Uncanny X-Men #502
Karma's been used for bait for the Hellfire Cult, who are running throughout San Fran brutally assaulting any mutants they can find, fueled by Empath. Once Nightcrawler teleports in with Wolverine to help her fend off her attackers, she points out how their masks make them immune to psionics somehow. Nightcrawler suggests she back out of the fight and leave it to them, to be safe. And while Karma is a bit disappointed, since she was having fun beating up one or two herself, she complies (laundry at their base, one can assume).
Cyclops has Emma Frost transmitting his thoughts to Logan and Kurt, and reminds them to bring back a Hellfire Cult goon alive. Kurt finds this odd, as the X-Men aren't killers, but Wolverine plays dumb (since Kurt doesn't know what he and X-Force do on weekends...) about Cyke's comment. Kurt teleports out of the line of fire of a bullet, and behind the gunman, putting him in a chokehold and making him pass out. Logan does the same on another Cult member, and suddenly, there's only one left.
One very frightened guy, who pees his pants in terror. And his night's far from over.
Meanwhile... Megan Gwynn, aka Pixie, is laid up in bed, nursing her injuries from the massive beatdown she got last ish. And don't be fooled by what her facial expressions looked like while it happened, she totally didn't enjoy it.
Beast, realizing his patient is still a bit shaken, comes in with a tray of coffee (HANK! NO! Don't give this girl caffeine! You're only feeding her Red Bull/energy drink addiction!) Hank brought some company...
And that's when the long, dry spell, the agony of anticipation ends for the fans of the Goddess of DivaSparkles... She's back! It's...
Dazzler!!!! *fierce!*
http://i197.photobucket.com/albums/aa262/surrealmonkey_wedding/worstblogever/UXM502-1.jpg
Wow. Is Pixie like the Make-A-Wish kid dying of cancer of the X-team, or what? Ilyana Rasputin was dying of the Legacy Virus, and she never got treatment like this.
Anyway... a particularly busty Dazzler (seriously, whoever she's traced off of has some disproportionate implants) introduces herself as Ali, and suddenly, Pixie's up in bed and wide awake. Beast nonchalantly says, "What? I know her. We're old friends. Thought she might cheer you up." Take note, ladies and gents. For Hank McCoy has the hook-up.
Well, Dazzler heard about what happened, and wanted to check and see how Megan is. Pixie's concerned about how she doesn't look her best, but Ali downplays it, and cuts to the chase... she's got some business to discuss with young Pixie! She heard that her wings create some psychotropic dust when she shakes them (Dazzler wants to relive the 70s by snorting a line off of Pixie's wings? NEAT!). But seriously, Dazzler wants Pixie to get all healed up, and then she wants her to come dance for her in her shows, and let her hallucinogenic dust make the shows even trippier. Like a Pink Floyd Laser Light show times a billion kinds of awesome...
Back at Greymalkin Industries, the member of the Hellfire Cult is strpped down to a table (bondage reference #1), confused, and asking where he is. Cyclops tells him, "You're in hell. Hi." And as the cult member is helpless to defend himself, Cyclops sends out Mr. Xiong, who was a mutant acupuncturist in San Francisco, who had his powers taken by the Decimation. He used to be able to create psionic needles that could drain psychic toxins from his patients prior to M-Day. And, now he's working with real needles on the cult member. Why? Karma's a bit of a mind reader, and still present. And she can tell, their prisoner is terrified of needles. Karma leaves the room, amused with herself.
Cyclops explains to the guy who his optic blasts are just concussive force, and starts moving a beam closer to the needles that have already been placed into the guy's face, and as Emma watches from the next room, he starts panicking and spilling his guts about the entire Hellfire Cult operation.
Cyke moves into the next room to discuss the intel with Emma Frost, and he tells her they know where the cult's at, when they're staffed, and the downside... their masks make them immune to psionics. Meaning, Emma will need to be muscle. And, this cues Emma to... well...

