Not really since he's a different colour in literally every appearance
And you prove his point for him, Brett.

No, again, not really. I'm just stating a fact - he's never colored consitently. No different to the fact that Beast and Nightcrawler and Monet and whoever else are different shades under different colorists. Implying that the people who dislike the way artists keep messing him/the arm up, are actually just petty and irrational to the point they'd complain about any little thing like the coloring is something I take issue with.
But what's CBR without it's Anole/New X-Men fan scapegoats eh?

Well, some of you guys do bitch about silly shit quite often--you in particular--but feel free to play the victim. I'd hate to stand in your way.

Also, bitching about Anole's various shades of light green is a little different than people complaining about a woman of color consistently being portrayed as caucasian.

Again with the "you guys"! But atleast you have the guts to imply that I am one of the worst! I do complain about that arm alot, but other than that I'd like to know what the "silly shit" that I "bitch about" "quite often" is?! I don't even post that much these days...

No-one bitched about his different shades!! Eye in the Sky's "joke" implied that that is the sort of thing Anole fans complain about and I was combatting it! His arm being the size of the Hulk is obviously something a fan is going to take issue with - why should that equal pettyness to the point of complaining about a color tone? You yourself said of #6 "he looks great except for that arm - that shit has to go!" Does that make you a whiner? Would you complain about his shade of green? No.

No, you're right that you don't really post (or bitch) much anymore, but the point is that you guys aren't scapegoats. It's not as bad now, but in the past New X-Men threads were often filled with bitching over minutia--stuff like Anole's shade of light green being off. I just thought his joke was funny because there was some truth to it.

I know. I just wanted to point out that it is different with Monet.

Eh, if he doesn't want whiny then a comic book forum isn't the best place to be...
Anyway I think "whining" about the arm, something that defines so much of his look is perfectly justified.
At least you have the guts to admit you whine. That takes balls. Well done kid.

ugh
why do people's "jokes" just come off as
unneeded
I don't think fretting over mischaracterization is something as petty
as the coloring of a book is

'cos more often than not it ends up like this

And my point is, the past is the past. We're not allowed to be happy that his arm looks good without someone popping up and making fun of us? Plus I think people should be able to come here and "bitch" about anything they want anyway and don't see why it bothers people so much but there you go.
It's not like everyone else doesn't do it about something or other, but it just seems to be NXM/Anole related stuff that gets these responses hence the feeling of scapegoat...ish...ness. But maybe I just miss alot of the other stuff that goes on. It's not a nice place for me, and others, alot of the time that's for sure. And is it deserved? Really...no.
I know. I just wanted to point out that it is different with Monet.
Yeah, that situation is pretty sucky.
At least you have the guts to admit you whine. That takes balls. Well done kid.
Hey, I whine, I moan. I do it alot. Here, at work...it's what I do. But there's a difference between whining/complaining and bitching. And I wouldn't whine if it wasn't important to me (hence the fact the coloring "joke", in response to us being happy about how the arm looked irked me so). It's no-one elses place to judge what I, or anyone else here whines about, if it means something to them. That's all. *shrug*

The reason people rag on you fans for complaining about stuff like this is b/c it's an odd complaint. Every character that has lasted through the years has a different look under each artist. It's artistic license, as long as they don't draw a green dragon can all it Anole it really doesn't matter. Coming out and bitching and complaining like this makes you sound pathetic, yes we know, we all liked Skottie Young's version the best, you know what, I loved David Finch's Ultimate X-Men take better than anyone elses. I didn't email Paquette and whine and cry to him b/c he didn't draw my favorites like I wanted.
Stop crying.

Yikes!
It never ruins my day to see a character drawn differently. i think it is good when artists add their own mark. While i have not warmed up to the Anole rendering in the last issue, it has not ruined my reading experience by any means. Why on earth should it?
That being said.....i feel grateful when Anole's arm is drawn more proportionate. For those artists who have.....You have my gratitude! :)

it really doesn't matter.
And there we have it. It doesn't matter to you. So that gives you the right to ridicule and throw out insults? Call it, artistic license all you like, I call it lazy. It's a simple matter or proportions. You don't see Kitty Pryde walking around with an upper arm three times the size of her head when she was never designed with one. But it doesn't matter to you so why waste your time complaining about people complaining about it?

