Titans #4- spoilers

wasnt the best, wasnt the worst, the art could have been so much better and I wish judd would take this title to another level. The whole family thing was nice to see. But it was a quick read in my opinion

ok a little more detail

My BIGGEST complaint is that the story lacked any pacing, build-up or sense of impending danger. It was like a romp. With demons.
It's sorta dumb that 3 of the 7 deadly sins are wielded, but the end result is "opponent A fights opponent B after being overcome by X emotion"... why not have them all possess wrath powers then?

It's silly that Raven can (apparently) wield all of the 7 deadly sins at her choosing (new news to any fan of the character of the past 28 years, btw).... but that her half-brothers only can manage one each. Not to mention the 7 Deadly Sins are a Christian belief extrapolated from scripture.

The Envy power is hard to make formidable in a fight. And, actually, pitting 8 experienced heroes against 3 sorta-stupid emotion warping half demons? It should be no contest.

They should have given the Sons of Trigon better powers and abilities. The fight is pretty silly, with 3 half-demons warping emotions while the other characters just seemingly stand around and make glib jokes.

Based on the preview pages I've seen, this issue looks every bit as bad as the previous three. How much longer will Winick and Benitez be allowed to keep running this once-proud franchise into the ground?

or maybe it's more accurate to give it an "incomplete" since I couldn't get all the way thru this clusterF.

(really. . PAGES of the Titans standing there going "there's THREE of them?". . . . .sheesh, and it only got worse from there).

Why don't more people like thius series? What are the artists/writers doing wrong?

I love the art in this issue. It looks distinct from the normal super crisp and bright styles. It is more sketchy without being crappy (like The Dark Knight Returns*). I love the story too. This is on my weekly pull list.


*I love the story of TDKR, but I hate the art. Some do not, and I respect that.

I like the art actually. Now Winick, I still can't figure out why he's so favored at DC. Unless there is a Winick on one of the 52 Earths that is good and they are confusing the two.

Oh man, look the black guy demon got Rage/Wrath.. My how original. It's not like the Angry Black guy persona hasn't been done to death. Oh look and he bosses the other two around, thats totally new, especially since he failed to see the trick Raven apparently had worked out all along. :rolleyes:

Right and can someone please tell me why these supposedly very crafty brothers who were getting the best of the Titans already, all of a sudden became idiots. I mean Envy is the most powerful of the brothers and became the one person who could have killed every Titan with little or no effort.. yet, because Starfire says shop around, he obviously does it? Right.. I'm a villain and im going to listen to the good guys.. :mad:

This is just the worst part about it, the boys through all that scheming never realize that father dearest is extremely weak and that they aren't getting much power from him? Also the thing with Beast Boy? I totally called that like 4 or 5 months ago, when I made a gay joke about him and Trigon.

If all this wasn't bad enough, the fact that the next issue is called Date Night and Raven and Beast Boy are on the cover doesn't make you roll your eyes in disgust/agony then you are a glutton for punishment. :tongue:

Yes, that issue is being totally re-written. (From what I understand the Dick/Kory part of the story was totally written out...

I think their interactions so far have been interesting. I'll withhold judgment on "cool"



Overall, I liked the issue. I wish the fight with the three brother could have been drug out over more space, because I was disappointed at how short it was. I also thought that the powers were interesting: especially envy. There have been plenty of comic book characters, especially villains who could take the heroes' own powers, but one that can absorb what you desire? That's original. I think was was well scripted, as the greed began to overcome the bad guys, they were trying for more; hence, Envy switching to another power set, to try to get better powers. Greed makes people let go of what they have for the promise of more.

While I certainly don't think it's perfect, I think it is a lot better than the credit and reviews it gets. If only I could believe that Winick will continue this work the way it has started, rather than follow his track record.
