Just wondering if anyone can comment on whether Powers, the issues by Bendis (20 something to 37 I believe), is a good read or not? Thanks.

Bendis has written every issue of Powers....save the issue where he drew the story and the artist Mike Oeming wrote it.

I've always thought it was good stuff. I'm a bit behind on my reading of the series, but it was always an enjoyable mix of cop drama and super-heroes.

Thanks for your thoughts....I guess I'll find out in about 9 days....I just won issues 22 through 37 over on Hebay for $9.99. I guess not a bad price to see how good the title was.

Thanks again for your opinion and the info on Bendis writing every issue.

Buy the earlier issues, too. They're all by Bendis and they're all good to great. Save the ones you just bought and read them in order.

I like the series, though I definitely think it reads better as a trade than as single issues. The newer stuff isn't working for me as well as the first few arcs, but by the time you get caught up, you'll probably be hooked, anyway.

Definitly. It isn't one of those titles I'd be able to read monthly. I'd be tearing my hair out, while in trade it becomes a proper read. Really good series.

Phenomenal series. I am still missing the stuff between the first hardcover and the Icon series but it's reallya top-drawer series. I kind of wish that Bendis would leave mediocre bores like Secret Invasion and focus more on books like Alias or Powers where he's really in his element (I would actually include Ultimate Spidey in there, by the way). He's one of the best comic writers out there, I just wish he'd show his true potential more.

I know that people haven't been too wild about the newer stuff but I thinkk it's always good. The current arc, which seems to be taking a decade to come out, is especially great and really, really emotionally charged.

As for the trade vs issues question, well, this is a tough one for me. I really love getting the issues because of all the fun material in the back and it would probably read really well in issues if it came out on a regular monthly basis. As it is though, it does come out once in a blue moon so trades or reading the issues in chunks, arc by arc, is probably the best way to go.

If you are a fan of Bendis style of condensed story telling coupled with Mike Omeing artwork than yes this book is awesome. While I love Bendis, Mike Omeing work not my cup of tea so I passed on it. Nothing against Mike personally, his work just doesn't grab me but he does have a lot of fans so good for him.

I dug it. I have all the Image issues and the Icon issues. But it does read really good in large chunks. My only complaint with the book is it's sporadic release. Not sure how often the new issues come out, but it's a really good read.