No-one's crying. Forums like this exist for the fans to express their opinions. End of the day, you're not big and bad...you're just not very nice words on a screen. Stop trying so hard.

There is nothing wrong w/ the way your character is drawn. It doesn't matter at all, it's a petty, petty, petty thing to complain out, it's like saying Jean has shoulder lenght hair when it's really just suppose to be below her armpits. Having to scroll past posts like that day after day after day and have people think they are valid complaints is mind numbing. Seriously, I sawed off 3 toes after reading this thread. You aren't the first fans to have their favs drawn a different way, why is it such a big deal to you?

Brett it's real funny to me that you complain about how other artists draw the characters while praising Skottie Young's, didn't he completely redesign the kids? What makes his version the CORRECT version? It just comes off a bit hypocritical and whiny when you keep praising Skottie's, which were great, then trash everyone elses.

No, no, no. (see further answer)

Then as said before, comic book forums might not be the best place for you. Or your sanity apparently.
You aren't the first fans to have their favs drawn a different way, why is it such a big deal to you?
Why is it such a big deal to you that it's a big deal to me? It's quite simple really - Anole was designed to be an aglity/stealth based character - a lithe, skittery lizard-like guy. That is what drew me to him, just as I was drawn to Nightcrawler years ago. The new arm took away from that a little, but Skottie designed it in such a way that it still worked with his mutation and would still allow for acrobatics and wall crawling.
So seeing him standing there with this monstrosity that is wider than his body just totally destroys that and completely takes away from one of the main things I like about him. And this is what no-one seems to get. Plus every recent appearance is what the next "quick fix" artist is going to look at when they draw their version. It's not a petty complaint at all.
I'm not very nice in person either if that makes you feel better, it's not an act.
Evidently. I just added the "on a screen" to put it into perspective.

Anole didn't have that arm before Skottie drew him. It happened during his run. He designed it. And I believe that arm under certain other artists is all I'm comlaining about.

You're missing the point. Skottie made changes to the other characters during his run too. What makes those changes acceptable, but other artist's changes to Anole's arm lazy?

Characters change all the time though. Anole needs to concentrate on his training and bulk up a little. He should be able to use a high protein intake to increase his muscle mass so his arm is in proportion with the rest of him.

What did he change exactly? Drawing them in his style isn't the same as completely changing them. Granted, he gave Hellion a horrible new haircut, and Wolf Cub a questionable makeover but neither of those conflicted with the characters powerset. Other than that it was just costume touch ups. He also gave Pixie back the eyes she was designed with. All of the changes he made with the characters in mind. He rang Yost up to ask about their personalities (this is why we got Sawyer hair Hellion), he did blogs that spoke at length abot his thought process going into the characters design. He understood them. This is why Anole's arm was not more than twice the size it previously was when he designed it.
What makes those changes acceptable, but other artist's changes to Anole's arm lazy?
The hilarious thing is...this has all risen from me PRAISING Yardins rendition of Anole's arm...
Drawing an agility/stealth based lizard character with an arm the size and appearance of a small mountain is lazy.

...
...
The only reason his arm is currently so out of proportion is because of the way it was drawn in #6! So what, you're saying, screw the way he's supposed to look, screw his agility powers, let's stick him on a high protein intake just so the artists can keep drawing it so grotesquely wrong? What reason can you come up with to describe why the shoulder and elbow spikes have become a mass of lumpy protrusions all over the arm?
I'll just have to hope that future artists are on the ball like Yardin.

I think that's the "explosive" tattoo of his. He supposedly took down a wall with it a little while before the series started. We haven't seen it in use yet. I don't think it's been colored yellow like that before, usually just black ink on skin.
