Daaamn... I know a lot of people weren't happy with the circumstances surrounding his departure from South Park... but I find it hard to imagine anyone familiar with his body of work is anything but saddened to hear he's gone.
Deepest and most sincere condolences to all who knew and loved him, including his legions of fans.
Thanks for the memories, Mr Hayes.

I'm afraid several sites have confirmed this, including the AP. Apparently, Mr Hayes had suffered a stroke around the time of the South Park / Scientology controversy, and today he suffered a second stroke along with a heartattack. Already suffering the debilitating aftereffects of the first stroke, the second one and the heartattack were too much. Sadly, he was alone when it happened, and by the time he was found it was too late. Attempts to revive him failed and he was pronounced dead at the hospital.
He was very talented and beloved by many. I hope that those who had been upset by the controversy surrounding his religion and his departure from the South Park television show can forget that and just be thankful for and reminiscent of his talent and the enjoyment he gave to millions.

Let's not forget Hayes' starring role as TRUCK TURNER, as perfect an example of the blaxploitation film as one could hope to see (and that is said with genuine affection).

Thanks for the memories, Mr Hayes.
I can separate his weird ass Scientology stance from his overall life, because I see him as a victim of scammers, who were more interested in taking his money to support their cult than his actual well being.
So God bless you, Mr. Hayes. Or Allah, or whichever version you believed in before L. Ron Hubbard.

What did they do?
I just checked the edit history, they totally vandalized it, replacing the entire page content with the word "PWNED" spammed over and over. They did it several times, and each time it was reverted, and now the page is locked.
Shameful and immature are only the beginning of the words that could be used to describe such a despicable act. Even if you disagree with something the man did or believed in, or you just plain had a poor opinion of him, there's such a thing as respect for the dead.
His family, his friends, and his fans deserve better than to have to see that garbage.

BTW whodda thunk that an informative site where the public has access to the content and can change it at will would be a bad idea?
Oh wait I DID!!

I'm not normally too touched by the passing of a celebrity, but 'Hot Buttered Soul' is one of my all time favourite albums & the theme from Shaft is magnificent. I'm sorry I only saw Hayes once at Glastonbury 5/6 years ago, I'll miss not having the chance of seeing him again.
So basically I'm a tad upset with his passing & wish his family the best at this time.

his spirtual beliefs were his own damn buisness in my book.
Not if he was tricked or conned into them to get his money.
That said, they don't hurt his legacy. Its easy to separate the two things, I think. Anyone who doesn't respect Hayes accomplishments and who's sullying his memory is being immature. The Scientology is relevant to talk about, but he's hardly the bad guy in that situation--David Miscavige and his vultures are.

Geez I hope this isn't prophetic. And as morbid as it is I haven't been able to not think about it since Issac died after Bernie. God Forbid.
Rest in peace, Issac and thanks for the ultra groovy music.

We can only hope that Samuel L Jackson proves as capable of dodging the proverbial bullet in real life as he is most of the time in his screen roles.

Ugh. Estelle Getty, Bernie Mac, and NOW Isaac Hayes? What terrible news. I liked Hayes' music, and his role in South Park was genius. I'm sad to hear the news, and certainly hope we won't lose another major talent anytime soon.

Damn, Hayes is gone, and just as I was getting acquainted with his work.
It'll be interesting to see how he is remembered, since I, like many people, first encountered him through South Park and thus assumed he was primarily a vocal soul artist. Yet much of his classic work is primarily instrumental and showcases his talents as an arranger and composer. I hope that in the long run it's for the latter. He will be missed.

Someone is out to get black legends, that's for sure. Morgan Freeman escaped - if I were Samuel L Jackson I'd go find a fallout shelter to hide in for a bit.

After getting through a remarkably quiet week without a single controversy or racketeering lawsuit, the Church of Scientology was dealt another bruising body blow with Isaac Hayes's death over the weekend. As much as the Church is expected to miss the singer/songwriter's hot buttered soul and totemic cultural presence, Hayes's "friend" and generally unreliable Fox source Roger Friedman notes in today's touching eulogy how the Church wrung every last cent from subpar live performances after his 2006 stroke.
And seeing as such allegations clearly wouldn't be insidious enough to defend his late pal's honor, Friedman stops a gold chain link short of blaming the Church outright for Hayes's death:
There are a lot of questions still to be raised about Isaac Hayes’ death. Why, for example, was a stroke survivor on a treadmill by himself? What was his condition? What kind of treatment had he had since the stroke? Members of Scientology are required to sign a form promising they will never seek psychiatric or mental assistance. But stroke rehabilitation involves the help of neurologists and often psychiatrists, not to mention psychotropic drugs — exactly the kind Scientology proselytizes against.
