First and foremost, welcome to Make Me a Superhero! This will be a weekly challenge of sorts. In which all posters are welcomed to post a design for the challenge. There really aren’t all that many rules for this thread.

- The picture of your design should be cropped to 550x800.
- Criticisms are welcomed, but in a polite and civil way. We don’t want to put anyone down, but help to improve their work.
- On every other Wednesday I will post the challenge. If you are interested in participating in the challenge of question, post the picture (via photobucket, imageshack, etc.) and a brief description of the characters back story, powers, and how your character ties into the challenge. You have until 11:59 p.m (CST) on Sunday to post your entry.
- That following Monday, I will post a voting thread, in which everyone is free to vote for which character they liked the most.
- The winner of that challenge get’s to choose the next challenge.
- After a competitor has entered their entry, please pm me with your idea for the next challenge, before the voting period ends.
- Once again this is just a friendly design contest. So no eliminations. Furthermore, there is no commitment involved with Make Me a Superhero. So if you feel like playing one week and not the next, which is perfectly fine.

And to end it off… have fun!

Challenge: For your fourth challenge, Josef F. invites you to...Create a graduation costume for a NEW X-MEN Member! From any of the students of the X-Academy, depowerd, dead or not, Design the costume they would have worn for their tenure in the X-Men

Note* One designer per character.

Dust- Shade101
Indra- Kid Icarus
Loa- Hi-Fi
Pixie- AnkaleRa
Surge- Aljira
The Three-In-One- EscapeGoat
Trance - pryde15

OK. We have 11 entries this round, which is great! Unfortunately the poll limit is 10. So here is how we will vote.

Please post the name of the designer & character that was your favorite, in this thread.

i kept the x-men colors, but i added a few reds to make it a bit more interesting. gave her a skirt that goes over a pair of tights, made of, what Forge affectionately refers to as mutant threads...and the hair! i gave her a nice, sharp and short assymetrical cut (kinda like what selma blair was wearing on hellboy 2...only straight-er and longer...and everybody is sporting shorter hair nowadays) and a hot pink highlight, for more attitude...not that she needs it anyway, but a next generation x-men leader should not be afraid to try different hairstlyes. (e.g. HRH Storm)

So I'm putting her at either 17 or 18. She's still the same hyperactive, playful girl, but she's got a sexy side. She needs something that shows skin, but is still has that fairy touch to it. So she's got a nice, short skirt. Tons of tulle. And she's got nearly knee-high boots, with high platforms. Plus, her shirt allows for some reasonable cleavage, nothing too slutty, but still adventurous. The gloves give her that tie to a childish feel, along with her patented gold head band.

Colorwise, I went with a palette of green, black, and yellow. The green ties her not only to her original uniform, but also the fairy aspect of her character. The black and yellow are tied to her second uniform. Plus, the black ties nicely to the "Dark Pixie" idea with part of her soul missing. The entire ensemble even gives off a modern/young witch aura.

The back. The back is situated so that putting on the costume is relatively easy. Even with her wings. The black top has cut-outs in the back to cover the top of the wing connection, and the green top has cut-outs to cover the bottom of the wing connection. This way, Megan can easily get dressed without having to crunch her wings or anything.

Firstly, HAIRCUT.
The top is designed to look almost thorax-like, as she is . . .a bug.
The top comes underneath the wings, as I've never understood how Archangel /Icarus /Angel put these clothes on with these gigantic wings.
Logic prevails!

I couldn't take away the signiature hoops, but I gave her a bunch of braclets to go with it awell, aswell as a Wedding ring.
Barnell & Angel 4eva.

The stiletto boots are because more heroes need stilettos.
And the little gold bit at the end is a metal spike at the end of the boot.
This girl's from the ghetto, she's not going out under-eqipped

I thought a simple 2-piece 2-colour costume would be best, as she's already got these ridiulous wings to really set her apart.

And angel was around in the time where Leather was in, so needless to say, that's what it's made of.

Finally, I didn't want too much flesh on show.
She's sexy, but she's a mother first.
She doesn't want her kids seeing her in a ninja thong.

This Wallflower is around 18-19 years old. As you can see her arm has been healed thanks to Josh. And she's become a master at her powers. I just couldn't take away Laurie's jacket that had to stay. So I changed the color scheme to orange and white. Which is the color scheme for the overall costume also. Laurie is always deemed as the cute girl next door. So to sex her up a bit I exposed her midriff. I also continued the trend of the freckles.

So this is my DJ. I always pictured him as being thinner, or not as overtly muscular or whatever so I went with a more stream-lined look, suc as trying to incorporate straight lines in his jacket. Also I tried to stay true to his original colors, but updated it a bit. Also, because of his unique powers his belt is outfitted with ipod holders, each one filled with a specific music genre so that he can quickly tap into a different power set.

