Yes i was inspired by the DC,Marvel topics.

There is a best vertigo books thread but this is about the best five right now !

Not too many comics from Vertigo/WS these days and even fewer of quality so it will be interesting to see.

It can work as recommended thread for Vertigo/WS fans that havent picked Air or any other new comic.

P.S No minies or One-Shots .

My current top five Vertigo:

Hellblazer
100 Bullets
Scalped
Fables
DMZ

I really liked the debut of Air, but it's too soon in its run to outrank any of the aforementioned books. Ditto House of Mystery, Northlanders, and the new Stormwatch PHD, which I also dig but are all still finding their footing, too. I'd probably go with Jack of Fables at runner-up/number six.

Hmm, you're right about the lack of Vertigo/WS books out there currently. I'd be hard-pressed to fill up a top 10 of current ongoing books.

Heh thats why i did a top 5, you would have read everything thats new from Vertigo for an example to have a top 10 ;)

Scalped
Hellblazer
Ex Machina
100 Bullets
Fables

D'oh! Spaced out and forgot all about Ex Machina! I might have to bump Fables from my five to make room for it...

Hehe i too put Fables on my list cause many of favorites has ended like Y The Last Man.

Usually Hellblazer is my best Vertigo/WS but Scalped's awesome combo of cool crime fiction and social oriented stories has impressed the hell outta of me.

I learned alot info about today's situation for native americans. It made me check out historical and social info.

Real messed up that they did force people to become christians and "save" their souls in the fricking 1970s....

With 100 Bullets also closing up shop soon, I certainly feel your pain there. Mind you, I really like Fables, but the recent "final battle against the Adversary's forces" feels too anticlimactic and one-sided to me so far and I'm not digging the book like I used to, compared to the other four on the list. Same goes for the recent storyarc in Jack of Fables, too.

Totally agreed: Scalped is definitely the breakout 'new book' from Vertigo for me. And Jason Aaron's Hellblazer two-parter was excellent, too. Have you read his pre-Scalped GN, The Other Side?

I read his Wolverine arc and i hate Wolverine these days. You can geuss by that i will get The Other Side ;)

Its at the top of the list for my next TBPs hauls.

Jason Aaron is nice cause its not often you see a new author thats so good from the start.

I have to try DMZ,every other semi famous Vertigo just because you dont want to miss anything good when Vertigo line is slim on the number of a good series these days.

True. Always good to see a new comics writer rise to prominence who's actually earned his hype with consistently great writing, as opposed to being due to who he knows behind the scenes or what TV show he used to work on.

And so many of the great Vertigo books wind up being prematurely canceled, too. I would have listed Crossing Midnight in my top five were it still alive. And I was also digging Exterminators, The Vinyl Underground, Testament, and the Un-Men. I hope some of the new books like Air and House of Mystery do well so they don't get canned early, too.

Aaron is easily one of my favorite writers in comics now. The Other Side and Scalped have both impressed me.

I assume 'WS' means Wildstorm? If so see:

Considering we are talking about today's titles and not former runs. Vertigo is pretty much all I read (with the exception of Jonah Hex, which is more like a Vertigo title than a DCU title) this should be easy:

1. Scalped
2. 100 Bullets
3. DMZ
4. Madame Xanadu
5. House of Mystery
