Newsarama asked Levitz, Giffen, Abnett, Lanning, Johns, Waid and Shooter what they felt were the best Legion related stories / moments and this is the list they came up with:

10 - First Legion Reboot by Mark Waid (Zero Issue)
09 - The "Five Years Later" arc from Giffen's run
08 - Karate Kid's death at the hands of Nemesis Kid
07 - The "Earthwar" arc from Levitz' run
06 - The original Legion origin story (Superboy #147)

04 - DnA's "Legion Lost"
03 - Ferro Lad sacrificing himself
02 - First meeting of Clark Kent and the Legion

so do you guys agree with this for the most part? what stories would you add to your personal lists?

I would agree with this list. Off the top of my head I can't think of any others to add. Maybe just the Death of Superboy...

EDIT: The Rhas Al Ghul arc from the start of "The Legion" would come close too.

I agree that is was a good story. I actully think its a pretty good list. Only thing I might add would be the White Triangle Saga from the reboot and the Omega story Superboy/Legion 250-251,

CBDB says Ra's appeared only in Legion #6-#8, #10, #17-#18 that's true?

I would expand #8 beyond Karate Kid's death to that entire story: the LSV War, released in a collection called "An Eye for an Eye."

Surprisingly, no. At least not that I recall.

The one they've listed as #10 isn't one I'd ever list. I was floored, stunned, and then livid. To have this done with no warning was a literal rug-pull and I still resent it having been done all these years later.

I'd have to list the Shooter/Swan "Legion on the run" story when Universo had them outlawed.

The White Triangle story really pissed me off. I was trying to give the new direction a shot, but that's where it was over, as far as I was concerned.

I would agree to this list for the most part. I would toss out #9 and like Paul said I would add in the Death of Superboy in there.

8. The animated Legion (episodes #1.1-2.13, LSH31C #1-??)
7. The Lemnos arc (LSHv5 #1-13)
6. Violet's Story (LSHv2 somewhere in there)
5. For No Better Reason (The Legion #34-37)
4. Monster In a Little Girl's Mind (LSHv2 Annual #1)
3. The Great Darkness Saga (LSHv2 #291-295)
1 (tie). The DnA run (LSHv4 #122-The Legion #32, including Legion Lost and Legion Worlds) (or thereabouts)
1 (tie). Five Years Later (LSHv4 #1-38)

I hope I haven't left anything obvious out.

Ra's appeared as himself in all of those plus issues #4-5. #1-3 he was impersonating Earth president Leland McCauley, with M'Onel outing him in the last couple of pages of issue #3.
