Just got this tpb and I quite enjoyed it. None of the "fill-in" art felt like filler at all, and each story seemed to have the appropriate art for the theme and tone of each story.
Got to say though, I'm not sure if the series has any overarching direction to it. Not that it's completely necessary, but I'd like to see if Matty's got some kind of final goal or destination.

Well when your fill-in artists are of Danijel Zezelj's caliber, you don't have too much to worry about.

I had this issue after the second trade, but then I recently re-read the first two, and went out brought three and four, and realised I don't really mind if it does or doesn't, it's just darn good comics.
DMZ more than most comics is really about a place and the people who live there. I've been wondering how long this will run and I think it is entirely possible that the war won't end during the run of the book.
I thought the issue about the DJ and the club was my favorite in this trade.

I'm not through with all the trades yet, but I don't care if it is going anywhere. I pretty much knew from the first trade that the premise of the book was an AWESOME platform from which any number of cool stories could be told. Ideas like war, occupation, resistance, and the power of media, have kind of become permanent features in our social landscape these days. When I'm reading DMZ I feel like I'm looking at a reflection of that landscape through a carnival mirror. I have definitely had the thought that Baghdad 2005 or Georgia 2008 might not be that different than Matty's NYC. For me at least, that increases my enjoyment and engagement with the story.
P.S. I know that B. Wood sometimes posts here - so sorry if I've read too explicit a political context into your story!

Well the war didn't start in the book - we haven't even been shown in full as to how it started - so I'd say that's a fair bet.

I seem to remember reading that Brian Wood saying that DMZ could go on as long as 5 years (60 issues or so) as long as sales permit.
Hope that makes you fan-boys happy.

Sales have been good enough on monthlies and excellent on trades to ensure that it will run for as long as I have planned, which is in the 60-70 issue range.
