What titles are so important and/or so infused into the core of DC that they should always remain in publication without disruption, regardless of popularity? There are the old standards, like Batman, Detective Comics, and Action Comics, but how do you feel about the various Superman reboots and re-numberings over the years? Should Wonder Woman always be in publication? How about characters like Green Lantern and the Flash?

So which titles should always be on the stands, and is it okay to reboot or renumber them every now and again?

Let me make one last attempt at getting a discussion going by suggesting that Superman need not necessarily have two titles. I think giving him a second title made absolute sense back in the 1940s when he was the top selling comic character of all time, but when he was given a third monthly title post Crisis on Infinite Earth and again in the early 1990s, I got the sense that this was done more with the intent of creating Superman mania than with the intent of feeding it.

These days, both Action and Superman appear to be doing well and are well recieved, but I'm not sure the character automatically warrants two titles. After all, it gets hard to find riveting conflict for a nearly invulnerable hero month after month.

Batman, on the other hand, has been almost consistantly popular since the mid-1960s. I think both Batman and Detective need to be permanant fixtures.

Hey, if they're of a high standard, I don't really care how many books Superman or Batman have. I would however, prefer that they're kept relatively seperate so that you're not forced to read both when one of them isn't exactly firing on all cylinders. Which is why I'm a bit annoyed about this major Superman crossover coming up. I've hated what I've read of Robinson's Superman so far and have no real interest in this version of Supergirl so I'm not mad about the idea of the excellent Action Comics being pulled in with the other two.
