I didn't read the Starjammers Mini, but was there any reason stated as to why Vulcna has decided to keep Havok, Polaris, Rachel, etc. as prisioners?
I just find it odd that in the past, he has been portrayed as a ruthless killer with no regard for human life, yet here he is keeping multiple prisoners despite thier past altercations.
Any info is appreciated. Thanks.

He wants to brutally torture them mentally and physically until they break.
He supposedly goes a bit crazy well crazier in Kingbreaker because his failure to break them according to Yost

For once in her life, Rachel wasn't the one captured. LOLA!
He's keeping the other Starjammers (Alex, Lorna, Ch'od, Raza... um, Cr+eee & Sikorsky?) alive to torture them/gloat. Pretty typical arch-mega-supervillain mistake, but then flatly typical and predictable pretty much describes Vulcan to a tee. When your main character motivation is EVOL-VENGEANCE then you know we're in for trouble... just go with it, and pray for an ending this time.

I was praying for an ending last time... and the time before that... and the time before THAT... We all know Kingbreaker can't have a good ending because War of Kings coming up after Kingbreaker... Why does marvel feel the need to force this sh*tty character on us over and over and over and over and over again?

Did Rachel escape with Korvus? Is she doing anything to rescue the others?

Well Vulcan's tantrum can go on forever as far as I'm concerned, so long as Alex/Lorna/Rachel are shunted back Earthward at Kingbreaker's conclusion.

Yeah, Ray kicked the shit outta Galdiator, then saved her pathetic boyfriend and flew off. Supposedly they've hooked up with Lilandra and what's left of their resistance (which might literally be just the 3 of them).

Everyone knows that if you really want to make someone suffer, you keep them alive.
Please don't mistake that fact for 'humanity' on Vulcan's side.

I expect Vulcan has been going all out to try to emotionally, physically, and mentally destory Havok and Lorna the past few months and will continue to try to do just that for the first few issues of this series.

Well, it can end a bit better than "horribly bad"... I think it will be Rachel Korvusand taking the others outof the planet prision

Considering his backstory I would and prior actions I'd have to say that the only humanity Gabe has in this instance is that he just happens to be human... The rest is pure, untamed vengeance; an animal if you will. He wants everyone to suffer, whether it be death or prolonged torture. Family members being included in such actions just makes it all the more sweeter.
I wouldn't mind if Rachel lost all of her newfound Phoenix (echo) abilities taking Vulcan out in a final coup de grace. That would be niiiiiiiiiiiiioce.

Vulcan' humanity is something I wish would be explored, since I liked him better when he was just angry and a little insane, rather than some conquering tyrant.
It doesn't sound like Vulcan is keeping Alex alive just to torture him (the others may be a different story), but he wants to break Alex for some reason. It could be he wants Alex to admit Vulcan is right, or to join him or just for the sake of breaking him, but I hope there's a deeper element to it.
Vulcan is a mentally a 15/16 year old kid who's never had a family, and has no idea about the human concept of love and compassion. He's crazy, but he wasn't that crazy when Moira took him in. I'd rather he have some humanity left rather than him being just completely devoid of any emotion other than rage and hate.
