on wednesday the first part of an RIP tie in by Tomasi and drawn by Rags Morales starts off. based on solicits, Two-Face goes to New York and Dick has to help him out or something. also Bruce is gone, which makes Dick's job harder since he can't call in for help.
main thing I'm actually wondering is how it'll actually fit into the main RIP story, if it does at all since in Batman #678 we see that Dick is incapacitated

Since this arc ends in #150, I expect to see something major happen at the end.
If the rumors are true, and Dick ends up becoming Batman, and this book is retitled "Red Robin" starring Jason Todd (echh), I expect all this to transpire at the end of #150.
So this may be a key arc.

What happened in the issue?
Aside from a mention of the Black Glove, this issue had nothing to do with "R.I.P." Harvey Dent asks Dick to protect a former Gotham D.A. he used to know and was in love with. So Dick saves her a couple times, but is hurt the second time. To be continued.

I liked the nod to Face To Face. I'm glad they didn't abandoned the whole plot of Harvey knowing how to defend himself after being trained by Batman.

Is it mandated that happen every arc or something?

I thought the exchange between Dick & Harvey was perfect.

it sounds possible, they get rid of Nightwing and bring Jason Todd to his place. Like an editor wanted from the start.

I really appreciate the fact that this week's Nightwing and Robin, both great issues, individually acknowledged James Robinson's OYL arc 'Face the Face'. That one seemed to really shake things up at the time, but nothing's panned out until now.

Since when was Harvey a drooler?
Instead of Escrima sticks, wouldn't it make more sense for Nightwing to use Devil sticks (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Devil_sticks)?

Since when was Harvey a drooler?
I don't know if it's ever been used in the comics before, but TDK has Two-Face taking a drink and it all spills out the deformed half of his face.

I really liked this issue. Dick is such an important character to DC. I really hope they don't kill him as it's been rumored to happen for some time. They just need to find the right writer for him. Wally West became a much better character under Waid's first run of the Flash. I think Nightwing needs the same treatment.

I give this issue an A++. I was getting a little bored with Nightwing the last couple of issue. But this one was awesome.
Got some good Nightwing/Two-Face interaction and characterization. The story flowed quite nicely.
I was afraid it was about to get a bit redundant with Nightwing having to KEEP saving the girl but it didn't.
Don Kramer's art hasn't looked better.

Nightwing's "nightsymbol" looks a lot like the Azbat symbol.

Anyone else think the gunman might be Two-Face? One half might want to save the DA woman so he gets Nightwing to protect her, but his evil half wants her dead.

I just assumed that's what we were supposed to think. I mean, you only cover a sniper's face in shadow if it's a recognizable character and the reader isn't supposed to know who they are yet. And in this case, we see part of the right side of his face but none of the left. So yeah, I'm pretty sure that's what's going on.

Wow. Color me impressed. It took awhile, but Tomasi has finally gotten learned how to make something happen in a single issue with some drama and some suspense. To everyone who had planned on dropping this book after the last, slow arc, you shouldn't. This is what we've been waiting for.

Agreed; that makes Harvey much more formidable in the inevitable physical confrontations with Bats, Dick, etc. And I liked that followup bit, with Dick being unaware of Bruce training Harvey to be 'Gotham's guardian' post-IC.

I liked the nod to Face to Face, but don't understand why Dick didn't already know about Bruce's and Harvey's previous agreement.
Just like how I don't understand why Nightwing had to be told to go to Jason Blood over in Trinity.

I figured that Bruce thought Dick wouldn't agree with his decision to trust Harvey with Gotham during their OYL 'voyage around the world' thing, so he kept him out of the loop.

It takes place as at the same time as RIP, as Harvey makes a very clever insinuation to Batman and his technicolor outfit.

On which page / panel of NW 147 does Harvey say this? And when does this storyarc fit in with recent issues of both Batman & Detective?

I forgot to mention it before but there was a reference to The Long Halloween. I can't remember what it was, but when I get home I will check the issue again.

I don't have the issue in front of me, but it was when they first met on the roof and NW asked him if the he needs help in Gotham, why not ask Batman.

Personally, I'm going to assume that the whole Dick gets beat up and put into arkham stuff happened AFTER Batman goes crazy at the end of the same issue. and that this whole arc fits between then. Since Harvey mentioned Batman going all "technicolor"

And could help explain his presence in Gotham to get thrown into Arkham.

All four arcs, Robin aside, shows that he was in Gotham during the time of RIP. And Scorpiana could have gotten him anywhere, but then why would he end up in Arkham if he went crazy in New York.

That's not what happens in the main RIP storyline though is it? In that Nightwing gets drugged and ends up in Arkham and then Batman goes on his drugged journey and ends up in the Zur-En-Arrh technicolour Batsuit. There's nothing in Morrison's story to suggest this happens in an order contrary to how you read it is there?

Same reason they put Jean Loring there: a total lack of imagination.

I read it last night and thought it was okay. But so far it has about as much to do with RIP as Dini's Detective to date--i.e., not much at all.
A "red sky" issue.

So if NW 147 to 150 goes between pages XX and XX of Batman 678, then where does Detective 846 to 850 go?
Harding Prime
08-12-2008, 09:31 PM
I'm sure when all said and done this will be answered...
But then again...it is DC.
So far, the most they have to do with RIP, is that they are definitely during the same time, and they all mention The Black Glove. It's something to be said. I mean, would you rather go into Morrison's story and uck it up, like they did Res of Ra's?

Heart of Hush all happens before Batman #676, whether it happens before #675 remains to be seen

Who was the skydiver at the start of the Nightwing issue, and what did that have to do with anything?

At the very beginning. Who was that and what was that scene about?
That was Dick Grayson aka Nightwing... Skydiving is his new hobby... Unlucky for him he accidently ran ingto a swarm of bats on his way down when he interrupted by crude attempt to contact his alter ego....
