Post the lyrics and video(if possible) of what you think would be the best theme song for Final Crisis, both in lyrics and in tone.

My personal pick is The Grudge by Tool. Here is the video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=P1Yl90bvVnk

(Yes, it's a long song. Listen when you have the time.)

And here are the lyrics:

Wear the grudge like a crown
Of negativity
Calculate what you will
Will not tolerate
Desperate to control
All and everything
Unable to forgive
Your scarlet letterman

Clutch it like a cornerstone
Otherwise it all comes down
Justify denials and
Grip 'em to the lonesome end

Clutch it like a cornerstone
Otherwise it all comes down
Terrified of being wrong
Ultimatum prison cell

Saturn ascends
Choose one or ten
Hang on or be
Humbled again
Humbled again

Clutch it like a cornerstone
Otherwise it all comes down
Justify denials and
Grip 'em to the lonesome end

Saturn ascends
Comes 'round again
Saturn ascends
The one, the ten
Ignorant to
The damage done

Wear the grudge like a crown
Of negativity
Calculate what you will
Will not tolerate
Desperate to control
All and everything
Unable to forgive
Your scarlet letterman

Wear the grudge like a crown
Desperate to control
Unable to forgive
And sinking deeper

Defining
Confining
Sinking deeper

Controlling
Defining
And we're sinking deeper

Saturn comes back around
To show you everything
Lets you choose what you will
Will not see and then
Drags you down like a stone
Or lifts you up again
Spits you out like a child
Light and innocent

Saturn comes back around
Lifts you up like a child
Or drags you down like a stone
To consume you 'til you
Choose to
Let this go
Choose to
Let this go

Give away the stone
Let the ocean take and transmutate
This cold and fated anchor
Give away the stone
Let the waters kiss and transmutate
These leaden grudges into gold
(gold... gold... gold... gold... gold...
gold... gold... gold... gold...)

Let go

Let go
Let go
Let go
Let go
Let go
Let go
Let go
Let go
Let go
Let go
Let go
Let go
Let go
Let go
Let go
Let go
Let go
Let go
Let go
Let go
Let go
Let go
Let go
Let go
Let go
Let go
Let go
Let go
Let go
Let go
Let go
Let go

What do you think? Have a better one?

This is the best one for the end of the world.

Mad World by Gary Jules http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KL0rHIBYlY0

All around me are familiar faces
Worn out places, Worn out faces
Bright and early for the daily races
Going nowhere, Going nowhere
Their tears are filling up their glasses
No expression, No expression
Hide my head I want to drown my sorrow
No tomorrow, No tomorrow

Chorus
And I find it kind of funny, I find it kind of sad
These dreams in which i'm dying, Are the best I’ve ever had
I find it hard to tell you, I find it hard to take
When people run in circles it’s a very very….
Mad World, Mad World

Verse 2
Children waiting for the day they feel good
Happy Birthday, Happy Birthday
And they feel the way that every child should
Sit and listen, Sit and listen
Went to school and I was very nervous
No one knew me, No one knew me
Hello teacher tell me whats my lesson
Look right through me, Look right through me

Chorus
And I find it kind of funny, I find it kind of sad
These dreams in which i'm dying, Are the best I’ve ever had
I find it hard to tell you, I find it hard to take
When people run in circles it’s a very very….

As much as I dislike that song, I can definitely see it being played at Martian Manhunter's funeral.

Forget that, I'd use it as the theme for Last Will and Testement.

"Ball of Confusion" by the Temptations

1, 2... 1, 2, 3, 4, Ow!
People moving out, people moving in. Why, because of the color of their skin.
Run, run, run but you sure can't hide. An eye for an eye, a tooth for a tooth.
Vote for me and I'll set you free. Rap on, brother, rap on.
Well, the only person talking about love thy brother is the...(preacher.)
And it seems nobody's interested in learning but the...(teacher.)
Segregation, determination, demonstration, integration, Aggravation, humiliation, obligation to our nation.
Ball of confusion. Oh yeah, that's what the world is today. Woo, hey, hey.

The sale of pills are at an all time high.
Young folks walking round with their heads in the sky.
The cities ablaze in the summer time.
And oh, the beat goes on.

Evolution, revolution, gun control, sound of soul.
Shooting rockets to the moon, kids growing up too soon.
Politicians say more taxes will solve everything.

And the band played on.
So, round and around and around we go.
Where the world's headed, nobody knows.

Oh, great GoogaMooga, can't you hear me talking to you.
Just a ball of confusion.
Oh yeah, that's what the world is today.
Woo, hey, hey.

Fear in the air, tension everywhere.
Unemployment rising fast, the Beatles new record's a gas.

And the only safe place to live is on an Indian reservation.

