Not sure about that, there was supposed to be a fairly long period where people were okay with mutants existing and the mutant race growing in numbers again until "destiny freaks" messed it up according to young bishop. And then the messiah baby messed things up by instigating the 6 minute war. And the six minute war was at most a few decades from when Layla and Madrox jumped into the future given that one of the prison guards told Layla she hated mutants because she lost her children in the 6 minute war. Which would place the six minute war at least a couple of decades ahead of the present, probably about 50-70 years so.

Chain of events as far as i can tell:

-Bishop tries to kill messiah baby
-Messiah baby jumps into the future
-Messiah baby grows up in the future
-Messiah baby returns to the present
-Mutant race at least partially restored though probably not fully.
-Relative period of calmth when humans and mutants lived side by side.
-Messiah baby kills 1 million humans in 6 minutes flat
-Mutant/human war
-Mutants imprisoned in camps
-Bishop's parents die in the camps
-Bishop meets Layla and Madrox
-Mutants freed from the camps by Ruby Summers
-Bishop becomes a mutant cop
-Bishop jumps into the past
-Bishop tries to kill messiah baby

The other future which has so far been left untold:

-Messiah baby grows up in the future
-Messiah baby returns to the present
-Mutant race probably fully restored (x-factor supposedly has something to do with this, possibly due to Layla breaking the timeparadox and destroying Bishop's timeline?)
-Mutants wreck human society and mutant superiority on the rise
-X-factor tries to stop old man Tryp from affecting the past (couple of decades in the future)

The Maddie thing is too obvious when you consider another Inferno story is coming up (that's meant to shift heavy focus on Magik). Maybe I'm just being optimistic but they wouldn't do something that obvious would they? I really hope its not Maddie--her story was done with the first Inferno and I'd rather remember her grudge & betrayal against Scott because of Jean than have a "part II" w/ Maddie against Emma.

I think Red Queen probably is Maddie because of the upcoming Inferno Sequel. In one interview they asked the writer of the mini (which is mostly about Magik) about the possibility of Madelyne or Jean appearing and he hints that one of the red-heads would be. Of course he could be meaning Rachel (in space), Wanda (depowered), or Siryn (why?)...

IGN Comics: The Goblin Queen was the prime mastermind behind the original Inferno. Will she be returning as well? Does this story have an effect on Jean Grey or the numerous members of the Summers family?

Cebulski: As we all know, there are plenty of red-headed mutants running around the X-Men Universe. One will be making an appearance in this story, but I won't tell you which.

Well, I went back and looked at Endsong to see where the Emma "over the shoulder" look is recycled, and didn't find it.

I did see the same Wolverine head three times, though. And several panels where the cuckoos are drawn with the same facial expression, just cut & pasted again, or flipped so they're looking at each other. But that second one's dicey, since they all do look like a young Ems.

Checking the #500 vs. #501 Emma pose now.

I did find what Slung was talking about between #500 and #501, with the two Emmas in the same pose. They have slight variations in the face, ever so slight. Marginal difference in size. Up for interpretation.

However, I have found a Cyclops headshot from #500 that is the same size, and facial expression, save that I think the one from #501 has a little more 5 o'clock shadow. I'm doing scans as we speak.

I definitely like the idea of a rotating cast. It gives an opportunity for some of the backround characters to have a chance in the spotlight. Wolverine can't hog it ALL the time :biggrin:

Its weird, because Land's work in Endsong actually seemed a little more innocent and artistic.

That's one of them. Land absolutely recycles poses and expressions.

His work on Endsong and Warsong was beautiful. The coloring accentuated his photoreferencing wonderfully. The problem is that he uses the same images over and over again. I don't feel anything in his work anymore.

It's too bad he doesn't get inspired from Tony Harris's work. He composes people, photos them, and uses that for his reference. The effect is gorgeous and gives the reader something dynamic and, most important, something that fits the emotional tone of the story.

Emma thought she had him donw and pegged, but Scott's new "exciting and direct" personality isn't exlcuding her, which is why I found that scene so interesting because it suprised her.

The perpetrators of these crimes should be the focus of resentment. In any case, gay bashing has been steadily increasing in SF. Is it due to the crime being reported more or just simply more bashings? I don't know. It does seem that Brubaker and Fraction took a real problem in SF and tried weaving it into their story. I wish they kept to their original plan.

The writing still just doesn't quite seem to catch the personalities well. It seems like Fraction is trying to take some style from the past with the little inserted character description boxes and make it more hip with the dialogue and it doesn't really mesh that well. Emma's remark about shops with price tags being vulgar seems in character, but then she was concerned because Peter threw a hybrid last issue? Make up your mind, woman. Are you a conspicuous consumer or not?

Still don't understand the bit with Beast's fingers. Are they really going to go somewhere with this or is it just a reference to Morrison's run that ignores the fact that Beast has been able to cope since then?

As for the bondage scene, CC is going to get awfully jealous.

The best parts of the issue was the brief interaction with Wolverine, Kurt, Peter and the beercan and the variation of the fastball special.

To be honest Lands early work was a lot lot better.

I've seen a few of his old covers (namely some of his Nightwing (http://www.comicvine.com/greg-land/26-2064/other-art/108-5019/158980-greg-land/105-115082/) covers), and they remind me of a mix of Darick Robertson and Alan Davis (both very good artists), but I haven't actually read any of his old books, so I'm really just going by what I've seen him in myself. I know he's built himself the fame as being the ultra-real artist lately, but I wouldn't mind seeing him working as a traditional 2D artist again.

I was expecting to dislike the issue, after having re-read #500 and coming to the realization that the issue WAS as bad as everyone said.

But....I kinda liked #501. Even Land seemed to be not as bad as per usual. I really liked his use of shadows with Wolverine and Nightcrawler. All in all (despite it's flaws which I DID notice), I thought it was a big step up from last issue.

I didn't see it as them inferring that her sexuality was all she was. But in a book (and comic world) primarily made up of heterosexuals, being a lesbian is a unique aspect. Doesn't mean that's "all" she is. Is Warren only defined by his money? No. Is Colossus only defined by his love for Kitty? No. Same case scenerio with Karma.

My only gripe with this was Warren's money was constantly referenced throughout his appearance this issue (and #500's as well) It feels kinda like the writers are telling us, "Warren is so worthless on the battlefield but look he bought us a new base and jets and cars with tons of change to spare!" It's just kinda like we get it. He's loaded.

I don't like his dialogue either, really it just feels like they're pinning him on us to seem interesting. And he's not atleast IMO.
