I was just wondering if there are any comics being published right now of a hero that is fairly new. I have realized that most comic heroes have first appeared a longggg time ago, or in the 80's or early 90's, but I don't know of any that first appeared in the 2000's. I'm not talking about new villains, new teams, or new members to an already created team, because that happens all the time. I'm talking about new solo heroes that have their own comic publication. Are there any? (I made a thread for this in the Marvel Universe section as well, so the words in this thread are exactly the same)

There is a newer Blue Beetle, who has his own title. I've heard that it is quite good as well. I've only picked up one issue though.

And that was for the appearance by Fire & Ice, but I did enjoy it.

I'm mostly a team book reader, but I have read and enjoyed all 3 of these...

Fallen Angel - Was published by DC, now it's being published by IDW.
Manhunter
Ex Machina - Wildstorm

Blue Beetle is EXCELLENT. Get everything you can on it.

Manhunter is good as well. I know alot of people who love it. I thinks it's good, but it's not on my pull list.

The Atom was okay. It was mostly good for people who like that really Weird Science type stuff. If you're into the show Eureka, you might want to get the trades.

I really liked The Question in the Crime Bible: Five Books of Blood mini. That had Batwoman in it too.

If you like the more dark and edgy stuff, Simon Dark may be your book too. It's basically a new take on Frankenstein.

AND... for the old take on Frankenstein, a new and different Guardian, Bulleteer, and Shining Knight, and Mister Miracle, along with good stuff from Zatanna and Klarion the Witchboy (as well as some explanation as to what the hell is happening in Final Crisis), then get Seven Soldiers by Morrison. The whole damn thing is in the trades now.

Orace as a new operative and villain in Birds of Prey along with Misfit and Black Alice both of who are fairly new.

Yeah, that Infinity chick. She seems like she may have potential. Misfit is the best too. Not too sure i like the direction that Alice is headed, though. I'll have to wai it out, but she was less vicious and more just annoyed by everyone before... like, I don't know, a bored teenage girl.

I'd definitely recommend Manhunter. New character, not a lot of history to deal with, and available in 4 trades so it's easy to catch up on. The series went on hiatus for a while but has just come back.

Manhunter & Blue Beetle are both consistently fantastic.

Keep an eye out for the Archies Comics heroes that will be introduced by JMS in Brave & the Bold.

I'd mention the Milestone characters too, but if DC chooses to keep these characters' previous histories intact - then they might not be new enough for you.

The Archies Comics heroes have been around for along time - but their stories appear to be starting completely from scratch when they begin showing up in the DCU.

New characters seem to have a near impossible chance of staying around long enough to get established, sales are hard to maintain.

The last new character i liked was the alternate universe Captain Atom who i think died somewhere in 52 (it all got a bit messy there) - Breach or something...

The Blue Beetle and Manhunter ongoings have been excellent. I would put those two books and characters at the top of my DC favorites list.

I'm not sure exactly when they first appeared but Savant and Creote from Birds of Prey were pretty good characters. I'm reading that in trade so not quite sure if the "were" or "are".

Peacemaker from Blue Beetle I believe is intended to be the old Charlton character but for the most part, he is pretty new from what I understand. He has been pretty darn interersting in the Beetle book.

The Reach as a group could be a very rich source of material. I know, my 3rd name from the Beetle book but what can I say? In Blue Beetle, they established a long history with the Lantern Corps. In Manhunter, they established a similar history with the Darkstars.

New characters don't seem to sell very well these days. Not even new characters with old names, which is mostly what DC tends to put out when they release a "new" character (ex. Blue Beetle, Atom, Question, Manhunter, Infinity, Inc., Freedom Fighters, etc.).
