View Full Version : The HOUSE of HORRORS!!!!!

So, tell me, and everyone....
What horrifies you? Beyond all reason, and rationale, and logic, what makes you get all...well, horrified?
Personally, I get horrified when people smack their food or chew loudly. It makes me want to knife chop people in the neck. I've learned over the years to, basically, maintain my composure, but, inside, I'm a seething mass of hatred.
I'm horrified when someone is talking behind someone's back when the person is within earshot, or could be. I feel an almost irrepressible urge to escape. For some reason, I'm regularly around people who feel the need to comment negatively or mock others when the person could hear and be hurt or angered. I just don't want to get in the shit-storm, so I do all my smack talking in locked rooms in hushed whispers.
So, tell me now, or I'll kill you.

People who drive fast through parking lots.
People talk on their cell phones during movies.
And killer robots. But only when they're not under my control.

People who drive fast through parking lots.
Agreed.
People talk on their cell phones during movies.
I'll one up you, and tell you that I can't handle ANY sound during movies. I'm highly sensitive to noise, so even popcorn shifting nearby makes me want to scream.
And killer robots. But only when they're not under my control.
Oh, I am SO with you on that one.

I dunno, I find the atomic zombiemen kinda....sexy.
All that incredibly destructive power wrapped in a crispy flakey rotting husk?

Don't be ashamed! Just do it!
If there's zombies, of the atomic variety or otherwise, I'm all over it. ;)

Then I shall fire away.
It's your basic zombie meets mad scientist love story. Girl meets ghoul. Plus...the fighting of bad guys. I'm not even joking.

people that take their kids to movies that aren't marketed to kids. well, if they're quiet, it's ok, but that's usually not the case.

You know, normally, I could care less about cursing, but I am always a bit amazed at some of the dumbshit things people will say even when little kids are right next to them. Ditto some of the dumbshit bumper stickers I've seen.

Remind me never to get on the wrong side of Dazzler.
And on that note what makes me want to kill the entire human race is that we do nothing while others suffer, usually for our benefit.

I don't know if this what you mean, but I have a serious phobia when it comes to insects.
I'm afraid of very, very little in life. But some tiny little creature can make me squeal in fear. There was a large fly in my house the other night, and because I saw it up close, I couldn't bring myself to either capture it or kill it. I was paralyzed.
I can watch the goriest, most brutal movies. But if there's an insect, I cover my eyes. It's totally irrational.
Ironically, that's why I don't kill spiders or those horrific house centipedes. I know they kill other bugs, so they are the enemy of my enemy. They terrify me, but I have to live with them, or things would be worse.
So, that's what horrifies me.

The cover to the book Communion has scared me since I was a little kid. I thought my mom had ditched it in a yard sale, but nope, I was going through a box and there it was. Of course, I had picked it up while the cover was facing down, which meant I had the misfortune to *shudder* touch it. I dropped it like it had burnt me and then went back upstairs to try to pull myself together.
Here it is, for those of you curious as to what could frighten me so badly:

Agreed! It almost makes me tick and snap. Also, due to my job I have the same thing when it comes to phones.
Maggots. They make me want to throw up. Little girl ghosts.

I hate the sound of smacking as well. This guy kept buttering his bagels and every time he'd be done with one slice he'd put his finger into his mouth and go *SMACK* yesterday, he did this 10 times! I couldn't run away cause I was waiting on the toaster to get mine done. RHHAAAAAAA!!!!!! D:<

I used to have nightmares about several different chapters there. Well, not really nightmares. Those weird half-sleep hypnogogic incidents like sleep paralysis where it feels like someone's in the room with you. I tend to be a little suggestible during those periods.

I think to be horrified one needs to have some level of moral revulsion in the reaction as well. We may be disgusted at a sloppy, noisy eater, but that's an aesthetic reaction. I'm scared of spiders, but again that's a purely visceral reaction since intellectually I know they're really no different from insects and other creepy-crawlies.
Torture horrifies me.

That sort of thing happens to me, too. It makes me more sympathetic to the people who claim alien abduction: I'm able to realize the difference, but I can see how easy it would be not to.

I actually "saw" something looming over me once, but the paralysis broke and I stood up and put my hand through it and it disappeared. Mind you, this was after about three hours sleep after being up for about 36 hours, so my mind was a bit wonky to begin with.

Sharks.
Oddly enough, Jaws is one of my favorite movies, but it scares me every time I see it, and i've seen it a gajillion times. I can barely walk around Manhattan when Discovery Channel has Shark Week though, because there's a shark on the side of every bus.

I'm frightened by the irrational, the illogical, the superstitious, and the absurd, and also how people may fall prey to, as H. L. Mencken put it, "the irresistible reasonableness of the nonsensical."
The idea of not being able to reason with someone just freaks the bejebus out of me.
I guess by extension I'm also frightened by extremists and fundamentalists of all kinds.

Yeah, they get to me too. They have since I was a kid. But I am also fascinated by them. I really should have turned out to be a chaser. But I guess I was too lazy.
