CONTAINING MULTITUDES

More San Diego creator talk tells me that the Jim Shooter’s "Legion Of Super Heroes" title ends with issue #50.

It will be replaced with a new Tony Bedard LSH project, and the Levitz/Giffen Legion project will also see publication.

I'm also told that the junior book "The Legion Of Super Heroes In The 31st Century," is also coming to an end with issue 20.

The future seems an uncertain place.

Also the light is green beside the tibit.

So what do you all think of this ? :frown:

I hope that means Jim Shooter will be announced as heading up either Dark Horse's Magnus/Solar/Gold Key comics or Valiant Entertainment's superhero universe.

Whichever one is ready to put out new comics first.

That Shooter's Bloody Coup in taking over DC from Dido is now set in motion.

I can't say it's much of a surprise. I was excited to see Shooter back on the Legion title but the stories didn't live up to the expectations. I got tired of the whole bureaucracy vs the Legion bit.

Hopefully the new titles will bring glory back to the Legion.
Long live the Legion!

I was pretty sure the current Legion book was ending with issue 50 already. It's kinda a shame since I have been enjoying Shooters run so far.

Now the thing about Bedard taking over has me a bit worried though. I was not impressed with his fill in run between Waid and Shooter at all, but that may have been more do to the art on those 6 issue which I just didn't like at all. If they are starting over with a new number one it does make me belive that this will be something different than current book. Either a continuation of the Action Legion, or god forbid a mix and match version with characters from all 3 versions.

Lightning Lad as a complete screw up.
Saturn Girl as his personal submissive sex toy.
Light Lass... team slut.
Karate Kid and Trips, off to Countdown (that was a little late, huh?)
Cos? Nowhere to be found.
Brainy sells out to corporate.
Invisible Kid as the new Legion go-to-guy.
Ultra Boy as a gangbanger.
Chameleon with zero personality.

Good riddance.

I almost dropped this thing, but I'll keep it around now that I know that maybe there is hope. And I know I'm in the minority here, but I really hope this doesn't become the Geoff Johns Legion. You know why I liked Waid's run? They ACTED LIKE TEENAGERS.

Oh, and I forgot...

Collassal Boy's power being changed back to growth with no explanation, even after we have an established origin for his character that says otherwise. Shooter did that just because he said he could get away with it. Read that in an interview.

I think Shooter has done a damn good job of turning the title around. Yes, he's still got the dated sexism, but in general the stories were headed in the right direction. I always found it odd that everyone at DC gets to write Shooter's Legion EXCEPT Shooter! He got stuck with Waid's bad idea, and had to make do.

I've heard for months that the current series was toast and that the Johns' retro-Legion was going to be the new "real" Legion, but the assumption was always that Johns was going to be a part of it. Bedard comes out of left field. He's been on the record as liking what Waid did the Legion, so this makes me a bit nervous, but I'm willing to give him a shot. I know many people rave about him, particularly Negation, so I'm eager to see what he can do, especially if he's got the "real" Legion to play with!

Lying in the Gutters is far from a 100% reputable source, I don't care what color the light is.

A few weeks ago, he said Shooter was on for the long haul.

A few months ago, he said Shooter had already left the book.

I agree. I won't be willing to believe this rumor until I see some more credible evidence.

Hello, I'm new at this board but as a die-hard Legion fan since the late 70s I feel that i have to contribute to the discussion surrounding the Final Crisis outcome... since I'm hoping that the old team will finally come back as a regular series.

Still, I regret Shooters probable departure cause his writing made me care for the Threeboot Legion much more than Mark Waid ever managed to achieve. I hope that he at least gets to finish his storyline...

As for Bedard, I loved his writing on Negation for Crossgen. He certainly underachieved in his recent Legion guest stint, but this was a rather difficult task as his only job was to clean up Mark Waids boring attempt to tell an actual story and to clear the field for Shooters new beginning. I am sure he will do better if given the chance.

Karate Kid and Trips, off to Countdown (that was a little late, huh?)

Question: How do you know that Shooter sent KK and Trips off to their deaths in Countdown?

From all experiences of KK was that of the original Val Armorr that even stated he died previously in Lightning Saga?

And Triplacate girl was that of the Orginial Legion in Countdown, so if she was Waid's Legion in Countdown, explain why she didn't split her bodies.

Now I haven't read Countdown, but it was my assumption that it was actually Cosmic Boy that took them out of the picture in #43.

Edit: as for the rumor I'm not too happy if Tony Bedard does another Legion story. I wasn't that impressed with his Issues.

I've been hearing rumblings for months. Sometimes they matched or were close to Rich's rumblings, other times somewhat contrary. The only real surprise in his latest blurb is the addition of Bedard's name. What I've heard has come through writers and artists who shop where I shop.

