Article at Newsarama (http://www.newsarama.com/comics/090817-XMenNoir.html).

I prefer to read about the actual mutants myself but Van Lente is doing a pretty good job of selling the comic here. What else has he written?

I'm assuming that because these aren't mutants everyone will look human. Will Angel appear? Maybe he's the character we aren't supposed to guess!

I'm a bit disappointed (but not surprised) that Jean is dead in this. I think X-Men Noir sounds like a fun concept though and I'll definitely check it out.

At least we'll probably get to see Jean's mutilated corpse (again).

X MEN NOIR #1 (of 4)
Written by FRED VAN LENTE
Pencils & Cover by DENNIS CALERO
Variant Cover by DENNIS CALERO

"The coroner's men flipped the redheaded corpse over so Dukes and Magnus from Homicide could get a better look at her. 'Better' being a relative term in this case, with the claw marks that slashed her face into a featureless, bloody mask and turned her guts into a butcher shop explosion.

"But the tattoo -- the simple, encircled 'X' above the left shoulder blade -- remained intact, and Dukes pointed it out with the toe of his wingtip once Peter the rookie was done heaving up lunch. "'See this ink?' he said. 'Means she did time at this reform school upstate, run by this shrink, Xavier...'"

This Jean can't revive after being a corpse like her mutant counter part can.

It's funny...I'm not a fan of noir in the slightest, yet I find myself getting more and more jazzed at the concept of this.

What I want to know is what kind of variant the variant covers will be? (You know, 50/50, 10:1, et cetera.) 'Cause I love the promo images that they're using for the variant covers, but not enough to spend a fortune getting them.

Unless it's all a trick and it isn't really her corpse . . .

Yeah, I've thought about that. Since her face is clawed off perhaps they only think its Jean and it turns out it isn't.

Yes, having the tattoo be the only identifying feature is suspicious, isn't it? Maybe Jean fans shouldn't write this one off.

I was thinking this as well. But also bit my tongue hoping not to spoil the entire series if that turns out to be the case.

Does anyone know what the cast will be for Noir?

They're still keeping it under wraps - so the only characters we know of that'll be in this for sure are the one's that have appeared on the covers. So...one-eye, Gumbo, Shunk-head, Marvel's cash cow # 2 (aka McStabby), and magnet-o. Oh, and Jean - but she doesn't really count since she's dead already.

What I want to know is will the mini focus on several characters, or just Gumshoe Cyke as he runs around the city meeting various people?

You know, when they laid out the time period (post-WWII to '50s) all I could think about was Happy Days (which was set in the '50s) . It's going to take some effort for me to shake that perception now to set the right mood lol.

I would still love to follow a story led by "just gumshoe cyke".