Go into diamond form, flex an arm, and grin like an idiot, flaunting the impossibly large breasts on a freakishly small waist.
Cyclops asks a good question... where did a bunch racist thugs get tech like that?
Meanwhile (again with the meanwhiles), in the Greymalkin Industries Garage, Wolverine works on his car while a radio plays Joe Walsh's "Life's Been Good" Just then, Pixie enters, and Wolverine realizes she was planning on sneaking out, and leaving without telling anyone. She tries to change subjects about leaving, by asking him if his car actually works... and Wolverine... shows off for a teen sidekick.
Logan actually does her the favor of giving her a ride all the way to Oakland, where she has a place to stay for awhile. Logan subtlely still tries pointing out that she's running away, and as long as her mutation is that obvious, there's no point in running anywhere. Pixie thanks him for the ride and leaves.
Emma Frost, meanwhile, decides to gather up the strike team to take on the Hellfire Cult, and seeks out Nightcrawler. It seems Kurt's taken the initiative, and built a chapel inside Greymalkin Industries, without asking anyone. He just felt that it could provide members of the team with a place for comfort. (other than all the sex the team's supposedly been having, of course). And, Kurt, for his part, is kind enough to ask Emma if she prays. Her answer?
"These are two hundred dollar Italian cashmere Kiki De Montparnasse stockings, Kurt. I'll only kneel in them if absolutely necessary. Op's up in ten minutes, your holiness."
Speaking of kneeling for somebody... It's time for more bondage imagery! And in a big way!
The Red Queen, in her full dominatrix getup, has that worm (seriously, she calls him worm like six or seven times in this issue.) Empath, on all fours, and she wants him to tell her all about Emma Frost. To get him ready to talk, she even places her stiletto boot on his face. Empath has a story he tells (giving us a flashback of all the Hellions) being taught by Emma how to break the minds of men. But one night, Empath got a bit giddy, and tried to use his powers to peek around in his headmistress' head while she slept. (Holy rohypnol, Batman!) Emma detected him right away, saying, "Manuel, you little maggott (worse than a worm?)" So, instead, she gave him what he wanted. She opened up her mind to him, and forced him inside. And as Empath puts it, "She was ice. She was cold, cruel nothingness. It was the most beautiful and perfect thing I had ever seen."
http://i197.photobucket.com/albums/aa262/surrealmonkey_wedding/worstblogever/UXM502-3.jpg
http://i197.photobucket.com/albums/aa262/surrealmonkey_wedding/worstblogever/UXM502-4.jpg
The Red Queen, hearing this, pulls off her gimp mask, and changes her appearance somehow to look just like Emma Frost. and asks if "she looked like this, worm? She felt like this. Let the X-Men come for us, worm. We are ready."?
Well, the X-Men come, bringing Storm, Emma, Kurt, Logan, and Scott, while Beast works the Sage/Tessa position (on the horn). And in fact, they have the SFPD on their side, sealing up all the exits.
After they start pwning the Hellfire Cult in about two seconds, Empath realizes he's got to flee, and the Red Queen, still looking like Emma, leaves him to Logan's mercies without being detected.
Empath uses his powers to cripple Logan with... fear? I think? He's apparently stronger, and Nightcrawler tries to follow, but meets with the same fate, and confirms, Manny is stronger.
Wait, if he was stronger, why didn't he just make Kurt and Logan start having sex for three days like he did to Sharon Friedlander and Tom Corsi years ago? Hmm...
Well, before Cyclops can do anything about it, Empath escapes down his super-duper secret path, into a tunnel that isn't on any of the city maps Beast is using for reference. And before Dr. McCoy can warn the SFPD so they can prepare for this new escape route, Empath bursts out onto the street on a motorcycle to make his getaway...
Meanwhile (enough with the meanwhiles!) Pixie's talking to a grody, dreadlocked dude she knows in Oakland, and tells him, no, thank you very much, I don't want to go with you with Berkeley. I want to borrow your bike, and head home to the X-peeps. Because I made a mistake. And thus, our issue ends with Pixie riding a Vespa, with helmet and goggles, heading back to San Fran.
Nevermind why a chick who can teleport had to hitch a ride with Logan, and then scam a scooter for the trip back. Bah, that would be thinking.
Thoughts:
Like I said, Empath being "more powerful"? Maybe in the Hellfire Cult's numbers, but the hoodoo he pulls on Kurt & Logan is a step back from his worst stuff, in my mind.
Pixie using mundane transportation? A bit unnecessary, but it telegraphs the inevitable high speed motorcycle chase she'll have with Empath on the Vespa next issue.
Sexually charged art with megaboobs that's only appropriate in the S&M scene? The Hellions looking anything like the Hellions?
But, you have the pros of the fake torture scene, Kurt & Logan making a dude pee his pants, Emma's thoughts on religion, Karma having fun screwing with a dude, and Dazzler trying to turn her shows into a big drug trip, while Beast calls in favors. This issue wasn't great, but it's better than Uncanny has been in a few months. 7/10.

