Deadpool has gone a long way. Created in the early 90s, now having a large "cult" following. His slap-stick humor, gun totting mentality, awesome costume, and fascinating history gave people something to crave for. Arguably, it can be said some of Spider-Man's writers wanted Spidey to be funnier like Deadpool (Spider-Man used to only have the occasional one-liners).

Deadpool is different from other characters. He's a mercenary, mentally insane, has a cool supporting cast (Daniel Way said they will return), interesting enemies, and more. But most importantly, the humor shown in Deadpool issues aren't replicated in any other series.

Does Deadpool have untapped potential? Deadpool now has his own series starting off with a bang (starting off with a Secret Invasion tie-in) and is going to have an appearance in Wolverine Origins by a famous actor (Ryan Reynolds). If written right, is Deadpool destined to be one of the most popular characters in Comics?

Most definitely. Just get Ryan to play the role in a solo film and make sure it doesn 't suck. Also embed him more deeply into the marvel universe.

And this may just please me but I would love it for cable to show up on ocassion.

haha trust me, you aren't alone. Cable and Deadpool might be one of the most ingenious team-ups ever.

I don't like Reynolds much for the role, although I don't doubt that he would do fine with the right script. He's got name draw, but his face would be hideously disfigured much of the time (assuming there's limited or no use of the image thing that Pool likes to employ at times, I always liked that he preferred his ugly mug as a merc to looking like a Hollywood hunk).

But yeah, either way, Deadpool is a money machine waiting to happen, the character just needs to be done properly.

Only people with an extremely limited knowledge of Spider-Man's publishing history.

Oh yeah most defenatly, he's one of the most awesome Marvel characters out there right now. Cable & Deadpool was one of my favorite series.

I can't wait for the movie. I've got a feeling Deadpool will get a lot of people's attention.

I am kind of wondering myself about Ryan Reynolds being masked. I just can't see a big-name actor like him having his face covered for the majority of the time. With that being said, I also hope they don't alter the costume too much. I don't see them going with his classic red and black, since they probably think it would look too cliche or ridiculous, for the big screen. Just take a look at the X-Men movies. I could see them going with something closer resembling Ultimate Deadpool or Weapon X Deadpool.

The teaser trailer that was shown earlier in the year had a brief glimpse of Deadpool - so he will look like this (for a portion of the movie at least):

(kind of SPOILERS I suppose)

Deadpool is much more popular than his "father" & "grandpa" - Deathstroke and Deadshot.

I actually think there isnt a better actor in Hollywood to play Deadpool than Reynolds. He has the build, and is known for being a wise-cracking one liner type of guy.

No on Cable...ever.

Deadpool has enormous untapped potential. Sadly i think Way is the last writer on earth to use his potential well.

You only need to be able to write funny stories to do DP well.

I hope his fame survives Way without damage.....

The movie i dont care about and Deadpool is my favorite character in marvel. Reynolds is just another lame actor in hollywood who thinks he is funny.

Did i say that ?

There are many better actors that are funny in hollywood.

Its Blade 3 fault, some director thought he was funny there...

I dont really care about the movie when they cant even do DP well in comics these days.

Before we found out who shot Captain America, a friend of mine suggested that it would be really interesting if Deadpool was the assassin.

They should do a What If....
