, I'd have to be the one making the mix.

My entire crew takes turns playing music and programming the radio, which makes for an eclectic mix.

I for one enjoy the hell out of most of it.

Of course it helps that my crew doesn’t seem to be into the whole boy band / teen girl singer thing.

One of the few perks of my job is that I have a my own office with a nice Mac, Bose speakers and a few gigs worth of mp3s. The downside is that sometimes I have to turn the music down. Otherwise, I usually rock out.

Only music I can listen to really is the stuff I'm cutting into the shows I'm working on. It's not good.

Yes, but it can be too much of a distraction.

No.Yeah, that's my position as well. In too many places where I work, the person calling the shots has absolutely appalling taste in music.

Why are so many techno fans unaware that not everybody loves techno? That comes across as a little... socially retarded, to say the least.

Dude, the beats are fucking killer.

And you really can't miss the "good part" of the song, when it's 20 minutes of the same thing... it has it's benefits.

Anyway, I have the ipod as backup, which is usually on a good 5 hours a day, or the co-worker with radio doesn't like anything too tasteless, and theres some good XM radio stations. I don't have speakers, so internet radio (itunes to get edinburgh fresh air radio is my choice) is not in my control.

When I'm writing, yes.

When I'm doing the steady gig - tele-fundraising, no. I can't hear the calls.

Ditto.

Granted I work at a major Canadian retail chain that has the same rock mix playing in the background over and over so it's pretty bleh. Most of the time I can't hear it so it's not that bad, though it sucks being able to pick out the recognisable bits of songs you've heard over and over. (Unless it's "Light My Fire" in which case it intrusively drills itself into my skull every time it gets to Ray Manzarek's atrocious wanking.)

Hmmmm...maybe that's why I was never destined to work in tele-marketing. It was always much more important for me to be able to hear the office radio above the voices of the people I was calling.

I work from home now and it's bliss...I have music playing from the moment I sit down at my PC every morning, right up until I close my eyes and drift off to sleep at the end of the night.

Just another one of the benefits of working for yourself.

I have my local jazz radio station (www.kmhd.org) playing at my desk all day - unless I switch over to Tom Leykis (www.blowmeuptom.com) in the late afternoon.

Mac and Bose speaker thats really explosive combination. I am sure you love every bit of your music. I also want to have bose speaker but so far they are out of my budget range. But do not worry I have started saving for that and very soon they will make my room more beautiful and attractive.

No, cant hear it on the factory floor (have to wear earplugs anyway)

I work with a buch of college kids, so at work I mostly let them play DJ, with me occassionally playing something just to suprise them.

It makes for a pleasent work enviroment.

Yeah I am fond of music at work specially when I am doing some boring stuff. At that time I just need fast music so that I can avoid my sleepy eyes. Seems to me that now our management is trying to put some woofer and speaker so that we can enjoy our favourite music.