And then I thought he needed some shades, so yeah.

Dust

While I was designing this costume I had black as the color of her costume already in mind. But as I began finishing the costume, I noticed that the black trim around the costume would stand out a lot better with a lighter color. And the color white seemed to be the best option. The contrast of the black and white make for an eye catching design I think.

I also wanted to add a bit of "sensuality" to the costume, but not make it overy sexy to the point that she looks whorish instead of lady like and sophisticated. Which is why I designed a lower neckline with a nice symmetrical design to it in order to accentuate her bosom just a little bit. But I was very careful as to not show too much, because then of course that would go against her culture. I added the thick black lines on her abdomen in order to create the illusion of a longer torso.

I wanted to keep the abaya design, so I improvised on it and created my own style of abaya. Except this time it comes in three pieces. A big flowy sleeved top that connects to a veil that masks her face, a dress-like middle piece with a plunging triangular mid section, and a pair of tights/pants underneath.

Anyways, I was pretty satisfied with this design, but was afraid that the color of the costume would be too much of a risk. But it turned out great I think.

So apparently. Coloring a picture predominantly charcoal is NOT fun. So I gave up... about 5 hours ago.

Well anyways. Trance was voted best dressed at the mansion, and has been shown to always be stylin', for comic book standards atleast. Another thing I noticed about Trance. She always manages to catch your eye whilst on panel, without having to shown skin. Which leads me to believe she has a more conservative fashion sense, which I tried to convey in this picture.

I imagine Hope as a budding fashion designer, running her own line: Peace, Love, Hope. Using her inheritance, of course. So with her X-Men uniform, I wanted to make it something she could wear walking down the Fifth Avenue. Or fighting alongside the X-Men. This uniform would be suitable for either enviroment, and functional.

For the colors? Here is what I was thinking.

Dress- Charcoal
Tights- Red
Belt- White
Trimming on Dress- Red
Ballet Flats- Charcoal

That is just what I was thinking. When I have more time I plan to do another sketch of Trance in this costume, I loved this challenge. But I hate coloring.

Bleh
the whole debacle left me with an unfinished piece
but that's ok!
I kinda made it in time!

so anyways...
This is Indra
I kept his colors similar to his alpha squadron uniform
since that is the only uniform he will probably ever know
But I based its design off of one of Northstar's designs since he was
the X-man that most influenced his life.
I kept his shoes casual so he wouldnt feel all dressy
and I tried to keep the costume bianchi-ish
just slightly less so

OMG SHADE! that's the BEST work that's i've seen from you so far! i mean, i might have a bit of an issue with the lowered neckline but to hell with that...she is absofuckinlutely spectacular!!!

therefore I, Aljira, the first and only homosexual Queen of the Torrijos Clan in the province of Cavite located in the island of Luzon, the largest of the 7,107 islands of the Republic of the Philippines, vote for you, SHADE101 and your illustration of DUST, on grounds of excellent design execution despite the strictness of the character's religion.

hmmm.

i could've just written i vote for shade101: DUST, ryt?

Gah! Noticed some odd tanish tones in the background of my image, I guess because the home computer's brightness is set too high. Made an adjustment to take that out.

That said, I'm still not sure who to vote for this round. A lot of stellar stuff from everyone!

Kinda stuck between Pixie and Dust...though DJ and Beak were pretty good too...and Indra

Kid Icarus

Dust is fantastic, but I have a problem with the fact that Dust couldn't actually wear it...as only her hands feet and eyes are technically allowed to be showing, but the colors and design are wonderful.

Pixie's design is gorgeous as well, but even as an evil sorceress I see Pixie making pink the new dark phoenix.

All that said, Beak easily gets my vote. Simply wonderful, Meathawq

Aljira- It's interesting. I really like the hair, minus the pink strip. And the color scheme works well for the character. But this looks alittle too bondage queen for me.

AnkaleRa- Love it. Very good job. It's fun and youthful, two traits that are key to Pixie's character. Your color job is amazing, her skirt looks amazing. And her wings! wow, just great. But I am not a fan of the green, I think it would've looked better replaced with a different color, just not sure which color. lol

Josef F.- Nice job! Those boots are ghetto fabulous. I love the gold tip, it reminds me of Bianchi's redesign of Angel. I loved the golden tip, EVEN IF it hasn't been seen since. Rude. Anyways, I think you picked great colors for the character. The front confuses me alittle, though.

lockerogue- Cute. Very nice job. The colors look really good, The orange fits her much better than the canary yellow. My one complaint, it is too reminiscent of her Academy X training uniform. Other than that, I think you did a great job with Laurie.

