OMG.. DUST!!!!

Greymalkin's fear of witchcraft makes me raise an eyebrow.
And Guggenheim has his own, "WHAT THE DEVIL!?!" I think I'll be on the lookout for a "What devilry?" now, to see if it's a fluke.
Still, seeing Magma take care of Dust is nice. Although, I'm curious to see how Sooraya reacts to having been seen naked by Greymalkin, for future reference, too. That's sort of a no-no for Ms. Qadir's own personal beliefs. Even if it's not her fault, I hope she doesn't beat herself up about it.
It looks like a fun preview, and I'm glad to see Wolfcub didn't get to one-shot Sunspot. That'd have been ridiculous.
The question also stands... who opened Magma's cell? And where are Blindfold and Dani?
I may be the only one, but I'm excited to see how this arc ends.

I also think the preview pages show some promises to the series. Glad we're gonna see some Sunspot and Magma action next issue.
I had the same expression with Greymalkin; seing Dust's last panel.... "Wow" (How could you Guggenheim?? )

Nice to see 'Mara getting to be a bit useful, and with some snark to her. "What did I just say?" Heh. I do think Wolfcub needs to get his eyesight checked, since he keeps thinking he's disemboweled people and it turns out they've only been lightly scratched.

I'd agree... you generally don't go from Amazing Spider-Man to a youth X-Title... unless he's just in for a fill in issue or two.
I know some people don't like the art, but I think this book has bigger problems than that. The art is serviceable.

That said, to all you whiners complaining about Yannick's work....he's got more talent than the lot of youse combined, so get over it. I think his work on this series has been great.

They don't look twenty-fiveish to me, but they don't quite look like the correct ages they're suppose to be either. They look like they're 18-20 to me. Not too many artists out there can draw a convincing teenager. That's what attracted me to Scottie Young's New X-Men designs. He was actually able to nail the appearance of their ages right. I wasn't even a fan of his work til I saw his New X-Men work.

Ray Snyder. Serge LaPointe inked Yannick in Civil War X-men, so I'd say the likelyhood in variation is in the inker.

16 year olds don't look all that different from 18 year olds honestly. I wouldn't say any of them look a day under 21.

Yeah, Medina did it too. Actually, I think Medina had a lot of the same ticks that Paquette does (indistinct characters, repeated poses/angles, slick "safe" style, limited emotional range, etc), but he was a bit more dynamic. They're both very solid genre artists imo.

I hope there's only that one panel of Dust naked and not any other in this upcoming issue.
It bothers me because I as a reader know her view on clothing. Dust is not supposed to be sexed up. It's a small betrayal of her character.
I wouldn't give a damn if any of the other female or male characters happened to fall into such a situation though.

Not to start a debate or anything, but how is it a betrayal of her character? It might qualify if on the next page she wakes up, realizes she's naked, does a few leisurely cat stretches, then strolls to the closet for a tube top and miniskirt, pausing only to limber up with a few jumping jacks first. (And if that's what happens, then sure, I'm with you.) But if she wakes up and is horrified to discover she's naked because it's such a violation of her religious beliefs, that's not a betrayal of her character; it's just an example of bad things happening to a character. (See: every other issue of X-Men ever.)

And that's why I used small before the word betrayal. The writer set it up so the readers gets to see some skin. That's the way I see it. Was it necessary to have Dust reform naked? Didn't her latest outfit transform with her compared to the days of past?

Even in her first appearance she was able to form/transform her clothing. However, there have been times when she didn't. At a guess, it takes extra concentration, and at the moment, she's barely or not even conscious.
Pixie a 14 year old girl, usually flat chested, does not wake up one day with a DD bra size!
Even early art of Pixie showed her well endowed. It's the flat-chest that was wrong. When we first saw her, she was wearing a frumpy sweater/turtleneck thing, but later, when in spandex, she was what you'd typically see in a superhero.

Anyway, I read the preview pages and... I don't really agree with her logic. Grinding or the passage of time would turn glass back into sand, sure, but isn't it extreme heat that causes sand to become glass? Why would using heat to turn glass into sand make any kind of sense at all? All it would do is melt the glass, I think...

Um... well... about the art... comparing to pretty much everything I've seen in the last few years, it's really bad. Or maybe it's just the washed out colors that are making me think it's less attractive. I don't know, maybe I'm just spoiled when it comes to nice, pretty, big colorful art. And I'm a girl. But to be honest the only young characters that I liked between New X-Men & Academy X were: Quentin Quire, The Stepford Cuckoos, Beak, Angel Salvadore, Dust / Blindfold, Anole, Elixir. Im still not sure about Pixie, Mercury, Prodigy

We don't know yet, but Greymalkin has mentioned something about Cypher. I've heard theories that Greymalkin could be anyone from Doug to Jeffrey Garrett (the teleporter that got stuck in ghost form). He's most likely someone new... or he's possessed by the Ghosts of Mutants' Future Past.