And the band played on.
Eve of destruction, tax deduction, city inspectors, bill collectors,
Mod clothes in demand, population out of hand, suicide, too many bills,
Hippies moving to the hills. People all over the world are shouting, 'End the war.'

And the band played on.

Great GoogaMooga, can't you hear me talking to you.
Sayin'... ball of confusion.
That's what the world is today, hey, hey.
Let me hear ya, let me hear ya, let me hear ya.
Sayin'... ball of confusion.
That's what the world is today, hey, hey.
Let me hear ya, let me hear ya, let me hear ya, let me hear ya, let me hear ya.
Sayin'... ball of confusion.

If the Joker has a part in FC, then this would be my theme for it.

I can't decide- Scissor Sisters http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tbfs5w8lSBo
It's not easy having yourself a good time
Greasing up those bets and betters
Watching out they don't four-letter
If I can kiss you both at the same time
Smells-like something I've forgotten
Curled up died and now it's rotten

I'm not a gangster tonight
Don't want to be a bad guy
I'm just a loner baby
And now you're gotten in my way

I can't decide
Whether you should live or die
Oh, you'll probably go to heaven
Please don't hang your head and cry
No wonder why
My heart feels dead inside
It's cold and hard and petrified
Lock the doors and close the blinds
We're going for a ride

It's a bitch convincing people to like you
If I stop now call me a quitter
If lies were cats you'd be a litter
Pleasing everyone isn't like you
Dancing jigs until I'm crippled
Slug ten drinks I won't get pickled

I've got to hand it to you
You've played by all the same rules
It takes the truth to fool me
And now you've made me angry

I can't decide
Whether you should live or die
Oh, you'll probably go to heaven
Please don't hang your head and cry
No wonder why
My heart feels dead inside
It's cold and hard and petrified
Lock the doors and close the blinds
We're going for a ride

Oh I could throw you in the lake
Or feed you poisoned birthday cake
I wont deny I'm gonna miss you when you're gone
Oh I could bury you alive
But you might crawl out with a knife
And kill me when I'm sleeping
That's why

I can't decide
Whether you should live or die
Oh, you'll probably go to heaven
Please don't hang your head and cry
No wonder why
My heart feels dead inside
It's cold and hard and petrified
Lock the doors and close the blinds
We're going for a ride

The that men do by Iron maiden
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pMrVi7612XE

Love is a razor and I walked the line on that silver blade
Slept in the dust with his daughter, her eyes red with
The slaughter of innocence
But I will pray for her
I will call her name out loud
I would bleed for her
If only I could see her now

Living on a razors edge
Balancing on a ledge
Living on a razors edge

The evil that men do lives on and on.....
The evil that men do lives on and on.....
The evil that men do lives on and on.....
The evil that men do lives on and on.....

Circle of fire my baptism of joy at an end it seems
The seventh lamb slain, the book of life opens before me
But I will pray for you
And some day I may return
Don't you cry for me
Beyond is where I learn

"Sympathy for the Devil" by The Rolling Stones for FC#1 (because it's my favorite song of all time)

Please allow me to introduce myself
Im a man of wealth and taste
Ive been around for a long, long year
Stole many a mans soul and faith
And I was round when jesus christ
Had his moment of doubt and pain
Made damn sure that pilate
Washed his hands and sealed his fate
Pleased to meet you
Hope you guess my name
But whats puzzling you
Is the nature of my game
I stuck around st. petersburg
When I saw it was a time for a change
Killed the czar and his ministers
Anastasia screamed in vain
I rode a tank
Held a generals rank
When the blitzkrieg raged
And the bodies stank
Pleased to meet you
Hope you guess my name, oh yeah
Ah, whats puzzling you
Is the nature of my game, oh yeah
I watched with glee
While your kings and queens
Fought for ten decades
For the gods they made
I shouted out,
Who killed the kennedys?
When after all
It was you and me
Let me please introduce myself
Im a man of wealth and taste
And I laid traps for troubadours
Who get killed before they reached bombay
Pleased to meet you
Hope you guessed my name, oh yeah
But whats puzzling you
Is the nature of my game, oh yeah, get down, baby
Pleased to meet you
Hope you guessed my name, oh yeah
But whats confusing you
Is just the nature of my game
Just as every cop is a criminal
And all the sinners saints
As heads is tails
Just call me lucifer
cause Im in need of some restraint
So if you meet me
Have some courtesy
Have some sympathy, and some taste
Use all your well-learned politesse
Or Ill lay your soul to waste, um yeah
Pleased to meet you
Hope you guessed my name, um yeah
But whats puzzling you
Is the nature of my game, um mean it, get down
Woo, who
Oh yeah, get on down
Oh yeah
Oh yeah!
Tell me baby, whats my name
Tell me honey, can ya guess my name
Tell me baby, whats my name
I tell you one time, youre to blame
Ooo, who
Ooo, who
Ooo, who
Ooo, who, who
Ooo, who, who
Ooo, who, who
Ooo, who, who
Oh, yeah
Whats me name
Tell me, baby, whats my name
Tell me, sweetie, whats my name
Ooo, who, who
Ooo, who, who
Ooo, who, who
Ooo, who, who
Ooo, who, who
Ooo, who, who
Ooo, who, who
Oh, yeah

