After succumbing to the recommendations of many, I purchased Blade of The Immortal: Blood of A Thousand.

Now is it just me or does anyone else think it's absolutely dreadful? It's rare that I never get to the end of something I'm reading but last night I finally tossed it to the side. It is utterly incoherent, is this down to a bad translation? Does it get any better? What is all the fuss about?

Believe it or not, that Blood of a Thousand was JUST only the beginning.

The story gets more complicated and more violent, and even more gory.

Which makes it all the more fun to read.

IF this isn't your cup o' tea, then maybe try reading LONE WOLF & CUB.
That's a bit more serious and sober than Blade ...

I noticed that it went on for a few volumes more, although after what I've read, I fail to comprehend why? I'm not averse to gory tales, it's just that I couldn't understand the critical acclaim for something that read like it had been translated using a Japanese to English dictionary and a foodmixer.

I'm not sure what you're finding incomprehensible. Seemed pretty easy to follow to me... it's not a complex story.

I believe it's just you. The series is simply amazing....for at least the first...6 volumes.

Did you read it monthly? As a tpb reader I got lost lost somewhere near 10 or later. I feel like following all the side character and shoving the main three basically out of the book was a problem.

At some point I'm going to have to reread the first 13 volumes (or however many I have) so I can start back to reading what was at one time my fav manga being published.

I haven't read much of the series, only the first eight volumes or so but I love the artwork and the story is pretty good.

I like it.

I didnt like it all that much either.
It wasnt the story but more the artwork that I didnt like.
I usually pick uop books for art and a only ocassionally will get a book for the writer.
If a book has bad art it has to have and AMAZING story to really keep me interested.

The art took time for me to get used to and initially I didn't like how scratchy and incoherent it seemed ... but I was used to a cleaner, leaner visual style and what's-his-name surprised me by getting a cleaner grasp of lay-out and visual story-telling. There's a few chambara sequences that got old but the story is pretty cool for the first six volumes. I haven't followed it much since but my brother and I followed it for a while. I actually prefer it to Lone Wolf & Cub, to be honest. It's more fun.

I honestly have no idea how the story could confuse anyone unless you were reading it backwards.

Yeah, the series is extremely straightforward and coherent.
