Is anyone else tired of the fact that a once pretty decent and entertaining show has become one long commercial for deoderant? Please tell me I'm not the only one.

Well, with a name like "You-Reek-A", what did you expect?

(Sorry, Shisho -- but you knew that SOMEONE had to say it!)

It was cute for a few episodes. WHen the poroduct became and actual plot-point? Yeah, that was too much.

Did anyone see the episode of Smallville that was just one big commercial for Stride gum? It was awful and hilarious and depressing all at the same time. Is Eureka like that every week or something?

It wasn't at first, but this season has been one long commercial for Degree. The last episode actually had the commercial written into the dialog. It was absolutely redonk. I'm probably going to stop watching the show if they keep up with this. The writing is just atrocious, and it used to be so good and clever.

Yeah I saw that episode. What was weird too were the commercials that aored about the episode. It was like a commercial for the show that is basically a commercial itself.

I have not seen this show and it looks like I have not missed anything.

One of the things especially irritating about Eureka are the Degree/Eureka "infomercials" just after every segment, so the show is now a commercial about the commercials about the show that is a commercial. Seriously, this is the reason why I used to love DVR, was to get rid of the ads. Now I'm just going to cut Eureka off as one giant ad, and I really used to love that show.

When it was a silly bit where the logo would pop up on the back of workman's coveralls, and the show kind of winked at that? Yeah, it was almost amusing.

But making it a plot point? Yeah. I agree. Too. Far.

Well, it's been a major plot point all season long.

The new CEO/Director is using the research facilities to make marketable products (i.e. products to make tons of money). In this case, it's Degree.

I just love the one episode where you see the Degree testing dummy having a flamethrower used on it..... without it burning.

Is this the show about the little town filled with einsteins?

I enjoyed the first 2 episodes of season 1 but then it became too techno-babbleish for me.

It saddens me but I will tolerate it as enjoy the show. I get the feeling that thanks to the incompetent management of NBC, the sister networks (Scifi being one) have suffered massive budget cuts that have resulted in such tactics. Its either that or simply cancel the shows (as they have done twice for Stargate despite being their best rated shows). Because of DVD sales, budget cuts and production costs, pretty much if the show isn't owned by the network, its either tactics like the above or cancellation.

By the way, there was no 3rd season initially scheduled.... There was a last-minute reprieve.

I'm enjoying this season, even though it's the 3rd best season so far. I thought I'd miss Stark, but I'm very glad he's gone. They can definitely get rid of Carter's sister though. And it seems as if Zoe's taken "dumb pills" this season... she was portrayed as being much smarter last year.

Blame the Writer's Strike, the Guild memebrs were out so it was up to savy ad agency writers to step up to the plate. And they all got incentives to push the accounts they were working on at the time.

In other news, New York City lost it's lease to the Brooklyn Bridge and I was able to obtain the deed at a bargain price, so I'm taking offers. I'll let it go for around 200 Million, the law was passed so you could charge for tolls on bridges and tunnels so you'd make the money back in less than 5 years.

oh none of this was true incase you were wondering. [/end spoiler]

And I keep hearing that, but honestly, I wish they'd just go ahead and cancel the show if it's going to be one long commercial anyway. I mean, I'm going to stop watching it either way, may as well remember it as a good show, right?

So how is that any different from most episodes of Smallville these days?

I haven't watched Eureka in awhile, but then I haven't watched much of anything in awhile bout the only show I do watch with any fanaticism these days is Burn Notice.

I can understand Product Placement but yeah it's like they are under contract to use the phrase "over-engineered" at least 3 times every episode in addition to all the other references. Really distracting for an otherwise fun show ...

That's tragic. I loved the first season, for the same reasons as you've mentioned. At the time I was sad when it ended, because I had this sense that a show as funny and clever would not last long on the block. Firefly-itis.

Sounds like they just gutted it instead from what you describe. I'll get the first season on dvd.

Great title sequence as well. I love anything with Joe Morton.
