When you play a game, do you use cheats often or no. and do you think cheats ruin a game

It depends. If it's online and you're getting out of the map, then you're a prick.

Though cheats are cool for GTA4 single player. . .

I always try to beat a game on my own. But if I feel the game is cheating on me- having parts that are ridiculously hard without warning, such as an RPG that requires you to beat a silly minigame to continue (I'm looking at you, FF X-2!) then I'd happily hack the heck out of it. Especially if I'm more interested in the story than the gameplay (as with most RPGs.)

Nope. Never until I beat it.

And maybe not even after I beat it once more.

Definitely gotta beat it first.

If it's frustrating and starting to become less fun, I'll use codes just to finish it out, but that's rare.

Not much of a question.

Just play the game through once, then you can cheat your way through every subsequent play with a clean conscience.

Sums up my feelings on the subject completely.

Usually I don't use a cheat unless it's near the end of the game and I'm just trying to get through it.

Although I would admit that using cheats just means that you're going through the motions and not really enjoying the experinence.

The only time I ever used a cheat code was on that Vampire: Bloodlines PC game. There was a section where you are stuck deep in the sewer systems until you open a valve to flood a tunnel, jump in the water, swim against the current and open a hatch, all before the current gets too strong. Due to a glitch (which was later fixed by a patch), the timing was impossible.

After literally at least 30 attempts, I used a cheat code that made my character intangible like a ghost. After so momentary confusion where I hurtled crazily through three dimensions of the sewer system, I got past the impossible section and continued playing without problems. Since installing that patch, I've played through that same section without trouble and without cheat codes.

Years ago I played around with cheats for fun, but I got tired of it.

I'll glance at a strategy guide every once in a while.

I used cheats to open all the playable characters in Marvel Ultimate Alliance before I even played for one second. All the characters I REALLY wanted to play were unlockables

Other than that though, I havent used a cheat code since NES. I will, however, look online for answers to get me through some rough spots from time to time.

With Gameshark, Codebreaker, Action Replay etc being a thing of the pass it is no longer possible to cheat unless you are exploiting a glitch or using an in-game code. Okay this isn't quite true, but who going to mod their 360 just to cheat?

I don't view exploiting a glitch a cheat unless you are on multiplayer. If you are using a glitch on single player, I see that as outsmarting the game.

I wouldn't call codebreaker a thing of the past yet. It was only announced as discontinued two weeks ago.

To cheat multiplayer games? Thats just wrong and is not justifiable in anyway shape or form. Cheating at single players if thats your thing then who cares, but to cheat other live people playing to? Those are the people Id like to get explosive diarrhea anytime they even think about a video game.

Cheating at multiplayer is anything from using a map hack (yeah even using cordinates in like WOW is cheating and shortcutting the game), abusing a glitch, buying money or characters or anything that gives you a advantage not intended in the game itself.

Now cheating in single player? Eh if thats what you want to do. But me personally I found any game I ever used a cheat I got really, really bored with so I havent done it since I was younger. Only time I ever cheated in my adulthood was turning on no clipping in aliens vs predator 2 because it was bugged and the damned door wouldnt open for me.

Regarding cheating.....

In all seriousness I wouldn't cheat in a multi-player, or an online game which I don't play anyway so it's cool..

Yes. I make two separate files. One for a real game, and one for cheats.

But for certain games, I use strategy guides to find hidden places and stuff.

Really, I only cheat when they cheat. I know two wrongs don't make a right, but if they don't want to play a fair game, I'll make it fair.

Pretty my reasoning with cheating in RE4.
I figure there enough death traps/instant deaths/cut scene kills in that game to balance it out.

I usually try to complete the game first before "cheating" (i.e. looking online or in strategy guides for secrets etc.). For example, in the Metroid Prime games, I'll beat it first, go back and try to 100% collection rates and if I'm absolutely stumped before I find everything, I'll break down and look it up.

I routinely "cheat" in RPGs though. I use the strategy guide almost constantly, but that's mostly because I want to stay focused on the story rather than looking around/exploring stuff. I get really bored with that.

It's possible. I did it, once upon a time.

Was. Not. Easy.
