The way I see it July was already a skip-month, no? wasn't there no FC in July?
so, we get the July issue in august and then there's no issue for the rest of august and we get the next one in september?
or since we got an issue in august are they skipping september and we don't get a new issue till October?
I'm confused.

So not quite a skip month. More like a skip 2 weeks. Given that the other issues were supposed to ship in the last week of the month, we can assume that, if things had gone as planned, it would be almost 2 whole months.

There's basically been a six-week gap between every issue of Final Crisis. So "skip month" won't mean anything (unless the next issue gets pushed back). But I think for narrative purposes they're positing a gap in the story between #3 and #4, and it seems that a lot of the tie-in books will fit into this space.

It's the disease of -artists too slowitis-that is causing delays beyond what was planned. The changes in artists is what ruined Final crisis.

Actually, I think it's the exact opposite - the additional fill-in artist is so the book won't be even more delayed...

Judging from the discrepancies between script and art, I'd hazard it is also a case artist turning out to be a bit too crap to be trusted with the more important bits of the story.

I know Civil War ended 2 months later then expected. But that was because eveyone and their grandchildren were writing tie-ins.

Eh, no. It was because Steve McNiven was very late, and everyone and their grandchildren were doing tie-ins to cover that. Admittedly, the event was put together very last minute, and he hadn't gotten any lead-in time to speak of, so he really shouldn't be blamedd for that.

I heard McNiven got hella sick around the time.

Issue #3 was a week late due to printer problems. September's issue was always planned to happen the way it's currently scheduled. Basically, within the story, the Flashes were supposed to be landing in September and stories released this month would fill in the gap. From a production standpoint, it was likely to give Jones some more time.
Also, thematically, it fits in with Morrison's storytelling. He's showing us the set up and the aftermath, but not the action. We don't see Darkseid take over the world, we see him prepare to unleash his plan, and then the results. Skipping a month really kinda works on all levels.
But yeah, September. It's all good. :-)

One part was he was slow, I believe. It was Millar, on the other hand, who was deathly ill which also contributed to the delays. The tie-ins did factor in, but it was mostly to get caught up with the main book for that week. McNiven might've been sick, but it was mainly Millar who was sick with Crohn's (sp) disease.

Actually, all parties involved have basically said that editorial and writing glitches/delays (Didio and COUNTDOWN forcing reworks to the script, plus Morrison taking a long time to write it) are more to blame.
JG Jones isn't a quick artist, sure, but without those other problems he'd have had the time he needed to do all the art himself.

Yeah. Now it's looking like October 15th will see the release of Final Crisis #4 and October 29th will see the release of Final Crisis #5. Two in one month? Not too shabby.

I like what I've read of Planetary and just plan to buy the big ass collections when it's all done.
and I'm not really complaining about FC in my last post, just saying I don't think it'll be out in October.
I'm broke lately so I like that all the books I get right now are bimonthly or otherwise seldom:
winick's titans
asbartbw
final crisis
new avengers
glamourpuss
the man with no name
as long as i have enough to buy one comic a week, because of how infrequently these books come out, i can still pretty much keep up
i have also pretty much ended up buying walking dead and ex machina whenever they come out because the friends that picked them up are not as reliable about getting their pulls to me quickly as they used
but still those books come out rather infrequently too.
anyway, but I guess I am guilty of this with all-star bats...you can put me suicide watch for that. when did the last issue come out? Like March, geez.
how long has it been with planetary? 3 years?

I think #7 is delayed until 2009 sometime.
DC F's up again. They seemed to have not learned a thing from the Wonder Woman relaunch, or the Action debacle or.........any number of other similar examples. If nothing else, DC will most likely put the trade out month later at longest, so we all might as well just wait for that then try reading an already piecemeal story every other month. I wonder how it affects the spin offs?

Actually, this is different from those. The scripts are being rewritten to include the stories that Morrison wasn't originally supposed to tie into. "Last Son" and "Who Is Wonder Woman?" were delayed because of issues with the creative teams. It has nothing to do with Morrison, Jones and Pacheo being slow.

As someone who was only reading and collecting the main series, this extended skip month / delays really are just working to make me lose interest in the series as a whole.

The skip month means more sales for Marvel.
All joking aside, I'm really enjoying Final Crisis and Superman Beyond and a few other tie ins but it's odd to only have 3 issues out compared to Secret Invasion's 6 issues.

It's not delayed. It hasn't been solicited. The spin offs seem to be coming out.

A monthly book not being solicited monthly is delayed. Sugarcoat it however you'd like.
Was the Legion of 3 Worlds suppose to have a 2 month gap between issues 1 and 2? They might as well have started it a month late. And that's just the issues that were supposed to be out already. There is certainly more potential for lateness with the other books yet to come.
As much as I prefer DC to Marvel, I gotta give Marvel credit. They seemed to have learned from their Civil War lateness. Both WWH and now Secret Invasion, both fairly average but enjoyable stories, come out on time. And I have picked up all of SI and a fair amount of tie ins. Too bad DC just can't seem to figure things out anymore.

Planetary #1 came out in 1999. Planetary #26 came out sometime in 2007, and had a cover date of December '06. According to writer Warren Ellis, artist John Cassaday started drawing Planetary #27 in June of 2008.

I don't think you can really compare a title like "Planetary" to big event series like "Final Crisis". Events like FC are meant to be central pillars for an entire universe of titles, and I think they should come out as quickly as possible to maintain interest and momentum, and also because other titles and plotlines are often dependent on them.
The big event series usually start in early summer, like summer movie blockbusters, and I think they should also end in the summer, either by limiting the series to just a few issues (possibly giant sized), or by putting it out biweekly. The ongoing titles can then leave crossover mode and go back to normal in September, as the kids go back to school (I like to pretend that kids still read comics.)

It might actually be fair to compare FC to PLANETARY. Large in scope, beyond otherworldly (both in story and in the mindscapes of the guys who are writing them), not easy to follow but still possible to follow....
And FC is definitely not a typical big event, because it's not really crossing over into anything except its own specific miniseries and one-shots. The regular ongoings are seriously doing their own thing - heck, some characters seem to be in their own different worlds in all their different books at the same exact time.
