View Full Version : A bit of prayer, thoughts, etc. for my Mom would be really appreciated.

So, this is nowhere near as serious as a lot of these threads are but . . .

My Mom is down in Baton Rouge for a conference this weekend. SOMEHOW - we're not sure yet - she managed to cut the tip of her left middle finger off with her hotel room door. The details are sketchy, but it's apparently serious enough that the hospital called in an orthopedic surgeon at 10 on a Sunday night to look at her finger.

The latest report my dad has is that they may have to actually shorten the bone in the tip of her finger to get the skin to close back around it - they can't get it to stitch up right.

My Mom is pretty strong, but she's a bit high-strung and she's 250 miles away from home in a strange hospital. Any good thoughts, prayers, positive juju you all could send her way would be really appreciated.

And, please, no suggestions about suing the hotel. Mom's the clumsy type and these things just happen sometimes.

Ouch! My stepfather is a roofer, and he lost the tip of his ring finger when he slipped off the roof and his wedding ring got snagged on a gutter. That was the least of his problems. The finger healed up just fine, but he shattered his wrist and had to have pins inserted to set the bones.

I'm sure your mom will be fine, but I'm sending my good vibes for good measure.

I'll give a thought, a prayer, a hope, and a quote for your mother:

"While you may be having a bad experience remember!, this can always become a good story."

Done.

I cut open the tip of a finger, to the bone, with a lawnmower blade (and recovered completely) so I can sympathize.

Here's to success for your mom's recovery and to some strong nerve meds for your father.

Really, hope she'll be ok. Hospitals can be scary for even minor things.

Ok, so the visual I'm getting is just SO GROSS...

... but I do hope everything is all right with her. Ugh.

This hurt me just reading about it. The pain must have been indescribable, sure the instinct is to think "oh, it's just a finger" but it's not just anything when it's your finger and it's just been sheared by a blunt trauma and you're bleeding and *shudder* ok I'm gonna stop now. Gods.

Suffice it to say I empathize. A lot.

Here's hoping for a good reconstruction and a swift recovery.

Certainly will be sending good vibes her way. Just slamming your finger in a door is painful enough! And to have it happen away from home is really terrible. I know she will be fine, after a while. For now...OW.

Umm, New Orleans and Baton Rouge are quite a distance away from each other, in different areas of the state. I know this because I live here.

hmm thought it was classified as the entire area but i did have a doubt, and should not have posted it sorry

Aside from my home state of SC i really didn't spend much time anywhere else in the south east "cept NC GA and a strange, terrible, and joyous week and a half in Lafayette and iota LA

but an attempt to lighten the mood never comes easy when someones family member is injured, i may have choked under the pressure

I am also extraordinarily dumb.

Don't be so hard on yourself. I of all people should be the last person to be unforgiving considering my recent experiences on the board.

Lafayette is a cool place, good cajun people there, good food. My sister went to college there, to become a teacher.

And since you've never been, I'd say you owe it to yourself to come down and see New Orleans proper. If you enjoyed Lafayette, just wait, you ain't seen nothin' yet.

Certainly. What a terrible thing to happen on such a trip. And I can't imagine the pain and fear. I smashed a finger once and that was bad enough.

It can't be any fun in a hospital, let alone a strange one.

Keep it together, Sally's Mom.

All I'm going to say is that it takes a really selfish and immature person to take a thread that is supposed to be about Sally's mother, and make it about them.

Anyways, Sally, I'll be praying for your mom.

I hope she gets better soon.

On the phone with mom - she's okay, She didn't lose any bone, but her finger is slightly shorter. She's got the darvocet and has decided to stay at her conference. So that's good.

Whew.

Thanks to all of you!

Hey I just came on tonight....so I hope your mom gets better. Yeah I can understand how it would suck to be in a strange hospital away from everyone. I hope she gets better and good luck with the surgery.