"This is the End" by The Doors for FC#3

This is the end
you gentle friend
This is the end
My only friend, the end
Of our elaborate plans, the end
Of everything that stands, the end
No safety or surprise, the end
I’ll never look into your eyes
Again

Can you picture what we’ll be,
So limitless and free?
Desperately in need
Of some stranger’s hand
In a desperate land

Lost in a Roman
Wilderness of pain
And all the children are insane
All the children are insane
Waiting for the summer rain, yeah

There’s danger on the edge of town
Ride the king’s highway
Weird scenes inside the goldmine
Ride the highway west, baby

Ride the snake
Ride the snake
To the lake
The ancient lake, baby
The snake he’s long
Seven miles
Ride the snake
He’s old
And his skin is cold

The west is the best
The west is the best
Get here, and we’ll do the rest

Da blue bus is calling us
The blue bus is calling us
Driver where you takin’ us?

The killer awoke before dawn
He put his boots on
He took a face from the ancient gallery and he
Walked on down the hall
And he went into the room where his sister lived
And… then he… paid a visit to his brother, and then he…
He walked on down the hall, yeah
And he came to a door
And he looked inside
Father?
“Yes son?”
I want to kill you…
Mother? I want to… f*#k you all night yeah,
Come on, yeah

Come on baby, take a chance with us
Come on baby, take a chance with us
Come on baby, take a chance with us and
Meet me at the back of the blue bus
Doin’ a blue rock
On the blue bus
Doin’ a blue rock
Come on, yeah

F*#k, f#*k yeah
F*#k, f#*k, f#$k f#*k f#*k yeah
Come on baby,
F#*k me baby, f%&k yeah
Hey, f@$k f(#k
F..k… yeah
F#%k me, yeah
Come on baby, f@$k me baby
F#&k f(#k, whoah, whoah yeah
Yeah, f@%k yeah,
Come on, huh huh huh yeah,
All right…

Kill… kill… kill… kill… kill… kill… kill

This is the end
you gentle friend
This is the end
My only friend, the end
It hurts to set you free
But you’ll never follow me
The end of laughter
And soft lies
The end of nights we tried to die

This is the end

I don't know what I would stick in for Final Crisis #2

Tool's "The Grudge" and the Gary Jules cover of the Tears for Fears song "Mad World" seem to fit the best for the event.

Particularly because Tool sounds darker and is very visceral, the Gary Jules version has the piano element which gives the song a more somber tone and fits as well.

I have heard among this clan,
You are called the forgotten man
(is that what they're saying, well did you evah!)
(what a swell party this is)

And have you heard the story of,
A boy, a girl, unrequited love
(sounds like pure soap opera, tune in tomorrow)
I may cry
(what a swell party this is)

(what frills, what frocks) What broads!
(what furs, what rocks!) They're bootiful.
(Why I've never seen such gaity) Neither have I.
(Its all just too, too risque really)

This french champagne (domestic)
(so good for the brain) Thats what I was going to
say.
(you know you're a brilliant fellow?) Why thank
you
(pick up jack. please don't eat that glass my friend)

(Have you heard, about dear Blanche?)
(Got run down by an avalanche) No!
(oh don't worry, shes a game girl you know, got
up and finished 4th)
The kids got guts. (Having a nice time? Grab a
line!)

Have you heard that Mimsie Starr (what now)
She got pinched in the Astor bar
(sloshed again, eh?) She was stoned.
Well, did you evah? (Never!)
What a swell party this is!

Hey, check out that act! (That's a lovely dress)
You think I can talk her out of it?

It's great, (aah it's great)
so grand! (so grand)
It's wo-o-o-o-o-o-o-onderland!
la da da da......

(We sing), oh we sing
(so rare) so rare
(Like old camembert)
(Like baba au rhum!)
Don't dig that kind of crooning chum!

Have you heard? It's in the stars
Next July we collide with Mars.
Well, did you evah?
What a swell party, a swell party
A swelligant, elegant party this is!

**Conga Instrumental**

(Let's drink to your health)
Naw, lets drink to your wealth
(Your my bon ami)
hey, thats french
(Both) A liberty fraternity

Have you heard? It's in the stars
Next July we collide with Mars.
Well, did you evah?
What a swell party, swell party
Swelligant, elegant party this is!

