Basically, which villain do you think could be explored psychologically to really establish them as a fresh and exciting Spiderman villain? I'm talking about old villains that have been used a lot that may need a new direction or spin on the character, or even older villains who have been ignored somewhat in the past, or have yet to have some defining story to make us completely understand where they're coming from.

I'm not really asking about BND characters because they're new characters anyway, and their exploration and directions have just started.

A few examples I can think of..

Mysterio (as it's a new guy behind the mask).
Shocker.
Hydro-Man.

I always thought that someone could do a definitive Lizard story.

Spider-Man 3 demonstrated that there's a lot of potential for the Sandman.

I've always wanted Jack O'Lantern to get a decent treatment, whether that means Macendale or someone new. I'll admit there's not a lot to work with but that's the point. I just happen to think there's something viscerally appealing about Lantern's look and I'd like to see a character built from that--it worked for the Goblin, right?

Mysterio and Sandman, 2 of my favorite Spidey's villains.

I was thinking about Mysterio. If I remember correctly, three Mysterios escaped from Midtown HS (where Peter Parker was teaching). There were lots of unanswered questions like, how is Quentin Beck still alive, and are the Mysterios working together and so on...

It's practically begging for someone to come up with a great story...

Venom (Brock). He never worked as a villain since his inception. A new mini-series is supposed to address that.
Hammerhead just got the rejuv treatment (confirming that the best period of SM history is ca ASM 110)

I have the perfect ideas that would flesh out Eddie Brock and Cletus Kassidy's characters.

White Rabbit could easily be molded into a scarily psychotic villain (similar to Joker), despite her past as a laughable joke. Out of all the Spider-Man villainesses, I think she would work the best in a psychological look.

Shocker's a cool character, in that he's a real blue-collar criminal. I've always seen many similarities between Herman and Peter and I loved to see a story that explored their parrallels.

I know a lot of people may surprised to here me say this, but I think there is a ton of potential in Freak. How far could he evolve? What about his mind? He's not a bad concept for villain, just give the guy a backstory and some personality. It can be done, Mirror Master is an excellent example of addict villain.

God, deliver me a kick-ass Mysterio epic.

I know it's waiting for Amazing, somewhere out there in the creative ether.
