First of all, glad you're giving WS a try.

There's two ways you can do this:

Quick route- Wildstorm has just started the World's End storyline in which basically the world as we know it has been destroyed. The surviving heroes are presently trying to deal with this new world. For this you'll just need to pick up:

Wildcats #1 (came out July 31)
The Authority #1 (came out Aug 6)
Gen 13 #21 (came out Aug 21)
Stormwatch #13 (comes out this Wed. Aug 20)

Longer Route- If you are curious as to how all this happened, it would involve you starting with the stories Wildstorm: Armageddon, Wildstorm: Revelations, (both in trade) and Number of the Beast (trade is out Sept. 24).

Whichever way you go is up to you. As far as the new issues, The Authority seems to have gotten the most positive reviews. Wildcats and Gen 13 are getting mixed reviews and we're waiting to see how Stormwatch is received.

Also, here's the main website that basically lays out what I just did:

http://www.dccomics.com/sites/wildstorm_worlds_end/

Hope that helps.

There's also The Higher Authority (http://theauthority.ws/) for all your Authority needs

Striker... never failing to pimp his site.

Now we just need WSResource to come in here and ask for someone to write a review of this new fan's request to know more about the WSU... and for Bastion to say that it's all a fluke.

(PS Seraku, head over to the Official WS Boards for these and more inside jokes. We'd love to have ya  )

took your longer route + read the Midnighter series.

of all the World's end books so far Authority is my favorite, followed by Wildcats, I'm ambivalent about gen13 and PHD atm though.

the back ups are fun though, really interesting stuff since one of my only wildstorm experience prior being Sleeper which is reference :)

so is the Midnighter solo series still going? and if so is it reflecting events in the other books or is it a standalone series?

No, it ended since he'd pretty much stuck in Unlondon and the rest of the Authority

I think you don't have to read the Armageddon series to get into this. It is more important to have a little "get-to-know" with the characters. I really can highly recommend Alan Moores Wildcats run (there should be a Trade out on the market). I'm currently trying to get into Athority as well, but had no "Ebay luck" as I had with Wildcats so far.

As for Worlds end, I currently have the feeling that you don't have to read all of the four series to get what's going on. There have been little or no hints to any "bog picture" unifying those books, I rather feel they all are telling their own distinct story. So the number 1 issues should prove a great jump-on point...

True, that's why I suggested a "shorter route" being that you'd only have to read the current World's End titles. But the longer is there if you're curious.

Also, you're right that each team seems to be doing their own thing and no "bigger picture" is evident yet. Which is appropriate considering the state of the world.
But if you've seen the Lynch and Dane backup stories, you'll see that Lynch is the only one that seems to be suggesting a big picture right now in trying to reassemble Team 7 to help restore the world.

what should I read

once you get familiar with some of the characters and history, I suggest you read: Captain Atom: Armageddon. It's quite fun! ;D

so then to finally get this straight, are WS only publishing 4 titles now (Authority, Gen 13, Wildcats and Stormwatch)? if so what happened to Tranquility and Deathblow and if they are still publishing them i take it they have nothing to do with the current unlondon/ruined earth story.

(i know i could probably look it up, but i like to hear what people on here have to say)

Tranquility has been rumored to return as a mini series and Deathblow's now on Stromwatch: PHD so there's probably not going to be another solo series for now, but Deathblow will be featured in a back-up story drawn by Chris Sprouse

i think Grifter, after i have finished my current project which is replacing a lot of my individual comics with trades and HC's (must have bought close to 100 trades in the past few months) i'm going to attempt to get everything on your wildstorm trade list

didn't armageddon state that Tranquility removed itslef from continuity?

I think that's what it was alluding itself to, so it could continue without having to deal with too much of the World's End statues quo

We hope to find out for sure when Gail Simone does the next mini-series tentatively titled One Foot in the Grave if I remember correctly. But Welcome to Tranquility: Armageddon conviniently had Void teleport Maximum Man away before we could actually see what happened to the town.

Thanks for the info here, I'm also trying to get back up to date with Wildstorm.

I have things pretty clear, my one question(for now) is where does 'The Authority: Prime' fit in? I note that it's not part of Armageddon which makes me think I should read it before that - on the other hand I've read it's a sequel of kinds to Stormwatch PHD. In short, do I read Prime before or after Armageddon?
