Even though this would probably equal financial suicide, what if Marvel were to kill off Wolverine and keep him dead either permenantly or for at least no less than 3/4 of a decade?
How would you react?

I'd be surprised by how intent they were to go into bankruptcy again.
I'd still read Captain America for as long as it got published.

Not believe it? Yeah. Taking major character death seriously is hard for me.
But it really wouldn't matter much to me. It's not that I buy much with him in it.

I'd be pretty pissed and I'd be dropping a lot of books...he's my favorite character...but I know he'd come back eventually. Besides, he just died in Guggenheim's last arc lol

Depends on which Wolverine you're talking about. I'm pretty sure Marvel could kill off 3/4 off the Wolvies running around the MU and no one would bat an eye lash.

I'd wonder if Marvel likes Emma so much, they not only remove all the women in her favor, but men as well. Then Iceman, Beast, Angel, and Gambit get killed off, Colossus and Nightcrawler get sent off to space limbo, Cannonball gets fused with a giant space bullet, and then Marvel puts the rest of the X-men in limbo until only Cyclops and Emma Frost are left.

I'd still check out a few 616 books regardless just to see if they can hold my interest without my favorite character (New Avengers, Astonishing, X-Force), but for the most part I'd probably just cut way back on my comic book spend and only stick with the Ultimate books (assuming they haven't killed him in both universes).
To be honest, it would be kind of interesting to me to see how Marvel would fill the void in the 616 Marvel U without him. Maybe replace him with another badass like Moon Knight in the New Avengers? And perhaps Cable in Astonishing and/or X-Force? Plus they've already got X-23, so she could just take the codename Wolverine to honor him. Might be interesting, and as long as I could read about him in the Ultimate Universe I honestly wouldn't bitch (at least not too much).
I'd take the Siryn point of view.

Oh, yeah. He'd be back for sure. But it might be kind of fun in a "Death of Superman" kind of way. The more I think about it, the more I say kill him in the regular Marvel U. Do it right after the movie comes out next May and make it a big deal (like the deaths of Supes and Cap). Have X-23 step up and claim the codename Wolverine, and bring Cable back to also help fill the void in the X-books.
And for God's sake, keep him dead for a good long while! At least 2 or 3 years. In fact, bring him back right before the sequel to X-men Origins: Wolverine. In the meantime, Wolverine fans can get their fix in the Ultimate U, the Marvel Adventures Avengers book, and Wolverine: First Class.
I say let's do this! It would build up an anticipation for the character's return and allow some other folks to get some push/spotlight.

have him get depressed and go missing, presumed dead, for a while. then get him to comeback, with a brilliant backstory about Japan or something. but dont do a steve rogers, that would diminish the brubaker captain america impact.

I'd be happy, blissful, and filled with glee
I used to like Wolverine, but he is so over-used and is so out of character compared to his gruff self seen from the 70s to the 80s. Marvel comics ruined Wolverine, and I'd be glad they killed him off. So many books with him in it plus minis, ugh! I used to like Wolverine but he makes me sick now:mad:

I think I'd have to spend a lot of money to buy every Marvel Comic that came out that month just to make sure he wasn't in them...
Ultimate X-Men and Marvel Adventures would get a hell of a sales boost though wouldn't they?

There's no point in trying to figure out how we would react if Marvel killed off Wolverine because he's literally unkillable.
The man regenerated from a molecule. A drop of blood. A skeleton (how does that even make sense? Bone marrow DNA?)

Honestly, I would throw a party! The character has done nothing but interfere with my enjoyment of the X-Books for over a decade.
That said, I do understand that people do like the character. So, really, I'd prefer it if he just made no appearances on an X-Team again.

After Secret Invasion, he should return to the X-men, NO NEW AVENGERS, totally pointless
In his solo series, no books about dreams (the one arc before "get mystique" with dr. strange), the past (wolverine origins; lets face it, i liked it when he was forced into weapon x, mindwiped, and meets alpha flight, nothing more, mystery made him interesting), or the future (the current wolverine arc with old hawkeye), like we really need to see that. Wolverine's not developing, keep him in one place.
X-Force and X-men is all the Wolverine I can handle

Let's just forget about the death thing and say that Wolverine should be on hiatus from any team A or X. I think we can get enough Wolverine in solo action in his own book(s). I know that'll never happen but overexposure is what nearly killed the Punisher. Right now Wolvie doesn't seem like a unique character anymore.

He's my favorite character and I think Marvel will lose a lot of sales if they killed off Wolverine. If they killed off Wolverine for good, I'll boycott all Marvel books

So I'd just do that again.
Which last time are we talking about? When he came back brain washed as a Hand assassin, or when he came back as Death? Either way I'd roll my eyes, count to ten and "ta da" he'd be back.

Enraged, I would go to my local supermarket, and starting kicking Lunchables and Toaster Strudel boxes until I felt better. I've said it before, but really don't get the over-exposure argument. When I have the conversation with someone about it, it usually goes the same way.
Person: "Wolverine's so Over-exposed"...he's in 100 books!!!
Me: "Yeah..so? Do you read all of the books that he's in?"
Person: "Well...noooo...but..."
Me: "Well why do you care about him appearing in books you don't read? Wolverine's my favorite character, and I don't even get half of the books that he appears in. Batman, Superman, and Spider-man also appear in a 100 books, as does Iron Man. I like Iron man, but do I really give a crap if Iron Man has 3 solos? No, cause I don't read them."
Person: "Well he's in so many books, that other character don't get a chance to shine!!!"
Me: What books are those? He has a small supporting role in NA & AXM and sometimes Uncanny, He leads X-force, but the other characters, especially X-23, get plently of face time, and he has his solo books, which you probably don't read. Cyclops and Emma are getting the most face time in most of the X-books, Kitty got the most in AXM b4 Ellis...other characters are getting plenty of opportunities to shine. You see Pixie, and Armor, and Cyclops, and Emma all over the X-books. I really don't see it. Anyways, that's up to the writers...It might be mandatory for him to be in at least one of the x-books, but I'm sure Marvel doesn't have a rule that he has to be in every one. People like writing him.
Person: Well, he's in so many books, he's not unique anymore.
Me: How so? I think he has one of the most interesting histories and dynamics in all of comics. Maybe not every writer handles him right, and that happens more when more writers use a character, but when he's handled right, like what Jason Aaron did...it's awesome. I don't get that either. I mean, maybe he's not new anymore, but neither's Captain America. Doesn't take away from the fact that you can still write new and interesting stories with him.
Person: Well, I don't like seeing his face on all of those covers.
Me:
Haha...I'm just saying...I don't get Origins, Ult. X-men, Marvel Adventures Avengers, and Uncanny most of the time, so it doesn't really matter to me (even though I heard MA: Avengers was actually really fun.) I just don't get it...never will probably. Thinking back, all of this over-exposure talk didn't even start until the first X-men movie really...i think after a while it's just became popular for some to say. If you don't get his solo, Origins, or First Class, why does it matter that they exist? The only thing Marvel needs to do is start referencing where a story takes place in relation to other stories.
