Molly Hayes is a little bruiser, she doesn't need to concentrate, just hit stuff and stay awake.

Pixie's mind gets clouded from all of the caffeine, makes it hard to remember or focus. She couldn't remember her one spell or summon her little soul dagger. Megan was screwed.

Wow, this seems really promising. Haven't picked up a book in awhile, though I did keep pretty close tabs on Whedon's first year on astonishing. This seems really good though. From what I heard, Pixie was just like, a supporting character in New X-Men. When did she become the next big thing? Not that I'm complaining. I instantly like her. And I gotta say, I've seen a lot of grumbling about Greg Land's art, and... I didn't think it was bad. The best I've ever seen? By no means. Don't think he has a good handle on Emma, and Scott needs to CUT HIS HAIR!!! But other than that, I don't really see what the problem is. Granted, these 7 pages are all i've seen of him, but... I kinda liked it.

i think this preview is very, very good. pixie's boobs aren't massive, she looks like she's an average 14 year old girl, even though she's supposed to look young for her age. but hey, this is, what, six months after messiah complex or something, in their world? she's grown up a bit, and there's also the Darkchilde thing. she is very cool in these pages, and at least she doesn't go down without a fight. the writing was very 80's Claremont, which is very good. it took her character into a new light, and greg land is actually really good here, sorry to say! the emma and scott scene is sort of boring art-wise, but the pixie fight scene is very well-drawn in my opinion. and i'm no greg land fan or anything. its just good, give him that at least.

Well. That certainly was the most amusing thing I've seen all day. (That one scientist really looked just like Ben Affleck!!!)

Still, I've seen worse artists in the pages of X-Men. Even if he does rip off other people's artwork, and use celebrity likenesses without their knowledge or permission, and creates generic facial expressions that do not coincide with the emotions that character is feeling at that moment, and does not bother to use the same basic face for a character from panel to panel...

My argument is really losing steam.

i usually hate almost all greg land. i think the cover to 500 sort of sucked, for a landmark issue especially. this cover is decent, the next is decent... i think he's starting to re-develop a style rather than just copying others. he still copies, obviously, but i see less of that and more actual illustration. i think he really is improving, and i will give him that much.

Someone once said to me that I might not mind Greg Land's art so much if I didn't KNOW that he just traces (and re-traces) pics of models, celebrities and of course, porn.

But in the exact moment when the bat hits before your brain registers any pain? The bat seems to hit closer to the neck which should force the mouth to open at least.

Suprisingly, I'm actually enjoying Land's art in this preview so far. Much more so than I did in his 500 issue. Maybe because we don't have the Dodson's to compare it to. Anyway, while I think he'll do alright on this arc, I do hope he isn't on the title as regular penciller for very long.

I'd really like to see the Generation X Emma come back in some way... I know she's changed, but I know there's still something of her left in there. And this may be a minor quibble, but after the events of "Quest for Magik" in New X-Men, how does Pixie's spatula-thingy differ from the Soulsword? If Pixie were able to remember how to summon her little knife, would she be able to use it against her attackers? The Soulsword wasn't able to harm any non-magickal creatures; would the same hold true for Pixie's weapon?

Probably not, I suppose, since I'm sure Pixie's soul dagger possesses properties divergent from the Soulsword; and because the writers are going to clearly do their damndest to make us see hwo totally awesome Pixie is.

And this may be a minor quibble, but after the events of "Quest for Magik" in New X-Men, how does Pixie's spatula-thingy differ from the Soulsword? If Pixie were able to remember how to summon her little knife, would she be able to use it against her attackers? The Soulsword wasn't able to harm any non-magickal creatures; would the same hold true for Pixie's weapon?

Probably not, I suppose, since I'm sure Pixie's soul dagger possesses properties divergent from the Soulsword; and because the writers are going to clearly do their damndest to make us see hwo totally awesome Pixie is.

I've never had a problem believing the relationship between Scott & Emma. If anything I find it more believable than most relationships depicted in Marvel. My problem is with them appearing in so many comics that there's no firm "grasp" anymore on either character OR their relationship. Particularly with Emma. I love me some Emma--but when you have her in one comic being the snarky bitch 24/7--another where she's letting her soft side out--another where she's trying to play leader and be snarky but also be soft. It's too much back & forth. Not to mention the problems that arise with the "well when did this event take place in said character's continuity...they were 20 different places on 20 different missions in one month?." I buy Emma letting her soft side slip through around Cyclops--that tends to happen when you're in love and f***ing someone--but there's no consitency with it in between her appearances IMHO. I think stretching Emma so thin across the books will do more harm than good. Alot like what has happened with Wolverine over the years.

I still think the book has promise and the preview looks good aside from the OBVIOUS porn referenced/traced artwork. I'm still immensely disappointed with the announced core cast--immensely.

I was only pointing out that captain america would never do anything like get drunk to the point that it hinders his physical capabilities. Pixie should know better than to have herself in a situation like that.

It feels like for the first time in a long time we are going to have a solid few years of X-books...everything is sounding really good.

Lands Pixie is really not too bad at all in my eyes and I'm really glad to see her black streaks return!

I'm going to be optimistic that this will be the case, and with only the previews to go by, I would say that it's off to a good start so far. Land's art is looking unusually good, even if some of the panels are a little awkward (like the Cult member jumping on Pixie like her head was a trampoline), but I'm thinking he's caught wind of all the crap that fans say about his work, and he's trying to put some sort of quota on how many recycled/traced images he uses on the book. The writing is showing an improvement, though I'm hoping not all the dialogue will center around "like, totally" or another "Suck it!". I believe in Matt Fraction, though.

When that comic came out, in the Comic Book Journals forum I got into a highly vicious two day argument that revolved around the difference between hidden penis and enlarged camel toe.

I think the Writing seems improved over 500, and the Pixie naration was actually good. The Cyclops/Emma does need a little rest, hint to the writers WE KNOW SCOTT AND EMMA ARE HAVING KINKY SEX (please note caps are a poor attempt to get Marvel editorial board to notice, not a comment on the good people here, or the condition of my keyboard). Can we go to another couple for a bit please.

As for Lands art. I always get such mixed feelings with it. While the tracing can be excellent, well enough said. I am starting to think they should give the book totally to Fraction with Dodson only on art duties.
