View Full Version : Japanese X-Box, US games

So after finally saving up enough monies, I think I'm ready to buy an X-Box 360. Which'll be good, 'cause my Super Famicon fried itself last week. Yep, I still played on that system. Thing is, I live in Japan, but the games that I'd like to play are US games. So my question to you people is: can a Japanese 360 play US games? or does the whole regional shitite apply?

Sorry if this is supposed to be elementary knowledge. Like I said, I've been playing the Famicom(equivalent of SNES), so I don't know anything about modern systems.

Like everything else non-hand held, it's region coded.

You could import a console from the US.

'Tis what I'm thinking. But first I'm going to go around and see if any stores sell the US console already. There's a sizable American community nearby, so there's bound to be something.

It depends on the game, some are region-locked some aren't.

But yeah, you're better off with a US console if those are the games you want

Good. So, how do you like living in the land of the rising sun?

I'm born and brought up here. Its home. And weird. Like the other day, I was walking back from work and saw this Italian couple. My first reaction was "bloody gaijin". Then I burst out laughing, seeing as I'm one myself. It was nice to see that four years of college hadn't eradicated all the japaneseness from meself.

Is it too complicated to live there, putting the language aside? I'm asking because I'm getting the impression that by living there, it's as though you have to fight against a storm or something sometimes.

Nah. I'm fluent in Japanese and English. Language isn't a problem.

And while most of the other Indians here got crap slung at them, I've never really much trouble. Mostly because I embraced the culture. Plus I just sorta get a long with everyone.

I guess the only real problem I would have is job stuff. At least in Kobe, no one wants a large hairy Indian working among Japanese. Or maybe I just give off a bad vibe. *shrugs* Its life.

I don't see why you could not play them as long as you adjust the settings. Call of Duty 4 a huge favorite for the 360

Pick up enough so you can get about.
My fiancee speaks fluently, my japanese is shit to nil, but i've never been to that part of the world, and would love to go, even with my weak skill in the language.
After all, i went to france without speaking a word of french, and went to spain only speaking a little mexican learned spanish.

Yeah, language shouldn't be that much of a factor. Besides, english is mandatory learning in the schools, even if it does end up being engrish.

Good to know (the fluency in Japanese, I mean).

HA!!!! True, true. Not only with the japanese, but with the chinese as well.

Ahh, sorry to bring this back up again, but I've ran into a slight problem with the 360. None of the sites shown on the Xbox site sell the console overseas. And I would really prefer not having to resort to Ebay. Do any of you know of any sites that would ship the console to Japan? Or do I have to get a freind to buy it and ship it to me?

Don't worry. Well, I live outside the US, too, so I use a freight forwarder service (a.k.a. a P.O. Box service) which sends me whatever it is I buy.

If you wish, you could try MasterDelivery (http://www.masterdelivery.com) (for MasterCard users only) to see if their services are available for Japan, shipping rates and stuff.

Thanks. I'll check that out.
