Specially Emma, she's become a "massive snob" (she said so herself) and Storm too acts like she's superior to the rest of the world, even more than she used to. I find they are a little out of character, am I the only one?

Because Greg Land likes to draw them posing for the camera in every panel...?

One thing I have noticed that is related to this is all the "we're x-men" talk. Of course we can do this because "we're x-men". How dare you doubt me? I am an x-man! I cringe every time I see an x-man call themselves an x-man. It is annoying and kind of snobbish... like you said.

ummmm....when HASN'T Emma been a massive snob? it's an integral part of her character since at least the Morrison days, if not before.

Because Emma has totally mind screwed the lot of them and is secretly controlling them from within by corrupting Scott with the power of her mind.

And of course her magic vagina.

Here's Emma doing her best Paris Hilton 'Look at me I'm famous' moment.

I'd say the X-men have just been grounded from all this fame, vis Pixie getting her ass beat.

I don't think they are acting as celebs (well in Emma's case that's her spirit:)) ) , but raher show that they are on top of the situation and everything is going to be ok.

Because they don't have normal nine to five jobs but manage to drive billion dollar sports hybrids, have houses bigger than the White House, travel all over the globe and space, and are gorgeous. ..... HOW COULD THEY NOT ACT LIKE CELEBRITIES. Has Paris Hilton not taught us anything?

I like the Public Celebrity Hero angle the X-Men are taking, but I gotta admit, I find it hard to actually like them as human characters when they act like entitled trust fund kids. It would be more charming if Scott wasn't quite as comfortable with the celebrity as, say Emma or Santo, who would obviously dig it. Instead, he's flipping between acting like a brooding general and a playboy. Doesn't quite suit his character. It'll be more interesting to see how the other characters are taking it. (Anyone else had enough of Cyclops to last a while?..)

The public celebrity was handled better under Grant Morrison's New X-Men & Louise Simonson's X-Factor, but then the X-Men were humble & disliked the attention. Heck, in X-Factor, the team refused to reveal their identities to the public, although Beast & Angel had done so years earilier in The Avengers & The Chamspions respectively.

I just see the current writers--Ed Brubaker & Matt Fraction--are incompetent; therefore, they are a completely wrong fit for Uncanny X-Men.

Well the Mayor of Frisco rolled out the red carpet, for one.
Emma has always been upper crust, and storm went from Goddess, to hero, to Outcast to Queen. The rules never applied to either of those two.

After you save the world and the Universe a few times, I can't really blame you for having a sense of entitlement. Also This might just be the calm before the storm, the..this might be too good to be true set up for some really hard times coming ahead. C'mon...the X-Men never have their time in the sun for too long.

I do not believe it is the writers who are incompetent.

Why are the X-Men suddenly acting like they are celebrities?

Because everybody wants to be an X-Statix.

Hopefull, they are setting up the celebrities for a fall. Would be nice to see an arc where they are suddenly poor, and running. I know Australia kinda did this, but for the most part they have always been spoiled from a monetary standpoint.

I don't think they're acting like celebrities. I think they're acting like they're on vacation.

Think about it. Usually, most of the celebrity trappings are there anyway. Lots of money. Expensive cars. A mansion. Custom aircraft. Not to mention the fact that most of them have turned out to be very good-looking people. Yet, normally, they sit in the midst of all this opulence and . . . mope. They just stew in their own angst.

Yet, right now it's different. They're in San Francisco. They've got a new setting and they're doing things their own way. And they're actually enjoying themselves. They're having fun for the first time in forever. And what comes with that is that they're actually enjoying their resources (wouldn't you if you had them?). Plus, the mayor of San Francisco has rolled out the red carpet for them. So, that's why it seems like they're acting like celebrities.

Oh my. I think I have lost a little respect for Cyclops. He used have a fair amount of body hair and now....he seems like a hairless chinchilla with red sunglasses.

I think the hairlessness happened after being purged of Apocalypse, hairless here in New X-men too

When Grant Morrisson wrote the X-Men as celebs, he did it with the expressed purpose of "giving them everything so it could all be taken away" with the powerful and tragic ending to his run. I don't know if the current writers have such drastic plans for a year or two down the road, but hopefully this new status quo will get shaken up sooner or later. I don't want reading Uncanny to feel like a fluffy rag from the supermarket checkout (especially with Greg Land's porn/art). What if Worthington Industries tanks? What if their friendly mayor loses an election or is removed from office? The X-Men are at their most interesting when they're forced to evolve, so hopefully they won't sit around being comfortable and looking pretty for too long.

Don't worry, I'm sure some kind of catastrophe will strike soon. There isn't much to write about if everything goes smoothly.

I don't think Morrison's X-Men ever really went full tilt into the celeb angle. I mean, the X-Men were outed, and mutant culture was on the rise, but they weren't really celebrities. If anything, there's seemed to be a youth movement towards Magento.

Mutants as celebrities has been done in the satellite books before though (X-Factor, Excalibur, X-Force/X-Statix).