All this S&M dominatrix stuff is unsettling, and makes me wonder if Fracbaker are trying to out weirdsex Warren Ellis. Can't wait until this is over and we get to the Terry Dodson art, Angel/Beast assembling the Fringe Science team, and more of Nightcrawler and Colossus. Some Iceman/Cannonball/Husk cameos would be nice too.

Good issue for the most part. Even with the bizarre sex obsession kick the writers are on.
Loved the scene with Pixie, Beast, and Dazzler. Even if Dazzler's huge bust was a boggle. Dazzler goes back to blond and gets a breast enlargement? The whole thing about wanting to use Pixie to dust those attending her concerts with psychadelic drugs was a huge....errr moment though. Heh.
Scott torturing the guy for information was just.... a huge BWAH moment. He doesn't have the anti-telepathic Hellfire Cult helmet on anymore, why not just have Emma pop inside and scrounge up what they need. The torturing just seemed to be like what Marvel did with Tony Stark, trying to make Scott look bad ass. And much like there, they're really only making Scott look like a jerk. X-Force was shocking, but now we see that Scott's playing the George "Dubya" Bush Guantanamo Bay home game.
The whole Red Queen thing just continues to make me shake my head though. Corny.
Finally, loved Beast handling the coms from the base. "Ahoy-hoy." Hehe!!

What makes you think these two ideas are incompatible? Actually, realistically there's a fair chance of criminal charges, but comic books are notable for ignoring issues of law; compared to the multiple felonies for beating someone up, dragging him to their secret underground lair, and torturing him for information, intoxicating the audience is nothing.

The only crime with respect to intoxicating the audience is if Dazzler doesn't charge extra for it. If the squares in SF raise a fuss, she should move to the Netherlands and have brownies sold during her show. There is so much merchandising potential. Even the Red Queen would stand to benefit from the move as her name already implies a stint at the Red Light District!

some proportions are off and some body parts are anatomically incorrect... like beast's shoulders in some panels, most female hips and boobs, certain legs at certain angles, etc.
i liked the page right before they crashed the hellfire cult's base, where they're on the roof. beautiful page. and the first page of thc battle, storm looks great! no porn face... i really like that pose/face, its original for Land. i really, really do think he's actually drawing a lot of his stuff now instead of tracing it all. some pages, you can tell the difference.

Anyhoo, I also dont understand why theyre making a few continuity glitches.
A). Elixir should have healed Pixie all up by now.
B). Pixie should have teleported to Oakland and then teleported back home.
C). Emma could have simply interogated the Hellfire Cult dude. Although the acupuncture scene was pretty cool, and I'm glad Karma got to be used.
D). Why does Pixie live in Oakland? She's around 16 now (tops). She should be living either at Greymalkin Industries, or at least with a X-Man who is old enough to give her a home and food and stuff.
And on a side note, I really like how the authorities work WITH the X-Men. Its a very nice change. I like how the police are friendly with the X-Men and they can work together. The whole "authorities hate super heroes" can get pretty old, so its nice to see a change.

A) Elixir is not the X-Men's first aid kit, though. He's still in Colorado, at Angel's Aerie, and I don't think they'd fly him in because Pixie is bruised. She'll heal on her own, given time.
B) Correct on Pixie's teleporting being not used.
C) Emma would've been much simpler, but they wanted Scott to look all big & bad. I can't say why they went this route, but whatever.
D) There are a lot of age-dependent things that get overlooked in the history of the X-Men. See Kitty Pryde & Piotr Rasputin for more details.

haahahaha SO true on the last part. she was 13, he was 20 i believe... thats weird. it just is! i like pixie, and i didn't notice boobs in this issue. actually, i was looking for them so i could go "ugh... boooobs! >:o" but her arms were crossed, there was something in front of her, or she was facing the other way in almost all her body-panels. so we just don't know if she's ''flat'' or ''all that.''
and i took it as emma was listening in on the scene, not looking cuz she'd be seen. i'm sure she's playing dumb to try and figure out the situation for herself. she doesn't want to intrude cyclop's mind and she could oppose to him acting different. someone like karma doesn't know cyclops well enough to question him or to even recognize him acting out of character, whereas emma would be opposed to such a drastic change in character and ethic. i feel like she was playing "naive bimbo" when he came out, which is why she was flexing and just down for whatever he said. karma doesn't know what's up... emma's onto scott, scott is getting careless.