Hi-Fi- Nice. Love the hair, we think alike. The inclusion of grey & black works really great. And the tatoos look great, which is always annoying, when I draw her. My one complaint, the multi-colored shirt underneath, it's really... out there I guess you could say. It doesn't really fit in with the rest of the design.

Meathawq- wowza. There isn't much more too say but wowza. And you did almost all of that with sharpie? That's amazing! Other than that, love the design. I wasn't a big fan of Beak, but if he was wearing that, I would love to see him return. He looks amazing.

BruisedShin- I like it! I think the blazer is my favorite part. It is very much DJ, but in a more mature setting. Which is kind of what this challenge called for. I also liked that you stayed close to his original color scheme, it worked well then, and it looks great here.

Shade101- I applaud you. Your character was probably the most difficult to work with. But you made it work. Everything about this is great. My one complaint, I think you sexed up the character alittle too much, which is not something I would expect from Sooraya. Since religion is a key component to the character.

Kid Icarus- lol. You stole Trance's converses!Nice design. I like the knee pads and gauntlets. This is a really cute design overall. Oh I forgot, the color scheme looks great overall.

EscapeGoat- Oh my god. These are great! I love that you showed skin but without making it sexual in the least. They look like, if you crossed them, they would cut you. I love the color palette, I also really enjoy the fact that all the color are kind of muted, very nice touch. My one complaint, the ribbed va-jay-jay. I think if you hadn't ribbed their vaginas, it would've looked just as nice. This was my favorite.

My vote goes to Escape Goat for his redesign of the Stepford Cuckoos.

Yay! My first vote!

BTW, I wasn't sure why I incorporated the striped look on the briefs at first until now. I just realized it kinda resembled bee stripes, which ties into the "hive" mentality of the cuckoos. To me it just felt right at the time of the design, and I must have applied it subconciously...
...heck, this whole design has been very subconcious to me!

Lol Herogirl, thanks for the vote, but there was no need for you to do what you did. I'd like to get atleast ONE win, but I would like for it to be in a fair way. It's unfortunate that you got banned because you had some great designs for the competition as well.

But anyways on to my design. I'm very sorry that I offended some of you by showing some of Dust's chest in the design. It was not my intention to do so, and I was very hesitant about doing it, but I went with it anyways, because had I covered it up, it wouldn't have looked as nice in my opinion. I tried to show as little skin as possible, which is why I completely covered her hands and feet as well. I refrained from showing too much of Dust's chest because I know what her religion stands for about females showing skin. So I was extra careful as to not "reveal" too much of her chest. Although the neckline is low, it's high enough to where very minimal to no cleavage is exposed. So once again sorry if my design is offensive to any. I would hope that just because of that little bit of skin showing, that it wouldn't keep people from enjoying the design or possibly voting for it.

I'll have an analysis for everyone's entry later tonight.

actually it's the tight outfit and the low neckline, considering she's muslim with a very strict dress code - she would've been up for execution.

but i threw those aside. to hell with it i say...i am celebrating the design, not the religion. i just pretended she changed her mind and accepted a lighter way of living the muslim faith.

i'm still feeling all celebrate-y...pryde said my design was bondage-kinky...i guess i'm due for some much needed "group fun". LOL.

no cleveland streamers, golden showers, fisting, and ritual blood-letting...just pure group fun...

I vote for Shade101's Dust.

It really seems to capture the character with an adult-like elegance.

As for the Beak costume, the only thing that I don't like is that he is unable to fly because that suit covers the functional portion of his wings.

Shade101
08-19-2008, 05:57 PM
Aljira's Surge- I have no idea what the hell everyone else is talking about, but I'm in LOVE with that pink strip in Surge's hair. It doesn't look bondage like to me at all, and in fact I think all the belt straps and leather is something that would be appealing to Surge's sense of style. To me bondage is layers upon layers upon layers of belts, straps, buckles, spikes, and piercings. I think she's still very lady-like but also a little wild. And that leather mini skirt idea was genius! I really like this design a lot.

AnkaleRa's Pixie- EHMAHGAWD! My baby's daddy! LOL. I don't believe anyone else could've pulled off wild, wife of frankenstein, hair like that except you AnkaleRa! The thing that appeals to me most about this design is the gothic inspiration and feel that this lovely design exudes. The coloring is amazing, and the wings are beautifully rendered. I used to hate superheroines in skirts and dresses until you and Aljira submitted these designs that totally changed my mind. I love this design, and those ankle breaking wedges she has on are much better than high heels or anything like that.

