Hey everybody.
If I was to say the following...
"Hello oh wise members of the CBR music forum! Please school me in the ways of rock and punk rock music. Please list 10 or more albums throughout history that every fan of this genre should own."
...which albums would you list?
I won't be around for a day or so but I look forward to seeing what you come up with.

"Hello oh wise members of the CBR music forum! Please school me in the ways of rock and punk rock music. Please list 10 or more albums throughout history that every fan of this genre should own."
Rock AND Punk Rock, or just punk rock? 'Cause the latter is easy, but the former is really, really hard knowing how big rock is. Anyways for punk your best bets are...
Funhouse by the Stooges
The Clash by the Clash (I prefer the original UK version)
Nevermind the Bollocks by the Sex Pistols
Blank Generation by Richard Hell and the Voidoids
Singles Going Steady by the Buzzcocks
The Ramones by the Ramones
Zen Arcade by Husker Du
Machine Gun Etiquette by the Damned
New York Dolls by the New York Dolls
Raw Power by the Stooges
Granted I left off all those great bands that sometimes get listed in with punk even though they playing a different game musically like Blondie, Talking Heads, Pere Ubu, and Television.

Like Adam, I'm not exactly sure what you're looking for, but here's 10 rock albums, in no particular order, that I think everyone should own (and a few of them contain punk elements):
1. London Calling, The Clash
2. This Year's Model, Elvis Costello and The Attractions
3. The Dark Side of the Moon, Pink Floyd
4. Arthur (Or the Decline and Fall of the British Empire), The Kinks
5. Outlandos d'Amour, The Police
6. Exile on Main Street, Rolling Stones
7. Howlin' Wolf, Howlin' Wolf (I include this blues album because a lot of rock artists cover or borrow from it, sometimes in the form of disasters like Cream's "Spoonful")
8. Rubber Soul, The Beatles
9. Daydream Nation, Sonic Youth
10. Electric Ladyland, Jimi Hendrix Experience

Two can play at that game!
Marquee Moon by Television
Different Class by Pulp
Rocket House by Chris Whitley
Ege Bamyasi by Can
LC by the Durutti Column
Maggot Brain by Funkadelic (this counts as rock, right?)
Aman Iman by Tinariwen (I suppose this is rock)
Revolver by the Beatles (it's much better than Seargent Pepper's)
The Chuck Berry Anthology by Chuck Berry
Bitches Brew by Miles Davis (wait that's...)
Keep in mind this list is pretty random and I threw it out for list requirements. Rock is the furthest thing from my mind right now, as indicated by the Miles Davis choice. *Goes back to listening to Sonny Rollins*

I got to meet Keith Morris once during a promotional thing for the Wonderful record. He seemed like a nice guy. He mentioned being friends with the guys in Motley Crue, which surprised me at the time.

You would be surprised how much the 80's punk & 80's metal people got along. I remember talking to a member of the Meatmmen in a club in Minnesota (First Avenue) in the 80's & he said he wanted the band to be a cross between Minor Threat & Motley Crue. Go figure!

I suppose I should have stated that two lists would be more appropriate. One for rock and one for punk.
Still, great work and I'll be checking out everything mentioned. Any more?

Yes but It's been a long time since I've seen it. I went through a phase for many years where i didn't listen much to the music I had listened to when I was a wee pup. But the nostalgia bug must have bitten me because I have been playing a lot of old punk stuff lately.
I saw SD and Youth Brigade a few times, but I think I saw them together at a Rock Hotel show in NYC. Irving Plaza I think. The memory really goes when you get old!

I interviewed him once too. He seemed like a nice guy but I dont remember the funny. But then we really only talked about his music and it was 20 years agoI saw D.O.A. at the late, much-lamented Starfish Room around '98 or '99. Started talking to Joe after the gig, and he told me and a buddy of mine a bunch of stories about touring in Atlantic Canada. I came pretty close to pissing my pants, he was so funny. Very deadpan, which only added to the comedy.
