Thats right.. TDK will pass "Star Wars" This weekend..
as of Sunday.. its only 19Million behind..
Granted if you adjust for inflation then Star Wars is so far beyound what TDK kan do its ridiculous.. but anyway..
TDK (Sunday 10 of August) 441.500.000
SW (Alltime) 460.998.000
Not bad.. REALLY REALLY NOT BAD!!
(Numbers are domestic..)
It looks like it MIGHT pass 500.. but it wont pass Titanic with its 600
PS: its still just #33 worldwide at this moment.. but its yet to open in places..

Hopefully Lucas gives the original trilogy another cinema run in a few years, might bump it past Titanic now the inflation is with it :)

So it's not actually beyond Star Wars then?

Don't quite count TDK out yet.
If the film stays the course for the next two months or so,
then it's not beyond the realm of possibilities that the TDK
will sink the Titanic.
Adjusting for inflation is for the nit-pickers!
Keep your fingers crossed.

Dear Friends,
Yes, I think in this case, adjusting for inflation has to be taken into account and is the more important measure. By that measure, DK is still nowhere in SW territory, in terms of overall popularity.
Sincerely,
Shaun

Well, allowing for inflation, I think GONE WITH THE WIND is still on top...

Yes, the Dark Knight is an amazingly successful film... but is it groundbreaking? It's a sequel in a highly-respected franchise with 70 years of history behind it's story and characters, studded with A-list talent and a marketing strategy that is cutting edge and massive.
Star Wars was, in essence, an indy film. It came out of nowhere and became a phenomenon that set hollywood, and the world, on fire. It changed how movies were made. It revived a genre and spawned countless imitators. It launched careers, and built an empire for it's creators. It put Harrison Ford on the map. It made household names out of nobodies. It grabbed pop culture by the short hairs and never let go.
I don't see how there's even a comparison.