Shapechanging to a blonde?
The Red Queen, hearing this, pulls off her gimp mask, and changes her appearance somehow to look just like Emma Frost. and asks if "she looked like this, worm? She felt like this. Let the X-Men come for us, worm. We are ready."?

my thought s are that it isn a new redhead. i think the point of the x-books lately is to use as many of the characters they already have as possible without bringing in new characters (uhhh.... ink and graymalkin never even happened....). they're upping empath to major villain ranks, re-using old concepts in new ways instead of making completely new things and failing only to recycle this process over and over.
the redhead is someone we know. just like the "goddess: in the divided we stand arc was martinique jason instead of a new person. they're all about old=new these days it seems. it would almost be... pointless to have anew redhead jump in when it could easily be a way to bring back maddie.

Wow... lots of sexual themes in this issue. It must have been a while for the artist I guess...
It doesn't seem right to pass judgement on this before I receive the issue but . . .
What with Land's anti-art, the idea of Pixie supplying hallucenogens for Dazzler's audience, 80's speak and more of Emma's spending habits I'm become more disenchanted with Uncanny with each issue that's come out since 500.

Great review !!
I am still in two minds about Uncanny...
I do not like the continuous slipping of the Moral line... now they are torturating people? Just like that? With two telepaths in the next room? Would be wrong Nightcrawler if he found out and wasnt pleased with this?
I love how all the Hellions look really interested in the classroom while the girls are booored. Even if the Hellions are just a bunch of traced faces with different expressions...
The art is still a issue... it looks too static and the women... lets just say that, when the red queen unmasked, I thought "Ohh... She is like Emma Frost... er... or maybe Dazzler? Husk? Pamela Anderson? andy blonde woman by Land?"
And there is still an air of over-semi-forced coolness... It is being difficult to me to adapt to this. But there is a lot to like in the issue, so I will keep trying

Although, I found one panel with Angel when they were on the rooftop posing.
But no Julian Keller, no.
So just why did Pixie run off now? It doesn't make much sense to me. She was missing the others so much when she had returned to Scotland, and this isn't the first time she's been seriously hurt.

Dang. Well that's disappointing. Though of course Julian could be part of the Hellfire Cult like Empath, and between his somewhat bland appearance and Land's art, it could be hard to identify him.

The western idea (okay, it's pretty much just the U.S.) that it's more okay to desensitize young people to extreme violence of the most gory or torturous nature than it is to do the same with sex is baffling. Our culture has some screwed up priorities.
Anyway, I'm not sure what to think of this issue. The Dazzler thing was something of a "wtf" moment, but it was a sweet gesture. There's plenty of other issues related to logic at work here (Pixie's travel arrangements, the torture scene), but at least it's an improvement over the last few issues, and it seems like things are going somewhere.

I don't see a problem with Pixie not teleporting to the hippies and then teleporting back. She just got her ass kicked for being different, I would think after such a vicious beating she would want to feel a little "normal", human, for a while, thus the ride with Logan and the scooter ride back.
I liked this issue, but then I've liked almost everything since Brubaker has taken over and everything Fraction has written seems to be like singing sweet nothings into my ears. The plot is pretty interesting, I think the Red Queen is an interesting character, she really seems to have a deep hatred of Emma Frost, I wonder where that stems from. I look forward to seeing the conclusion of the arc.
As for the art, I really don't mind Land's art, the porn poses and model strikes don't phase me, I really don't care, it's pretty, it flows well during battle scenes, could care less really. I'm entertained, that's all I care about.

It's depressing to have all the women look like this. There is a vast array of differing facial features such as the shape of chin, forehead and eyes, the arch of eyebrows, and the depth of cheekbones that makes each face individual. It's as if only one version of female attractiveness exists in this comic now and the only thing that changes is hair color and length..

Loved the Logan-Nightcrawler scenes. And the Storm's caption: "Kenyan Weather Goddes. Bare-knuckle streetfighter". So, Storm's one of the core members now. She kinda just being wallpaper in this issue though..

