View Full Version : Left handed Marvel Characters

I have been arguing with a friend of mine about this. Which Marvel characters are left handed? Specifically Avengers.
I'm left handed so I like to imagine that Cap & Hawkeye are also. My friend is biased against left handed people so he claims the only left handed characters are villains, Peter Henry Gyrich, nonhuman characters such as Jocasta, Avengers mansion support staff or Dr. Druid.
I guess we could get the old Avengers annuals where they would play baseball against the WCA but I thought maybe someone here would have an opinion.

That made me laugh. There must be a list somewhere but the google machine won't work right today to help me find it. I think I'l have to resort to searching archived usenet posts.
I'm seriously going to start paying attention as I read, and I'll keep posting as I see on this thread!
as a fellow lefty, I would also be interested to know such characters! ;)

Boomerang is ambidextrous, if that counts.

Professor Hulk is left-handed, as noted during the Jenkins run.

Which was a retcon, as the Merged Hulk was drawn as a righty during PAD's run.

Taskmaster says that Deadpool favors his left hand for shooting guns, as well as the fact that he always dodges left instead of right.

Oddly, you picked two of the few characters who are demonstrably not left handed. Generally (except when artists forget), Cap wears the shield on his left arm so he can throw it with his right. Same thing with Hawkeye, 99/100, he's going to be firing his bow right handed.

I think most of the genious/world class martial artist types are going to be ambidextrous through training if not talent.
As for most others, probably depends on what the artist thinks is cool, even if you just limit evidence to things like which hand the character uses to write I doubt there's much consistancy.

I don't know who posted this (for all I know, it was in a letters column) but I remember someone discussing it years ago when Jenkins had mentioned it, and so he looked back on the David run trying to find evidence one way or another, and found that the Merged/Professor Hulk seemed ambidexterous. Okay, in all reality, the artist at the time probably just drew it any which way they wanted to.

No, I get that, and that was the rationale that Jenkins used. But the Merged Hulk persona (the one that Jenkins later termed "The Professor") was shown several times on panel to be right handed. I know this because, when Jenkins first stated this, I thought "what a cool use of continuity to explain his retcon of the Merged Hulk persona", and went back and checked. Sadly, it wasn't a use of continuity- it was just something Jenkins made up out of whole cloth.

Wouldn't this be a pretty major weakness? If he's fighting and someone swings a sword at him...oh wait, he's going to dodge left! And there goes his head.
As far as I'm aware, Deadpool can't survive decapitation.

Actually he can, he survived decapitation by wolverine in one of the later Cable & Deadpool issues.
Though Taskmaster's opinion is kinda irrelevant on how he dodges since he lost to deadpool his first fight (like it or not) specifically because he couldnt predict him.
FINALLY! Okay. Baron Zemo is left-handed.
