Evening ladies and gents!
I need something new to read! Love comics, read preacher, fables, 100 bullets, american virgin (r.i.p. :'( ) the boys, bone, and anything ennis, miller, millar, bendis, azzarello or Jim mahfood cause he rules. Anyway, i need to ask you, gentle forum goer- What should i pick up next? The more obscure and weird the better, i like the strange ideas etc, but i do need to be able to find and purchase it.
Sio basically, i need opinions, and if there is one thing you guys do well, it's opinions! :P
Cheers guys!

Thanks very much sire! I've read the leauge of extraordinary gentleman, and i've dabbled in sandman before. I was considering Transmetropolitan, as i like Darrick Robertson's art in the boys. Can you post me a capsule review and synopsis of your suggestions? =D

Sure thang.
Sandman - Seems to get more intriguing with each volume. Said to be a comic for intellectuals, it is very understandable despite its disconnected stories and deep subplots. If anything, make sure you read the fourth volume, Season of Mists.
Transmetropolitan - Think Hunter S. Thompson in the future. Robertson's art is suitably balls-out. First two issues may turn you off, but stay for that third issue and you'll see an early example of its genius.
The Other Side - Jason Aaron knows his Vietnam stories, and here he juxtaposes the experience of a young American soldier with that of a young Vietnamese soldier. Cameron Stewart's art is cartoony but brutal.
Industrial Gothic - A really fucked up miniseries by writer/artist Ted McKeever that deals with deformity, love, and life. Hard to shake away. Art is disturbing, seemingly from the hand of a tortured man.

Thanks for the opinions!
The first few sandman have various DC universe elements don't they? I hear tell that martian manhunter turns up in the first few volumes. Do you recommend starting there or skipping forward? Will i miss out on anything?
Transmetroploitan sounds good, i'll pick up the first trade methinks.
I've read the otherside! The name escaped me. That's the one where the US soldier halucinates a talking gun and zombies and is genrally very chilling am i right?
As for industrial gothic, fucked up+ tortured art seems good to me, i shall flick through it if i find it.
Thanks! anymore from anywhere?

The first Sandman trade features brief appearances from a few DC characters. But they're never really the focus, with the exception of Constantine in issue 3, I believe.
A lot of people will tell you to skip the first trade, but I wouldn't. It has two of the best Sandman stories of the series (in the middle of the trade). Plus, little things that happen in each trade often have ramifications later in the series.
Yep, you've definitely read The Other Side.
The last recommendation I'll make here: Black Hole by Charles Burns. The series took 10 years to finish. It's about a group of teenagers living in the woods because an STD has left them mutated and disfigured. Thankfully, the story is never preachy about sex or disease. It simply illustrates characters in despair and confusion. Beautiful symbolism throughout.

That synopsis made me smile and freaked me out a little. How long is it if it's a decade worth of work? Is it generally available in trade? I shall keep an eye out for it anyhow. you've been most helpful, thank you sah!

It's around 300 pages or so, collected in one full trade. Very nice deal, really.

If you are Ennis fan you must read Hellblazer. That is if you havent already read it.
Sandman Mystery Theatre - Great early Vertigo title. Its Noir done very well with nice art by Guy Davis.
There are so many gold corns in Vertigo. Is it a certain genre or type of comic you are looking for ?
Minies i would recommend Scene of the Crime by Brubaker,Lark and Unknown Soldeir by Ennis.

You like Az? Pick up his Deathblow trades from WS (2006-2008). Deathblow talks to his imaginary friends, has a family that he doesn't care about, his 10 year old kids try to kill him, and he participates in a war between stray dogs...
I'm serious.

OBS i forgot the DC imprint forums thing i still think its Vertigo forum....
Sleeper - Is IMO best comic by Brubaker and Sean Philips. A very cool Noirish superhero like spy thriller if that makes sense.
Authority vol 1 by Ellis and co. My favorite superhero team book.
Wildcats vol 2,3 by Casey,Sprouse,Sean Philips is great.
Ex Machina is one of the best things done by BKV.