The real "flip a coin" is James Proudstar, Empath, or Jetstream.
I think that bottom picture has Jetstream in the front right, for his darker tones, and in the back row, Empath is on the right with the brown hair, and Proudstar to his left without.
But honestly, they're somewhat interchangable.
Perhaps a better reference for all the Hellions, and a Catseye with purple hair closer to Land's?

I enjoyed this issue far more than 501. Wasn't hard to do.
Overall it was solid. Shows promise. But I've been saying that since we first heard about the SF scenery was announced, but it just isn't seeming to go anywhere. And I generally like Brubaker (maybe it's Fraction I'm not liking as much?) so I don't know why I'm not digging the new direction because it has everything I should want:
TOTALLY FABULOUS Dazzler. San Francisco. Socio-political set-ups.
That said:
I see the promise. I see the forward momentum. But I don't quite see where it's going to go. I don't feel particularly introduced to the San Francisco concept yet post-500. The base, the mission -- what they're doing. And the plot threads feel incredibly disjointed so far:
We go from a telepathic summon from Emma/Scott calling mutants and former mutants to the SF Sanctuary. But aside from Karma and Dazzler, I don't see any mutants popping up.
In 500, we see "Trask" going into the club where Dazzler was performing, but that hasn't seen any follow-through yet.
Cyclops says the X-Men have a new militia role. Beast and Angel seem to think they're more of a philanthropic sub-culture with a dedicated "safe space." I'm just not seeing the follow through happen quickly enough to set the parameters to make things like the Hellfire Cult effective.
And there's more.
But I am interested to get more behind the "Red Queen" and what's going on. I suspect she's going to try and "replace" Frost next issue? Infiltrate the ranks? But I'm not sure.
Perfectly fine read! But I may have to just start reading it in trade because the singles aren't quite clicking for me yet. I'll keep on with Uncanny through the next year in monthlies, but I just don't feel connected.
ART:
DAZZLER IS LOVELY. LOVELY! This is all I need to know. I never had a big problem with Land, because the poses are pretty and it's clear.
BUT. He isn't great with emoting scenes properly and that was standing out for me this issue. When Pixie was in the car with Wolverine ("AIAIiiIiiIIEeEE!!") she looked like she was enjoying herself, when the scene read like she wasn't supposed to be.
And Storm looked a damn tranny mess in her one panel!
But what bugged me most about Land this issue were power signatures. Karma's and Empath's were muy confusing to me. Art? Or maybe just the colorist?
Overall I'd give it a B. Solid and with promise, but it needs to pick up the pace and really "identify" the new direction!

Since when do Empath and Karma have full on telepathic abilities?
I thought they were interesting because they had unique powers. Karma could possess others and Empath could manipulate their emotions. I know Karma has been expanding her telepathy, but it seems better when its specialized. And I don't remember Empath EVER being able to read minds (least of all when he was a Hellion).
I want to like this book, but the "girly-girl" and the "worm" lines are up there with "cuz" at this point and Dazzler did not seem anything like Dazzler. And I would love to read a book without Emma and Scott making out once.
And someone needs to rework everyone's power signatures. I miss the "gears" signature Karma often sports and Dazzler's colorful diamonds are lame.

This issue wasn't great, but it's better than Uncanny has been in a few months. 7/10.[/QUOTE]Wow great review and i actually like this one (maybe cause i'm off my meds and less cynical )
1. :Wow. Is Pixie like the Make-A-Wish kid dying of cancer of the X-team, or what? Ilyana Rasputin was dying of the Legacy Virus, and she never got treatment like this.
I'm sure if Illyana asked to see miss holyness the Dazzler she would have complied if she could.
2. i'm glad to see the reference to when Beast and Dazzler were friends it felt nice and it was good to see that one of those writers has actually read an X-book before.
3.Dazzler wants Pixie to get all healed up, and then she wants her to come dance for her in her shows, and let her hallucinogenic dust make the shows even trippier. Like a Pink Floyd Laser Light show times a billion kinds of awesome.. Not sure how i feel about Dazzler asking a young slightly still naive girl to be use her powers to make people in the audience high?
i mean first off what if the people don't wanna get high or if something happens to them while getting high who would be responsible ? would they throw an innocent girl in jail because she was coerced bye her idol?
Unfortunately none of those issues came to light since Pixie snuck out (which i'm not sure if is realistic or even in character)
4. could drain psychic toxins from his patients prior to M-Day. What exactly are Psychic toxins"anyway ?
5 Karma's a bit of a mind reader [/B...]When has she ever been able to read minds?
6Why didn't he just use Emma to poke around in his head? what it seriously be so wrong to give her something to do?
.
7.i dont consider putting an enemy in straps on a nurses table "bondage" unless he's into that sort of thing i think this falls more under the heading of "torture"
8[B].Nevermind why a chick who can teleport had to hitch a ride with Logan, and then scam a scooter for the trip back. Bah, that would be thinking.Maybe we can reasonably assume that her head hurts too much or is in too much pain to teleport maybe?
9.Sexually charged art with megaboobsit's Greg Lands forte just like Kirby was with his dots and" kirby tech" or Ellis with his obsession with nano- tech
Also thought Greg Lands art has gotten a little bit better.

