Pretty straightforward.

Wondering if DC released 3-D and non-3D versions, like they did for that Superman: Last Son issue.

Nope. It's just 3-D.

Oh.

Lame.

Eventually, perhaps, but both editions I saw (the full cover and the thin panel cover) were 3-D.

I wonder how (or even if) this will be collected - with Last Will & Testament and Requiem, I suppose? Anyway, if it's in a trade I suspect it won't be 3-D...

Oh.

Lame.

Most accurate summary of this issue I've read so far.

Funny (and sad), because I don't think he was summerizing the issue, just the fact that there isn't a non-3-D version.

I think, but don't hold me to it, that the Action #851 that was collected was the 3D version. But I don't have it since I own the individual issues. However, this one, I'm thinking that if it will be collected, it'll be 3D.

As to how it will be collected, I'm betting that it'll happen one of two ways. "Superman Beyond" will be put in with "Final Crisis". But most likely we'll have a "Final Crisis Companion" similar to the one for "Infinite Crisis" and the four one shots for "Day Of Vengeance", "Rann/Thanagar War", "Villains United" and "The O.M.A.C. Project". We'll have that for these issues.

I didn't particularly care for the 3D gimmick either, in fact I think Action Comics pulled it off way better since they offered a non 3D comic and a 3D one. Plus it had used 3D better with the Phantom Zone.

I wished they offered a non 3D one for Superman Beyond but, eh what are you going to do?

"Anyway, if it's in a trade I suspect it won't be 3-D..."

That would also be my guess. I think it might be possible if the book goes to reprint, that might not be in 3D.

I actually thought the 3D effects were a bit better on this one than some of the older comics I saw try to do this effect. I read the issue without the glasses and thought it was OK to read, then with the glasses went over the pages that were in 3D and the effect seemed a bit more pronounced than usual. Some of the older comics like that Batman 3D that Byrne did years ago was pretty much unreadable without the glasses. I thought in this case the comic was legible without the glasses and honestly without the 3D glasses the effect was not that much more pronounced as some of the 'speed' or shaking effects that you will see people use with stuff like photoshop in a modern comic.

Since the 3D glasses are on that card, you can take them out of the book without tearing them up, which was a nice touch. I thought the cover and that one two page spread where the ship is falling through the 'multiverse' were particularly nice looking with the glasses. Maybe it was the 'speed rays' behind Superman, but the cover effect in a way reminded me a bit of some of Steranko's psychedelic looking artwork.

I could beat you senselessly with a lead pipe until you THINK it's not in 3D

Lame gimmick. I was annoyed by the 3D pages.

Otherwise the best work of Mahnke's career, though.

Yeah the 3-D didn't do much for me really. Limbo stuff was also less enjoyable than anticipated (Merryman and other limbo guy really seemed to add nothing to the issue.).

I'll never understand why every time I see something 3D I have to sit through someone comming up with a contrived story reason for the 3D to be there...

It's be great if DC remembered that not every one of their readers has binocular vision. Heck, my local comics shop guy is a really cool longtime fan who actually reads the books and has for decades -- he's also blind in one eye. :frown:

And while the gimmick is sort of interesting at times, I think the 3-D effect kind of spoils just being able to relax and enjoy the story...
