First they make swing shift into a 4 dollar director's cut

and now they're doing it with the x-men story.

if they re-released the comic with a regular 2.99 price tag maybe but these director cuts mark-ups seem to kind of defeat the point and make obsolete the original versions released on FCBD

I think that's sorta the point.

There's no real point to simply just reprint the issue for the $2.99. Especially since most people picked up the FCBD version when it was available. Sales probably wouldn't be worth it. So they offer something special with the re-release. Not to mention it helps recoup some of the costs for the so-called free issue.

And I don't see how it makes the original versions obsolete. The whole point of Free Comic Book Day is to get people into the stores that don't normally go there. To give them an incentive that might attract new readers to start making regular visits buying related books. They serve their purpose.

I'm glad they do the priced Director's Cuts later on. If coming out with a $4 Director's Cut of a given issue that was originally new material and FREE enables them to continue to put out such cool free and original work on FCBD (unlike DC who just does reprints...usually of something pretty good, but also usually something I've already bought), then more power to them.

The added material is nice for anyone who missed out on the FCBD issue or collectors who feel like they need both. If one feels obligated to buy the issue just for the extras then that's the person in question's problem, not Marvel's. Marvel is in the business of making money, and they're totally justified in charging for an extended cut of something they originally put out en masse for free months later.

yeah, it just sucks for me I guess cause I get whatever Marvel comic Marvel releases that day and I think I have it and then they're like "Hold up there...you want the REAL whole thing, we're gonna need 4 bucks."

if i recall, they even changed the swing shift one-shot slightly from its original form.

but yeah, you're right

Thanks for pointing that out.....since sometimes it's very easy to miss out on FCBD; especially when some of the free comics offerred would disappear much quicker than others...... :frown:

The 8 pages were on Marvel's website a few weeks before the first issue. It just basically invovled Dum Dum Dugan getting switched by a Skrull.

Why does it tire you?

They've done it twice, to my knowledge.

If you ask me, it's stupid to make a new comic just for FCBD. It would be a waste of money when a reprint would work just fine.

Would you prefer they just offered a reprint of something? Wouldn't you rather get new material on FCBD?

You don't have to buy it, you know.

You don't even have to acknowledge its existence.

Exactly... In my country I can't get the FCBD issue or the chances are practically next to impossible for me to get it.

Indeed. And they're often important for what's to come.

Well... X-Men and Swing Shift were. X-Men possibly more than Swing Shift.

The Runaways one really wasn't. Probably why it was only reprinted in the HC, AFAIK.
