I just did these concept design sketches for a small studio. They were pitching two movies, and have a 10 million dollar budget to make their scifi film. One of the pitches is moving forward into production.

Here's the question: My wife thinks I charged too little for these drawings. To be honest, I was so happy to get some work, I wasn't even thinking of the amount I was being paid (I haven't gotten many freelance gigs lately - so I'd probably "work for food").

If anyone has any idea, how much do you think one gets for this type of work (for future reference. I'm happy that I was actually paid, and they were great to work with, so I'm actually just curious, so is my wife).

They probably took me on average 2 hours to do each, so total I worked about 24 hours. Here are the main drawings I did, there were a few really sketchy alien drawings, or revisions, which I gave them, but they were very quick to do.

My basic rule is you charge what you are comfortable charging and the client is ok with.

A rate per hour is good. I usually don't like flat amounts for jobs. Because there are always revision rounds that add time to the project. I tend to charge a range depending on the project and the amount of work.

Sure you might have been able to charged more. But if you are fine with what you got, then all the better.

Great work CG! I am so glad to see a thread like this so I can pose a question on rates as well.

I am writting a play. I have Act I completed and ACT II almost done. The plot is complete. I look to pitch this play to the Rutherford Community Theater (RCT) in about 45 days and here is a question.

"If They are receptive and want to move forward (Chances look good from the synopsis I turned in), I would be intrested in a Marquee' design with the title on said design. Since it is a travel troupe the dates and locale would change and we could do something clever with that.....So here is the concept in a nutshell"

Boy and Girl raised together in the South (70's/80's), seperated at 7ish, rejoined together 20 years later (today)in New York, she rejects him at first because of her wealth and social standing, but he has pursued their childhood dream where he has come to Broadway where he had visions of writting and she as an actress. His dreams realized her's not....but has the city changed her so much that she no longers feel any bond they shared as inseperable children?, or has his sudden appearance stirred her and made her desire to act instead of watch the stage?

i would take your finished art and make prints with dates and locale. Your talents need to be rewarded and you acknowledged as the artist so please sign your work. Now, if you were intrested in a rate reduction and recognized via contact info/website/email address on the program I am receptive of that (as the sound guy, newspaper, and musicians do this at times)

Feel free to respond to this publicly CG as other writers may have an intrest in this as well in their story pitches....so who knows more work/pay could come your way.
