what does "swell" living really mean?

in kirkman's call to arms on teh topic of creator-owned comics, he describes the living he makes off TPBs as "really swell."

i am just curious... does anyone know what this probably means? i doubt anyone has knowledge of what kirkman speficially makes... but does anyone have inside knowledge in what creators at his level generally make?

in general, i would be curious about any info people have about this topic...

by "swell" does kirkman mean in the range of 100k... or does he mean more 500k... or more?

does bendis crack 7 figures a year?
what does the bottom wrung marvel writer make a year?

anyone know this kind of stuff?

but seriously, i get why people might not want to talk about salaries at a cocktail party... but for a public figure it's more of an academic question... i don't know kirkman... i don't care how much the man personally makes... i am interested in what the "kirkman achetype" makes... in the same way someone might be interested in "how much does an astronaut make" (not very much, btw)....

so i am asking the question about the archetypes that we will call "bendis archetype" "kirkman archetype" "miller archetype" etc... :)

I have no idea, I think one would mean that they can make a living off of it. Own a place and maybe retire on the money they make.

I admit, I don't know how much work goes into writing or drawing comics, but if anyone is making millions, per year, off of doing comics, and they describe it as a 'swell' living, I will punch them in the face, the smug bastards!! ;)
