EDIT: Title should read "Left me a gift" but i was detracted by the very cat i was bragging about.
Anyway,
Dead mouse, (dont worry no pics)
but this mouse was deader than any dead mouse i ever saw, it was....disemboweled.
The cat has proven herself a worthy huntress
And she left it at my door, despite my roommate taking care of her for a year prior to my moving in here she recognizes ME as alpha.
(what? you gotta celebrate the little things)

Maybe she just thought you looked hungry.

Mine brought me a mole once.
Funny, too, since it was the cat who you could use as a couch cushion if you wanted to, he's so laid back.

Maybe the cat needs a job for some extra income because that is one cheap, gross ass gift.

I had one kitty that dragged home a muskrat for me.
It was twice her size.

Damn, Corr! Even your cats are overacheivers!

LOL! How did you react to that one?
I was housesitting for my brother once, and his cat brought me dead mice, twice. I was horrified, but as silly as it may sound, I didn't want to hurt his feelings, so I pet him like I appreciated the "gifts."

They're so proud of themselves, aren't they? You don't want to crush their little spirits. My dog has killed 4 birds in her life, and I never know how to react. I didn't really want to encourage her to kill more birds, but I also didn't want her to think she did something bad, since she was just being a dog. Fortunately, where we live now, the birds and critters are smart enough to stay out of the fenced in area, so she can't get to them.
Hehe. None of my dogs ever killed anything, but they've certainly tried. Walking them used to be a nightmare, because they'd constantly go after birds and squirrels, and drag you along with. One time, one of our dogs actually ran between my mom's legs to get at a squirrel. Seeing my mother run backwards as she was being pulled by the dog, then having to jump a curb...well, that's a memory I've cherished for many years.

My cat used to leave me half-animals on the porch all the time. They're not leaving you a gift, they're SHARING.

BnL will note the difference:

Unlike most cats, many dogs might not even want to kill it. They just like to run and chase. My brother's dog used to do that to lots of animals, even slowing down a bit so he didn't catch them, when it was obvious he could have.

not eat the green wobbly bits is all. Probably eaten all the good meat and left you nothing but brains and guts. At least that's my hunting cats used to do. With birds all you would find is feathers and claws. It's not like they weren't fed every day either but some cats I've had that started as strays were good hunters and liked a nice fat squirrel, chipmunk, or quail from time to time.

This is very true. I've even known dogs that have accidentally killed things while trying to play with them.
That said, both my dogs have had definite intent to kill. My last dog had a very efficient manner of killing mice. She would trap the mouse with one paw and hold it in place while she smacked it a couple of times with the other paw. We used to find flattened mice all around the backyard. Annabelle, my current dog, is just a hunter through and through. She digs trenches to lie in and crouches behind bushes so she can stalk her prey.

My old dead dog once kicked a cat's ass at my Aunt's house. The neighbour's cat used to have the run of the place, and came wandering in through the patio door one night we were visiting. Last thing he expected to see was Jake - this greying, old, Scottish terrier with a bum hip - sat there. The thing just froze, and I swear I hadn't seen that dog move so quickly since he was a pup. Caught this cat with a proper swipe that drew blood before it got away.
Considering how much trouble his hip gave him in later life, I'll always remember Jake's burst of energy quite fondly. Sorry, cat lovers.

My family had these three dogs at one point, a Samoyed Husky, a St. Bernard, and a collie that was much older than the other two (she had been my grandfathers dog at the time of his passing). Anyway, one time the two younger ones distracted the neighbour's dogs while the old collie snuck up on them and attacked from the flank.

That's awesome. I think that'd be really cool to watch.

My cats routinely beat up the neighborhood dogs.
A couple of them have fantasies of taking down the neighbors' cows.

Your cats would love my neighbourhood. There's a robin's nest just above eye level outside the front door of my apartment building. The babies are so cute! At least, on the rare occasions when they poke their heads out.