I know, right? I didn't get that, either. Main, actual, probably-not-a-Skrull-cos-Emma-would-know Scott has been acting weird (different) for a little while now... he's always been kind of a jerk, but abandoning the students and having sex with Emma in every Marvel title? Meh... The worst part is that it seems mostly everyone is glorifying Scott's actions. Feel free to correct me. O.o

It's good to see everything start to come together after what was a rocky start. I really hope Magma sticks around after this, I think she makes the line up very interesting. Yay for Dust! And I'm liking how Greymalkin is developing.
The question is, has the book got the staying power/reader interest now?

It will take a lot in this upcomign issue to salvage the entire arc. Even if this next issue is breathtaking (and i hate to sound negative but i doubt it will be.....at best it will be an improvement)....i do not know if one issue can really make up for four very unfortunate issues.

Sure there's a point. It's going to show that the younger kids still need the X-Men's help and that by throwing them to the winds they've continued their irresponsible training of the younger mutants. They ended up working for Pierce for crying outloud. This will lead to them distrusting Pierce and perhaps encouraging Magma or Dani or both to take a stand and take a group of younger mutants under their wing, making them the new Xavier role for this generation. It's a set-up for the series. That's on issue 5. And that hasn't even established it's full team. Can you read? Have you followed anything? New X-Men fans are NEVER HAPPY!

Actually, yes, I can read... and quite well and often for that matter. My posting was merely referring to the fact that most (not necessarily all) have found this first arc full of plot-holes, bad art, some cast members acting out of character, and just an overall let down. I hope they are setting it up for improvement. I want it to be a success. I want it to get on the ball and be a great book. I just don't know if it can with most fans feeling as disenchanted as they are. Maybe after Wednesday we will finally have some long-awaited answers that we have been anticipating these last few months.

Yeah... I always thought that most of the backround students had more interesting powers and abilities than half of the main cast. But, hell, I'd take a cameo over seeing them sent to comic limbo. Good thing they didn't show her thought bubbles eh? Probably filled with swear words.
Cessily being in San Francisco means that she's still affiliated with the X-men. So she might not join X-Factor now. That leaves Young X-men and Uncanny X-men. I doubt Mercury will join Young X-men, Guggenheim wants a small cast. So she may show up in an insignificant role in Uncanny. Legacy is still the Xavier book. X-Force seems very unlikely since she's not really a killer, she does have arm blades though so she fits in with the stabbityness of that series.

HAHA... can you imagine if there was an entire segment of Divided We Stand that only had panels of Martha sitting in the rubble, swearing her...well...brains off. I would totally read it and lose my sh*t.
I have to agree with Cessily possibly having a recurring role in Uncanny. Aside from her T-1000 blade arms, I can't really see her having anything in common with the X-Force team. Uncanny definitely seems the place for her... even though I would prefer her with X-Factor.

Martha is love. She needs to do more.
Cessily could still move to Detroit, it just seems unlikely at this point since SI and Manifest Destiny both have her in San Francisco. I think Julian might have a chance at X-Factor though. We haven't seen him in SF yet and he's pretty ticked at the X-men right now. Of course that might also mean he'll become a supervillain who needs to be taken down by X-Force.

Julian as a supervillain would definitely be interesting. Without a doubt, he has it in him. It definitely wouldn't be a big leap of faith to believe that he turned against the X-Men. It's strange that Martha just floats around in that container when this is the Marvel universe and they could simply build her an android body. Of course that would take away her iconic look. Giving her an android body would definitely open up some doors to develop her character a bit more but I must say that I love the fact that she is just a brain floating around in a jar... immobile. The fact that she is just a brain and could probably level the entire neighborhood with a single thought definitely adds to her appeal... for me anyway. I am sure most people find the concept of a disembodied brain kind of boring. To each their own, I suppose.

I feel bad for Wolf Cub, because he's been the figurehead for fan disappointment. I used to kind of agree with the conscensus that Cub had become kind of annoying and was being shown as a bit of a Wolverine rip off.
However, after going through and re-reading the series as a whole, I just dont feel that way. I actually really like what Guggenheim has done with Wolf Cub, and I think what he did is very much in tune with every (small) appearance Cub has had previously. In fact, I think he's the ONLY character that has been properly fleshed out in the series. Wolf Cub has always been a bit angry and unsure of himself, this series has shown that as well as shown him try and overcome that in his desire to belong somewhere and maybe even be an X-Man.
