How do you guys think the various characters of the DCU would react if the SHRA were passed into law?

I think the JSA (led by Earth-22 Superman) would be for it, while the big three of New Earth/Earth-1 (Batman, Superman, Wonder Woman) would be strongly opposed, as would the Titans, and the rest of the Bat Family. The Green Lanterns would comply with it, as it is an Earth law.

Where would people stand, d'you think?

Nope, the JSA disbanded in the '50s rather than reveal their identities to a Senate committee. Today, the JSA's mission is to maintain high standards for conduct by superheroes, and they actively seek out young heroes that can benefit from their guidance.

I have agree here. The JSA were burned once by the HUAC. No way any of the old timers would go for it. Most of the new generation like Cyclone, Stargirl, Jakeem Thunder, Citizen Steel, and wildcat jr would follow in their footsteps. The only person I see being in favor is Mr Terrific and maybe Lance Corporal Reid.

the big 3 would not go for it. Batman wouldn't rust anyone in a government position to see this through and not abuse it while Superman would be advocating a difference response maybe done by the JLA and not the US government.

I could see some Green Lantens like Hal, John, and Kilowog complying but someone liek Gardener would be against it and vocally so. Kyle might have objections but he might follow Hal's lead unless shown that the opposite way is better.

I could see Superman going for it to a point.

He'd be against giving up secret identities, but i'd think he'd be all for kids being trained to be better super heroes.

But if the Government ever started putting people away without legal process, and using murderers and psychopaths to round up heroes (like a certain little mister Stark) he'd put an end to it.

But the thing is the JSa, The JLA, the Titans, etc. They all have government charters and a certain amount of government funding. So they aren't true vigilante's.

In fact there aren't to many true vigilante's in the DCU. Non of the heroes take the law into their own hands, they turn criminals over to the proper authorities and what not

That's an excellent point. I completely forgot about what happened in the Golden Age. Nice catch, Shellhead.

I must contest, however, that I think that Earth-22 Superman would definitely be in favor of the SHRA or its DCU equivalent, because his world was destroyed by careless, untrained young heroes. Otherwise, I think you're correct in saying that the JSA would compare this to the HUAC hearings and defy it; the JLA would also not stand for it.

Sometimes, I wonder about Wally West; although, if you look at him back in The New Teen Titans #18, he defines himself as a midwestern conservative. I could see the Flashes (currently just Jay Garrick and Wally West) being divided over it. That could make an interesting story.

....no.

The JSA already serve that latter role - and I'm quite certain he trusts Jay, Alan and Co. infinitely more implicitly than any government official.

Harold, I wrote another post just know where you mentioned this. I didn't see that you had started another thread.

I can't see any heroes really siding with this as things are set up in the DCU. There's much more of a hierarchy within the hero community than in Marvel, and all the guys at the top would oppose. Batman, Superman, WW (she has a secret identity now, doesn't she?), Wally (he already experienced having his identity known, and begged Hal Spectre to change it), and a bunch of the other guys listed above. Of the guys that would go for it or wouldn't mind, like most of the GLs, I don't think any of them would go against their friends and teammates.

The DCU heroes just seem too big for something like the SHRA. Superman is a god-like being. Batman exists because Gotham would fall apart without him These things can't be legislated.
