The book just arrived in the store, and I saw it is by DeMAtteis, my favorite writer. I read in the back of the book what's the story about and I realized something: In the extras of Kraven's last hunt, DeMatteis says that he had this Captain Marvel that later bacame a BAtman story, that ended up to be Kraven's Last Hunt that had the enemy defeat the hero and take his place, and had the whole Death and resurrection thing, so reading the overview I imagined that it's kind of this story. So my question is: Is this as good as I imagine it to be?

I strongly recommend it.

It's a death and rebirth story for the Joker that's really about cycles of violence. I don't want to give too much away, but I loved it.

why doesn't dematteis get more work?
is it by choice?

his spectacular stuff was great, this storyline from shadow was great...

He's still prolific. He's got another Hero Squared project coming out from BOOM! Studios, he's writing some stories for Marvel's Spider-Man Family title, he's working on "Savior 28," he's always got television and animation scripts floating around for production, and he's the editor in chief of Ardden Entertainment.

Great read, if it currently isn't a part of the official continuity then it damn well should be. It’s awesome analyst of the character.

I got it, haven't read it yet, but it looks amazing. Art doesn't look so bad, in fact I think I liked it as I flipped through the pages, I'm not reading comics to see the art tough, so...

DeMatteis has done much work for DC, and I think a little more in marvel, plus he has done some independents. Latetly though he hasn't done much, but I would love him to, he is a great writer! I await his new Spider-Man story like crazy!!

DeMatteis also wrote the excellent Poison Ivy story Hothouse (in the 'The Collected LotDK' tpb) and Batman:Absolution

are there any others?

thats weird, comics are a visual medium, a great deal of the story and feelings should be conveyed to the reader from the art alone...the words kinda just add clarification and detail. i can acknowledge a good story with bad art like going sane has, but if it doesnt have good art its not worth the money imo. I can find just as good stories elsewhere if need be. to each his own i guess..

I don't know, I have met guys that reading comics for the stories and guys reading for the art. I am with the first. It's not that I don't look at the art, but I can tolerate a great story with not good art, though I can't see ugly art even if the story is perfect, and I can read an ugly story even if the art is amazing. I was looking at the art today and it's not that bad, I kind of like those old school art.

i know dematteis did at least one batman/spider-man crossover. the one with joker and carnage, drawn by bagley. it was cool.

i think he MAY have done another as well

I really enjoyed this back in the 90's. It was a breath of fresh air foor an overused character at the time.