Josef F's Angel Salvadore- I'm always a sucker for ghetto fabulousness, and if I'm correct, my ghetto companions would approve of those boots and this design fairly easily. Especially the golden toe parts that can SHANK a person! The actual costume is very nice, and the frontal piece that drapes around the front part of the costume is also very nice. My one complaint is that I don't think Angel would be able to pull off the bald look very well.

Lockerogue's Wallflower- This design has a really cute look to it, but also a little sexilicious because of the exposed midriff. The jacket and Wonder Woman inspired boots go very well together! And you make the color orange work very well for a costume, because you used orange in your Sailor Venus design as well. Also the fingerless gloves give it a more "street" or "urban" appeal as well as the low rise pants. The one thing I'm concerned about it the little triangle in the middle of the top. I'm not sure what that is and what it's for. All in all, I think this design was very good, and I LOVE the urban look!
:note to all designers: Shade likes urban looks!

HiFi's Loa- I'm not very familiar with Loa at all, so excuse me if I say something stupid. The tattoos and multi colored sleeves clash I think, and I think it would've been better to not use as many colors on the sleeves as you did. The hair is flawless though, and her pose and figure are on point! But, I don't mean to sound like a meanie or anything, but I'm not sure that I'm really digging that multi-colored portion on her costume. I think it would've looked much nicer with silver on the sleeves as well. It's still a nice picture, but the design has just a few too many colors on it I think. I'm sorry if I'm sounding like a jerk.:frown:

Meathawq's Beak- I really like this design quite a lot, and I think it's amazing that you did it with only a bic pen and sharpies. The color is so evened out, and theres not evidence of lines from the markers or anything. The costume is very classic looking, but still modern and wearable. The piping bordering around the costume is spectacular, and I think it's an amazing design. One thing I must say though, is watch out with the background next time so it won't take away from the actual design. All that business in the background takes away from the design I think.

BruisedShin's DJ- I'm not very familiar with DJ either, but from the looks of your design he looks like a laid back cool cat. I like that the design looks as if it can funtion as day wear, nighttime club wear, skate wear, and a costume! It's all that in one. A multifunctional costume is always a plus! And I like the style of your art as well. This is a really nice design, and you did a great job.

Shade101's Dust- Eww Shade I can't believe you! It sucks! You made Dust show off her boobs and that's just not right! GO TO HELL!:evilangry:

Pryde15's Trance- This is also a multifunctional design. It looks suitable for everyday wear, nighttime wear, maybe even ballet. But it lacks that extra superhero UMMF! Maybe a nice pair of leather forearm length gloves would've made it more superhero like. And perhaps some different type of shoes instead of ballet shoes. Possibly ankle length boots or something? Or my personal favorite, 6 inch stiletto thigh high spike heel boots Other than that I really like it. I'm a little iffy about all the different colors though. Especially the tights being red.

KidIcarus' Indra- WONDERFUL! The colors, the design, the shoes, everything was wonderful. It's not too busy and not to bland. It's just right. I actually like the ribbing on his gloves and knee pads. And the piping on his abdomen is a great idea. I also love your style of art as well.

omg...my hands are hurting from typing so much...Whew! One more!

EscapeGoat's Stepford Cuckoos- Ouu...this is nice! It's a little bit futuristic, but I guess what you would consider high fashion as well. I like the colors very much, and the exposed shoulders are a very nice addition to the costume as well. One thing I'm not too certain of is the swimming suit bottoms with those jacket tops. Other than that, I love them!

Put my vote in for KID ICARUS! Indra is such a forgotten character, but I like him a lot and the purple + silver works very well. Also, I like that you gave him a modern, Uncanny 500 Bianchi inspired costume as if he joined the X-Men TODAY. That was smarttt!

I hope I can EVER FIND TIME for this game.

Thanks to those that voted me so far! I appreciate it! And thanks to my baby's momma for carrying our child. Plus, he makes one wicked Dust!

Great job everyone! All the designs look quite good! As I said earlier, we should totally be the creative consultants for all the X-Men students!

And I'm going to have to give my vote to...

My baby's Mamma and her sexualized, but VERY tasteful, Dust! You captured her religious ties, but allowed her to become her own woman as well. Plus the colors are perfect and I love the flowing parts of the coat. And the boots are fab-u-lous! My only suggestion is, why not take it even further and lose the veil? Let Sooraya fully step into the light. But yeah, other than that... BOOYAH!

Ouu!!! Thank you baby's daddy! I WUV YOU! xD

Also, don't forget to pick up baby Shaniqua from Kindergarten tomorrow. I have a luncheon with the office, and we'll be gone until 3 o'clock. Also don't forget to make hotel reservations for that "special" birthday treat I got for ya!

Don't know when voting ends, but Shade's Dust is my vote. It's cool, elegant, and a nice twist on the character's outfit.
