Issue #10 was one month late and #12 was two months late, judging by the cover dates found underneath the clock logo on each cover.

Well, at least they got rewarded with quality for their lateness. What is there today to wait for? All Star Batman and Robin? Feh. Kids today.

I love watchmen but all star batman and robin is great fun to me as well.

Though at least Moore and Gibbons weren't too busy making movies and video games to finish a damn book in the medium that made them. Kinda feels like a slap in the face from Miller and Lee. Though to be fair, Lee sounds like he's being run around by his bosses at DC.

this is true. I do wish they'd focus on ASBARTBW.

I'm still more excited about ASBAR than I am The Spirit movie or the DCUO video game.

The only thing that excites me about the spirit movie is the fact that Miller is directing movies because it gives me the inkling of a hope that he may one day direct a Batman or Daredevil film...which would the best frickin' thing ever.

I mean...if I was interested in the Spirit...I'd read spirit comics...why should I be interested in the character just cause there's a movie now?

Has Miller even done any spirit comics? I wouldn't even know where to start if I wanted to start reading Spirit.

I've been curious about Batman/Spirit just cause I want to read all of Loeb's Bat-work..but I suppose it's not impossible that the story could make me want to read more Spirit.

Dave Gibbons was finding it hard to keep up with the demands of Moore's script on a monthly basis, so a couple of issues were late. Issue 12 took ages to do because of the complexity of the first few pages apparently.
It wasn't an uncommon thing back then, Dark Knight Returns ran late with each issue & Crisis had a couple of issues running late.

Because Will Eisner was a bloody genius and although there's things which are dodgy in his stories, (I still cringe when reading a Spirit story with Ebony in it) the man helped create exciting accessable comics read by a wide audience, while keeping them of a high quality rarely seen in superhero comics today.

okay, i wasn't disputing that but if a character doesn't appeal to me, it doesn't appeal to me.

It's like me and sad/dramatic movies....i'm sure there are tons of great drama and tragedies out there...but I don't seek sadness out of my entertainment , I want a good time.

It's like meat loaf...your auntie em can make the best damn meatloaf around, but if I don't like meatloaf, I'm not interested.

also, I'm kind of making a statement about the comic industry's poor job of making it clear which Spirit trades(are there even trades? see my point?) are jumping on points.

Is there a showcase or essential volume? Is there a 15 dollar paperback I can pick up that'd be a great start?

You can never take the audience's familiarity for granted.

You can imply me for a philistine all you want (by the way, nice SN, I'm about as big of a Morrison/Invisibiles fan as they get) but it's not my fault that I don't know where to start with Spirit and that the character hasn't appealed to me. My lack of familiarity is not equivalent to me saying Eisner isn't talented, significant or whatever.

dude, stop being such a damn baby about it. If it doesn't appeal to you, then it doesn't appeal to you. So why would you want to bother with something that doesn't appeal to you? All you're doing is whining to the point where you're contradicting yourself.