This issue wasn't great, but it's better than Uncanny has been in a few months. 7/10 Wow great review and i actually like this one (maybe cause i'm off my meds and less cynical )

I'm loving the new direction! Dazzler, San Fran, perkyness and no-angst, gratituous bondage scenes, it's all good and awesome!!
I even love Land's art, although he overdid it this time with copy-pasting the very same panel twice in three pages' time:

Ooooh, by the way.... was I the only one who was given the impression that the Red Queen is a figment of Empath's imagination? She was TOO SURE this issue that the X-Men wouldn't find her... and she could be explained as a result of Empath's fixation on Emma Frost, the way she just turned into her et all....

I'm enjoying the story line but I still do not approve of this version of Pixie, she was better written by Yost.
My tip to help enjoy Uncanny: Before reading the issue, go through each page with a black magic marker (or crayon) and fill in all the faces so you can't see their cheesy expressions. You'll also have to tear the diamond form Emma panel out of the issue.

Hmm... now that you mention it, the Hellfire Cult does look a lot like the movie Fight Club in their HQ, and Empath would be its Tyler Durden. Interesting observation, Mitsaso.
Wasn't there something once revealed about how Empath's powers are cyclical? Like, he's empathetic towards a situation, and can amplify what's already there? I thought something like that was written during some of his more sympathetic times with Magma, I could be wrong. Maybe he's dominated some woman into being his dominatrix, rather than the other way around?
While it would explain the shapeshifting right out... it wouldn't explain the telekinesis she's used unless Empath actually just tied himself up.

It was an enjoyable read--I'll let this arc & next wrap-up before I decide whether to renew subscription or not. I haven't been blown away yet, although in all fairness I think both writers just need to set their groove with the new team & landscape and the book'll be set.
I already posted about Dazzler in the Dazz thread, but I have no complaints about her appearance. I'm really hoping she continues to show up and takes a more active role. She FINALLY looks like a hot blonde woman again! <3 And I'm surprised Land drew her to...uh..."out-booby" Emma. But hey, it's canon! I need to find that old Dazz page from her series--she always had tig bitties. Nice little nod to the old Beast/Dazzler friendship from her pre-X-Men career as well--hope we get more little nods like that.
I'd love for Karma & Cannonball to get more active & reocurring roles as well. UXM would be a great book to sptlight some of these characters.
I'm still not quite sure what to make of the whole Red Queen thing, but again--will wait for it to play out. I hope the whole "red headed psi" thing is a serious red herring because Maddie should not be revived (much as I love her) and I don't want ANYTHING Jean related touched with a 10-foot pole in the book for the forseeable future.

Yeah I don't think it's Cordelia. I haven't decided what she is, but being a figment of Emapth's imagination is a pretty good guess.
I really enjoyed Nightcrawler and Emma's interaction in this issue. I think he would be a good character to pair her up with occasionally so he could teach her some morals and be a compass character for her. Emma actually was amusing this issue to me and I actually enjoyed her one cheese-cake shot where she claims to want to brawl.
Nice to see Storm got some props about being a fighter, but I hate how Karma was just shoved out of the arc. The Dazzler was horrible I thought. I hated her cameo and it makes me not want her on the team at all. "Hey Pixie, come drug up my fans!" And her dialogue made her sound incredibly cliche and stupid. "Like, awesome", Hey, hey". I'd have rather had more Karma panels.

I'm just saying I found her cameo poorly done. I don't hate the character, and enjoyed her back in the Aussie days. I liked her cameo in Eve of Destruction. Even her Deadpool appearance was cool. Nex was lame of course, but this wasn't that great either. I even don't mind her original series, though the more I read through it the more dated it feels and it's a concept that I don't see translating well. I'm just waiting for her to join the team and do something. How many issues will it be until she "dazzles" people with Emma between to amplify it?