"Emergency Broadcast :: The End is Near" by Underoath

At the end of it all
We will be sold for parts
We will try to rebuild
But we ate it all away
All ambitions now run dry
Someone stop this thing
Turn it off
In search of new life
Nothing will be left to walk this earth again

Turn it off

Our hopes and dreams
Will be swallowed alive
We always said it wouldn't end up like this

We will be the new ice age
We will be the new plague
Disguised as a colony
We will wipe them all away

Feast your eyes
Or just rip 'em out
This is it for us
It's time to panic

We always said it wouldn't end
It wouldn't end up like this

We are the cancer
We are the virus
Tell me it's not too late

I'm Libra, got a purple cloth on my face
I'm popping up all over the place
The Rogues won't join me but I'll show them
I'll have them tugging on my purple hem

Killed Martian Manhunter with a knife
His Martian Vision couldn't save his life
He couldn't be frog and hop away
Because it just was not his day

Superman hopes he resurrects
And teenage nerds hope they have sex
But neither is going to get their wish
All of their hopes I'm gonna squish.

Morrison said FC was the DCU to the sound of Death metal...

With bats and the end of FC6, I get the same song in my head as I did when I thought of a Connor Kent montage - My Hero by the Foo Fighters

If I soundtracked FC, there would be tons of Smashing Pumpkins and maybe Marylin Mason's "beautiful people" for Darkseid's minions...

And for when Supes mops the floor with darkseid? Tell me you're not hearing the John Williams theme and I'll call you a liar...

Also, for fight scenes, Spin by Taking Back Sunday, and Pain by Jimmy eat World.

For the ALE, hopelessnes and general "evil has won",I'd go for anything by Coldplay, because I imagine thats what the ALE sounds like. Man, I hate coldplay so much.

I would say it's Hey Now (Don't Dream It's Over) by Crowded House.

Not only is it a good theme for *any* desperate struggle in a post-apocalyptic setting, but the lyrics really seem to reflect the situation in Final Crisis.

There is freedom within, there is freedom without
(the major conflict is, of course, over freedom of individuality)

Try to catch the deluge in a paper cup
(laws of physics breaking down)

There's a battle ahead, many battles are lost
(the heroes are getting their bums whipped)

But you'll never see the end of the road
While you're traveling with me
(could liken these lines to any of the disparate groups of freedom fighters, but I think it fits Super Young Team best, since they literally travel together, in a car)

--
CHORUS:
Hey now, hey now, don't dream it's over
(Nix Uotan and his daydreams)

Hey now, hey now, when the world comes in
(The *Fifth* World does come in)

They come, they come to build a wall between us
We know they won't win
("They" referring to the Gods of Apokolips; the wall, of course, is Anti-Life)
--

Now I'm towing my car, there's a hole in the roof
(Most Excellent Superbat's car is totaled by Checkmate)

My possessions are causing me suspicion but there's no proof
(Motherboxxx *is* a rather suspicious artifact)

In the paper today tales of war and of waste
But you turn right over to the T.V. page
(Anti-Life is on! It's on every channel! We're gonna miss Smallville!)

CHORUS

Now I'm walking again to the beat of a drum
And I'm counting the steps to the door of your heart
(empowered by Metron's circuit, the survivors march on Bludhaven, the proverbial "heart of darkness")

Only the shadows ahead barely clearing the roof
Get to know the feeling of liberation and relief
(Again we come back to the struggle for freedom from the tyranny of Darkseid. The shadows ahead who know liberation are the evil gods, but they are barely clearing the roof -- indeed, Darkseid discards them all, once he feels certain of victory)

CHORUS

If it was going to be Mad World, it'd have to be the real deal, original Tears for Fears version of the song. Not that I don't like Gary Jules' version (over-exposed as Donnie Darko made it or not) this is the Jack Kirby Apocalypse here ... and slow piano version of the song doesn't fit as well as 80's synthesized artificiality.

Man, Tears for Fears rock.

But if I had to pick a song I'd go with Arch Enemy, and say that Cosmic Retribution, End of the Line, and Rise of the Tyrant would all be good choices.

The song that suites Final Crisis best?

Oh, I couldn't live a single day without you
Actually, on second thought, well, I suppose I could
Anyway, what I'm trying to say is, honey, you're the greatest
Well, at any rate, I guess you're...pretty good

Now, it seems to me I'm relatively lucky
I know I probably couldn't ask for too much more
I honestly can say you're an above-average [comic]
You're almost just what I've been looking for

You're sort of everything I ever wanted
You're not perfect, but I love you anyhow
You're the [comic] that I've always dreamed of
Well, not really...but you're good enough for now

You're pretty close to what I've always hoped for
That's why my love for you is fairly strong
And I swear I'm never gonna leave you, darlin'
At least 'til something better comes along

'Cause you're sort of everything I ever wanted
You're not perfect, but I love you anyhow
You're the [comic] that I've always dreamed of
Well, not really...but you're good enough for now

No, not really...but you're good enough for now