I am almost positive the Trips and KK sent to their deaths in Countdown were the ones from Action. Hence the reason neither of them being seen in Superman and the Legion of Super-Heroes.

I am feeling this has more to do with L3W. So most likely we are getting a new ongoing. And they haven't stated that Bedard is getting an ongoing. I am still holding out for a Johns ongoing.

Wow. Pretty strong venom against Shooter's current run on LSH. I was planning to buy up the back issues from when he took over from Mark Waid. I guess I better hold off and see another DC series I should buy up on the past year.

I've enjoyed the Shooter Legion because it was a vast improvement on the Waid and Bedard Legion we had to suffer through. I hated Mark Waid's version of the Legion and hope that it will all be wiped out after Final Crisis.
"Eat it, Grandpa!" was the most stupid battle cry I've ever seen in a comic and it didn't do anything to endear the Waid Legion to me, a longtime Legion fan (since the Cockrum/Grell days of the 1970s).
I was a little underwhelmed by the Shooter Legion and it definitely wasn't as good as I'd hoped, but it was better than what had come before it and I hate to see him leave the Legion -- except if it's Geoff Johns who is replacing him.
I think Johns writes some of the best comic book stories being published today and even on a bad day he's more solid than most other writers who are hot these days.
I did think Shooter finally gave Chameleon Boy a lot more personality than Waid or Bedard and I think Shooter was really trying to give the rest of the Legion their own personalities, whereas Waid and Bedard wrote them all, except Brainiac 5, as the same character. The girls were all alike and so were the guys. A lot of posters may disagree, but I don't think Waid and Bedard gave any of this version of the Legion that much personality. They were all cardboard cutouts of the old-but-updated Legion.
I hope Shooter moves on to another title at DC or like has been mentioned before the Dark Horse revivals of Magnus and Solar or at the new Valiant.
He's a great talent that has been away from comics for too long (and maybe that had something to do with the way he wrote this new version of the Legion).

I mostly agree with this.

Eat it Grandpa was the dumbest slogan ever.

This series was my first Legion book ever. I thought it was solid throughout but never spectacular. While i prefered Kitsons art to Manapauls, I prefer Shooters characterizations to Waids (Well.except when Waid was writing Supergirl. Then I thought he shined). I did enjoy Waids run but I liked that Shooter seemed to be trying to flesh out the characters more.

I'd be more bummed about this rumor of Shooters run ending, but I did really enjoy Johns Superman and the Legion of Superheroes story. If that is what is coming down the pike, I will check it out.

My two major quibbles with Waids Legion were his incredible uninteresting "Underagers versus adults" conflict - it was just so lame! - and the problem that Waid did not even start to bother with characterization. His Legionnaires were bland carbon copies, there was no feeling of history, of hierarchy, of who likes whom, he just took the colourful costumes and grouped them up just as he felt was best this month...

Shooter solved BOTH of these problems. He just ignored the underager rubbish and took the carbon copies and gave them some personality. of course he could not succeed on every level in just 8 issues, but he finally made me feel for these characters - I really want to know what happens next and how everything turns out.

At last, there are a story and some characters. It "only" took the Threeboot three years to get this far...

Waid's characterizations, such as they were, relied on the age-old saturday morning trick of making the character's power their personality trait. One of the biggest problems was the bland portrayal of Tasmia who had become more and more interesting over the years, and particularly during the DnA run where they added synethesia ("I smell light...") to her increasingly exotic look. Suddenly all that was gone and she was just a bland thug-ess.

I think Waid's and Kitson's reboot costumes were just bland. There were none that I'd like to see as a Graphitti T-shirt and that, to me, is a good measure of a good costume.
There are some artists who are great costume designers ... Cockrum was, by far, the best. Today, Mike McKone designs good costumes, as does Alex Ross. But, Barry Kitson has never been known for his dynamic costume designs. I thought the costumes were very boring and I loved Kitson's artwork on the title.
(However, I do think Kitson makes all his males look alike and all his females look alike, as well)
I am not a fan of Manapul's artwork, either, but it was a little more dynamic than Kitson's.

I'm wondering if this will be the perfect jumping off point for me. I could cut down the pull list by yet another title by not replacing this Legion series with any new one that comes along.

Plus I could just look into selling off the entirety of the Legion comics I've amassed over the years.

You say it, DonEMC. They all looked alike. I also like Kitsons art - though I thought he did MUCH better way back on L.E.G.I.O.N. - but it was impossible to say who was who without their costumes on. Though I don't like Manga, i really appreciate Manapuls style which is much mor edynamic than Kitson often static look...

Rich Jonhston is making news with nothing. Shooter has been contracted from the beginning to make 12 issues of Legion.

For my money, Shooter made the Legion interesting for the first time since 1992