I don't think anyone has been particularly dazzling under Fraction and Brubaker. They've all been solid to mediocre to straight up robotic (poor Storm). Dazzler falls under that solid category for me. It wasn't an amazing appearance, but it was still enjoyable.

Discussing the art is just pointless...It's crap on toast.
The writing: Karma can read minds? Since when? She posseses people. That's pretty mega..why make her generic?
And why an elaborate torture session? Emma was outside the room...it's not like she has scrupples about digging thru someone's head.
Scott on Nightcrawler: Maybe not who you'd go to in a fight....uhm...other than that whole been doing this almost as long as him, is stronger, more versatile in combat and has been a team leader himself a number of times.
"Where'd they get tech like this?" how about, how do they know about a secret group of mercenaries to wear masks like them? OR, just assume the Hellfire Cult might be connected to the Hellfire Club...just a thought.
Why was Dazzler in a X-Uniform? (and what kind of pop-mega star (really?) wears gray?) It's made clear she's not on the team. (and why with all the sexual innuendo...though a little blatent for that...did they just not have Beast say "What? I used to bang her.")
Why was Peter mentioned in the battle plans but failed to be drawn in any of the scenes?

I think you also have to consider her ordeal. She's a teen who has just been through a violently traumatic experience. I think most of us probably alter our tones when speaking to individuals who've just gone through serious trauma. In these circumstances, what would otherwise come across as condescending comes across as caring. That's what I'm seeing.

She needs to be Ragged Robin'd. Emma's Lord Fanny rebirthing was what directly propelled her to new heights, we need the same for Ray.
I would accept Rachel as part of the second coming of Morrison, yes. Storm and Emma would also have to be present and probably Cyclops, Beast, and Wolverine too.
Sage would need a recurring role.

More so than even having a place for Jean in his head, Emma would certainly lobotomize Scott for having a mental place for Sage in his brain. Could you imagine her offense to finding such a thing?
Sage has a place for Emma in her brain though, in her "Pr0n" folder.

As for the sexual themes, they just do not seem needed, and are detracting from the story. They could have done whipped and defeated for Empath withou really making him whipped and defeated.

There was a disclaimer on the back of the tickets. All those attending the concert, by virtue of acquiring and presenting the tickets for admission, agreed to the possibility of mutant power-induced euphoria. Dazzler and those associated with the production are not liable for lewd acts and uncharacteristic behavior committed by concert-goers.

Oh for the love of Sarah Palin!
I hate getting involved in these "what the characters really meant" diatribes, but c'mon.
Pixie was just hate-crime'd for what? For being a mutant.
What is one of Pixie's powers? Her hallucinogenic dust.
Dazz -- who knows Pixie admires her -- basically is saying "Own your shit, sister! Come up with me, shake your groove thing, and let's party! Own your gift on stage with me like I own mine!"
Instead this has gone on for pages like Dazzler is all "let's drug the people! Woo! Crack is fab!"
She's trying to empower Pixie about her gift since she was just beat to near hell for simply having it. She's basically saying "Own it, girl! Let's make it happen."
She's pep-talking Pixie. It's not like she's trying to use the kid to peddle a special brand of Pixie crack.
I can find faults with the issue, but this rates about as high as the Marvel.com boarders going "The intro files say Dazzler has explosive lights! Dazzler's lights don't explode!"

No. And hopefully they'll just ignore it. Useless subplot that will just detract from the already slow-burning plots on-hand. I'd love more Dazzler time, but not to wrap up CC's leftovers.
It seems we need page time as it is to get through the myriad of sub-plots already existing in this title, rather than dwell on Die by an Ulcer.

And I do love that Dazzler is being supportive of Pixie. That doesn't change that fact that the drug innuendo is still there and it is blatant. Sure. The drug innuendo is there. I won't deny that. But all this crackrocks on "Dazzler is irresponsible!" "OMG this is escandalo!" is way out of proportion.
In the context of the scene, Dazzler was giving Pixie a pep-talk and giving her a reason to celebrate her gift. Yeah, sure, it's a drug anvil (as Vash would say in his Dazzler reviews!), but Dazzler's power-set can basically (and has on-panel) done the same thing already.
