I have a question about DBZ. IN the DBZ franchise, what is considered canon, and why?

At made the manga, and I believe Toei has rights to the anime, but do they share the same canon, and why not?

The original manga; Dragonball and Dragonball Z. Anything after that Toriyama wasn't involved with.

Do DBZ the manga and anime share the same canon? I've heard that the anime is non canon, especially because of the filler episodes.

Generally, the filler isn't considered cannon but the parts that happened in the manga are. Although the filler doesn't really contradict the manga (that I know of) so it doesn't really matter. The anime pretty much follows the manga, it just adds draws everything out and adds pointless stuff to take up episodes. Most people just consider the anime cannon since it's more popular and doesn't really contradict the manga.

The main thing is that the movies ARE NOT cannon. Except the first one. Kind of. But not really.
